[UC] Sentencing of confessed rapist/armed robber Kareem Drayton tomorrow at 1:30 pm. Please contact me if you want to attend.
Hello All, I apologize for the lateness in letting you know. I have been in touch with my other lists which have been more focused on this case, and on crime in general, and then realized that I hadn't let the larger community know. I decided not to send you all the detailed description of what happened last Friday in the courtroom when Kareem decided not to withdraw his guilty plea. It was very emotional and intense. I didn't want to bombard those of you who don't know about this case, or who weren't prepared to read such an account. If anyone wants that blow-by-blow, please contact me ( pbul...@gmail.com) and I will forward it to you. It was a surprising turn of events, as we were fully expecting him to go through with his expressed desire to withdraw his guilty plea and go to trial. He realized that 15 to 30 years plea bargain was a lot better than what he would be looking at if convicted of all the cases against him, and to which he confessed, if he went to trial instead. Suffice it to say that it has been a long year getting to this point. There are 5 victims from among us who we will be represented by us being in the courtroom, just by being present. We do not presume to know their thoughts or feelings at this point, but we will be a physical reminder to the court, to Kareem's family, and to him that there are real lives involved. Some of us have prepared statements that will be read to the court. I am working on one to represent 48th St Neighbors. These are called impact statements. Please let me know if you would like to be there - we are looking for those whose quiet presence will speak volumes, and we are looking to send a message to the victims that we stand with them. There are also those of us (myself included) who will be in prayer for Kareem as this sentencing is happening, and some who have sent messages to him about changing his life. Just to let you know that there will be a broad spectrum of who will be there. I expect that there will be a large (and emotional) contingent from his family which disagrees with him on this, and so that is why I am asking that only those with a steady and quiet determination come on behalf of the neighborhood. Once again, I apologize for any scheduling difficulties I may have created by not bringing this to your attention until today. If you really want to come and are not able to, please consider sending a statement to me. Let me know that you will so that I can tell the ADA. Yours, Patty

I open my packages with a chainsaw, so I'm not worried. Also, we had one taken within 15 min of being delivered on friday, so he is absolutely just following the delivery truck around and swiping them. -andy On Oct 17, 2012, at 7:03 AM, Robin Gresham-Chin r...@verizon.net wrote: I think it is important to mention that he has been seen to open packages with a knife. [UC] Unlicensed landlords and real estate tax delinquencies
In a message dated 10/17/2012 1:09:18 P.M. Roughly 70,000 LI active rental licenses have been matched up with their corresponding property records at the Office of Property Assessment. Interesting... good work. Note: * although there are lots of landlord delinquencies in West Philadelphia, there are almost none in University City, * The 70,000 active rental licenses represent slightly less than half of the rental properties in the city -- a factor I found in preparing a presentation for City Council this past spring by comparing LI's number with the most recent census data. Those of us who consider ourselves responsible rental housing providers (formerly known somewhat derogatorily as landlords) have made a strong case, which city officials have -- of course -- ignored, that the people operating without licenses tend to have the most housing code violations and to be otherwise the most irresponsible. This probably applies to tax delinquencies as well. The city is losing a lot of money by not making a serious effort to identify unlicensed rental properties, while also disregarding the health and safety problems my colleagues and I assert are rampant in this segment of the market. - Alan Krigman KRF Management, ICON/Information Concepts Inc 211 S 45th St, Philadelphia PA 19104-2918 215-349-6500, fax 215-349-6502 krf...@aol.com or al.krig...@krf.icodat.com
[UC] Re: Unlicensed landlords and real estate tax delinquencies
Thanks but again, it's not my work. And I think Philadelinquency's idea in creating this map is at the very least the city has no excuse not to go after fruit as low-hanging as this, which is not to say there aren't other things the city should absolutely also be doing in addition. [UC] cash for parks, drill baby drill
The bipartisan PA House Bill 2224 known as "cash for parks" passed 197-0. Now that the corporate candidates, Barak Romney and Mitt Obama screamed "drill baby drill" on corporate TV, the comprehensiveneoliberal plan for public spaces should smack you in the face. Fairmount park will be given to the real estate developers connected to the local democrats and state forests will be given to the fracking and timber corporations connected to the corporate PA republicans. That's what you wanted! Clark park, dilworth plaza, and the parkway will be corporate rental venues paid for by taxpayers, as demanded by the Wharton university and their whores at FOCP/UCD/CCD/SHCA.They will be called parks but will remaincorporate venues where the public has no rights. Most of the local gentry are too stupid to critically analyze the fake presidential debates or the disingenuous questioning which is designed to manipulate the American middle class. I've include links from Glenn Greenwalds's excellent analysis at the Guardian and an interview at Democracy Now for the thinking citizens. The few thinking citizens already understand the performances of the corporate candidates and their propaganda ministriesare a shamand mockery ofdemocracy. Drill baby drill, and the bipartisan Reagan revolution continues! American middle class, YOU ARE THE DESTROYERS OF THE PLANET. You are the Satan! It was not the ignorance or stupidity ofour local gentry or the American middle class thatgave us the fascist plutocracy that is hurtling us toward extinction. It was the lack of human values and the addiction to greed and glamorization of bullying by a shameful peoplethat led us to thisedgeofextinction. I guess you don't need to worry about the betrayal of future generations because they will never exist once the tar sands and drill baby drill are exploited. http://www.pennlive.com/editorials/index.ssf/2012/10/land_grab_pending_house_bill_c.html http://www.democracynow.org/2012/10/16/glenn_greenwald_presidential_debates_highlight_faux http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/oct/16/presidential-debate-issues Listen to the honest presidential candidates barred from the corporate performance on the expanded debate coverage: democracynow.org You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the list named "UnivCity."
