[Bug 445867] [NEW] brasero progress bar resets itself several times during burning
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero progress bar starts, goes to end, start again, goes to end and for good measure does it again. [Bug 410085] [NEW] should not read image file just for checksum
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero Recently I burned a DVD-R from an ISO image file. It was very slow. The reason: brasero reads the input ISO file twice, once for the checksum, then again for the actual burning. In my case the file was heavily fragmented and the performance was very poor (5 minutes to read the file instead of 1 minute when not fragmented). The fragmentation is a separate issue, but braseo could be optimized by reading the file only once. While burning, it could parallelly compute the checksum. Or if that is hard to implement: Do not use checksum at all, but compare the burned data to the input file. This way in case of verify error, the exact point(s)/sectors(s) of mismatch can be identified. Frankly, the current way of doing seems the wors possible (except if the checksum is remembered, but reading other bugs suggests that it is not). [Bug 399469] Re: must eject dvd after burning iso
Another not: I opened the brasero burn dialog again, and saw that the free space indication is wrong. It says 4.4GB free, but that can not be true. The inserted DVD has the image of the karmic-desktop-i386.iso on it, which is 700 MB big. So there is at most 4,5GB - 0,7 GB = 3,8 GB free on the DVD. Or 0 GB as I doubt it makes sense to append one iso image after an existing on on the DVD medium. It seems the cause of the problem is that the system still has out of date data about the medium, from before the burning. ** Attachment added: brasero burn over karmic DVD-wrong free space indication.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29133317/brasero%20burn%20over%20karmic%20DVD-wrong%20free%20space%20indication.png -- must eject dvd after burning iso https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/399469 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs -- universe-bugs mailing list universe-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/universe-bugs

[Bug 399469] Re: must eject dvd after burning iso
Hi! Here I did the same, but started with a DVD video on the media and overwrote it with Windows 7 CD. Opening the media in nautilus results in correct content displayed, except the label. It showed the label of the previous content (movie). ** Attachment added: the debug output http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29084913/brasero-debug.txt.gz -- must eject dvd after burning iso https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/399469 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs -- universe-bugs mailing list universe-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/universe-bugs
[Bug 300985] Re: when copying a DVD the speed multiple is reported as though it where a CD
Funny. I just burned an iso file to a DVD+RW and here it is the opposite: - duringg burn, the speed is reported as a multiple of DVD ( KiB/s 4.1x) - when finished, it uses CD units : 5544 KiB/s (32.2x) The iso file was karmic-desktop-i386.iso (alpha2). The DVD medium was a FUJIFILM 4x DVD+RW, containing Windows 7 RC x86 (UDF filesystem). -- when copying a DVD the speed multiple is reported as though it where a CD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/300985 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs -- universe-bugs mailing list universe-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/universe-bugs

[Bug 399466] [NEW] Creating image checksum message not informative anough
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero brasero 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 Ubuntu 9.04 I burned an ISO file to a DVD+RW. After burning there was a step labeled Creating image checksum. This is not very clear (unless you are an experienced brasero user). As I understand, it is reading back the disc content to verify the burn was without errors. The message should be changed to be more clear. Users care what is done (verification), not how it is done (by computing and comparing a checksum - I guess). ** Affects: brasero (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Creating image checksum message not informative anough https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/399466 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs -- universe-bugs mailing list universe-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/universe-bugs

Verifying CD/DVD seems an obvious choice. Or maybe Verifying recorded data correctness.
