[UC] Post traumatic childhood, NYT
In a winner take all society, impoverished children tend to live in traumatic conditions that do not end. It's not the lack of material widgets, but the stress and hopelessness of both parents and children which causes lifelong conditions. This is one of the most stressed societies which I've ever seen, and poor children have been suffering from PTSD for decades. (Many budgets about to be slashed will continue the downward spiral of society) Op-ed in the NYT by a BU psychiatrist: Untreated, traumatized children become failing adults who populate our jails and overwhelm our human services agencies. Cutting the development of effective treatments will produce many years of increasing costs and unquantifiable human misery. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/11/opinion/11kolk.html?_r=1 Dr. Gabor Mate is a leading expert on addiction and childhood psychiatry. Here is an old clip on Democracy Now for more on childhood stress. http://www.democracynow.org/2010/12/24/dr_gabor_mat_on_the_stress You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the list named UnivCity. [UC] Looking for St Francis de Sales little-girls' uniforms
Does anybody have one or more outgrown St Francis de Sales girl's uniforms they'd like to sell. We have enrolled Jasmine in SFDS kindergarten (for anybody facing the kindergarten choices, you may be interested that she was too far down on the Alexander School waiting list, got into the Powel school but we thought she'd get short shrift with the city's announced half-day kindergarten policy). She wears size 7 blouse and size 8 jumper uniform. I know that St Francis has a sale of donated used uniforms, but we're trying to get ahead of the game. And we'll pay you for them directly to help defray your costs of larger sizes. Please contact me off-list. Also, I'm not on the PFSNI list... if someone could forward this, I'd appreciate it. - Alan Krigman KRF Management, ICON/Information Concepts Inc 211 S 45th St, Philadelphia PA 19104-2918 215-349-6500, fax 215-349-6502 _krfapt@aol.com_ (mailto:krf...@aol.com)
[UC] Found: little grey kitten - 49th Hazel
Does anyone recognize this possibly lost kitten from around 49th Hazel? His finder, Nathen, would like to find someone who could provide foster care ASAP. Looks to be about 4 mos old, is un-neutered. I responded to his craigslist ad last night (since he said he was going to take it to Morris Refuge - told him not to!), and he wrote back:Linda-Here's a photo- not the best, but it shows him off pretty well. He's super sweet and probably the most cuddly kitten I've ever met. I cannot keep him for much longer, as he seems to be unfixed, and I have a special needs female cat who cannot be fixed. My apartment is too small to keep them separated for too long.Thanks. Nathan. jewurz...@gmail.comFound around 49th Hazel Tuesday night.
