[Bug 523380] Re: Change default backend/VCS back to Git

2010-02-18 Thread Thierry Carrez
It's all a matter of default values. There are two reasons why we'll keep bzr
as the default VCS backend for etckeeper:
- bzr is the default VCS for Ubuntu, used in Ubuntu DistributedDevelopment.
Etckeeper, as an Ubuntu main citizen, must integrate with preferred
distribution systems
- Long-term development for etckeeper in Ubuntu plans on extending the
etckeeper bzr plugin to support more complex operations involving the metadata
(allow to revert files to previous state, including permissions), so
bzr+etckeeper will end up given a more streamlined user experience than
git+etckeeper

Switching to git is just two commands away (etckeeper uninit / change
default / etckeeper init).

When/if etckeeper lands as an option in the installer one day, we should
definitely be able to preseed another VCS, so that etckeeper+git users
don't end up with a degraded user experience.

Re: My Mysql-Installation was corrupt after a Ruby-on-Rails-Instalation.
I lack details on what exactly happened here, but it looks like your install
was more corrupted than you originally thought. Looking at the logs it appears
you had MySQL 5.1 installed and try to downgrade to 5.0 ?

If you have no data to lose, I'd suggest purging the mysql packages

[Bug 418836] Re: MIR jetty6

2010-01-26 Thread Thierry Carrez
The jetty package in debian was finally updated to version 6, so that
makes the partial jetty6 package we introduced for eucalyptus in karmic
mostly redundant (and unsyncable). For lucid, I want to get rid of that
redundant package and use the generic jetty one instead.

I ported all Ubuntu improvements from the jetty6 package (enable build
tests, use default-jdk) to the jetty package in a recent upload, so
please consider the main promotion of the jetty package (so that i can
move the eucalyptus dependencies to jetty and ask for jetty6 removal).

Note that the scope of the jetty package is broader that the jetty6
one (it provides a standalone daemon in addition to the libraries).
However, only the core jetty library should end up as a binary in main.

Let me know if you need anything more.

[Bug 497390] Re: MIR for libproxool-java (and avalon-framework)

2009-12-18 Thread Thierry Carrez
OK, once I got past the funny implementation (testsuite doesn't use the
junit ant task), I realized that in a typical java fashion, the
testsuite brings a lot of new dependencies that are either in universe
or non-packaged yet, so I've disabled those tests (requiring missing
tyrex naming (?) and excalibur component manager libraries, +
hibernate/spring which are in universe).

Some other tests fail because the debian packaging does not repackage
the cglib classes inside the proxool JAR. I also disabled them.

What's left is working and passing tests, so I just uploaded a new
version that should satisfy your requirements.

 libproxool-java (0.9.1-2ubuntu4) lucid; urgency=low
 .
   * Enable test suite:
 * debian/ant.properties, debian/build.xml: Add ant rules to run tests
 * debian/control: Added missing build-depends necessary for tests
 * debian/rules: Enable tests, add missing JARs to classpath
 * debian/patches/cglib.diff: updated so that src/java-test is also patched
 * debian/patches/testsuite.diff: Disable some tests that require
non-packaged or universe dependencies, or fail due to CGLIB not being
   repackaged in the proxool jar.
   * debian/build.xml: Properly remove doc build directory on clean target

Uploaded, should satisfy your requirements now.

 * debian/control: build-depend on junit

[Bug 482986] Re: Tracks some unnecessary/autogenerated files

2009-12-14 Thread Thierry Carrez
I'm not exactly sure how much it is desirable to add files like this to
the ignore list by default. It's quite easy to edit the ignore file to
filter out the cruft that you don't want to track. In this precise case,
it's an artifact of CUPS that might make sense to track in certain
cases...

[Bug 496533] [NEW] [lucid] sudo bzr log /etc --short shows 'r...@$hostname' as author for every change

2009-12-14 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: etckeeper

Since etckeeper 0.39, all commits are bzr-committed with author set as
'r...@$hostname'. At the very minimum it should expand the $hostname to
the real hostname. But this change also prevents using bzr log --line
to get a quick overview of the changes, since --line (as --short) shows
the author (and not the committer):

$ sudo bzr log /etc --line
2: root r...@$host... 2009-12-14 Moo

[Bug 175689] Re: Share Folder in right-click menu does not share ntfs drive folders

@Martin: probably because you tell the system to mount it like that. I
suppose it's defined in a system-wide /etc/fstab and without any
specific option it will mount at boot-time as owner root (can't guess
you will want to use it as user foo). In all cases, that's a separate
issue.

[Bug 482417] Re: etckeeper automatically sets up bzr repo

2009-11-16 Thread Thierry Carrez
Setting a repository up at install-time is a feature of etckeeper
upstream (and a good one). There is a etckeeper uninit command to
reverse that default setup in case you want to pick a different VCS or
do anything. So you can run:

sudo etckeeper uninit
sudo vi /etc/etckeeper/etckeeper.conf (and change VCS)

[Bug 479614] Re: net usershare info takes too long (was: Nautilus hangs from time to time)

2009-11-12 Thread Thierry Carrez
Yes, like I said in comment 9, net usershare list is very local, so it
shouldn't really need to resolve names. I suspect some TCP connections
against the local system hostname that would trigger a simple resolution
(that may fail on faulty setups). If that doesn't prove right, next step
is looking in the code itself to understand :)

[Bug 454164] Re: likewise-open5-eventlog doesn't properly install

2009-10-27 Thread Thierry Carrez
I have that file alright. My guess is that you removed manually the file and
confused the conffile handling at one point. Then purging likewise-open5
doesn't clean up since the file is installed by likewise-open5-eventlog.
Please try sudo apt-get purge likewise-open5-eventlog and sudo apt-get

Can't reproduce on a (jaunty with likewise-open5) - karmic upgrade.
I suspect that since you don't need likewise-open5 you disabled it somehow,
that broke the upgrade (which tries to stop the daemons before upgrading), then
further efforts to fix it left the package in an inconsistent state.

[Bug 410379] Re: Tomcat security configuration error prevents proper logging when used with Sun's JVM

2009-10-14 Thread Thierry Carrez
To Joshua: The only (meaningful for this bug) difference running
apache.org tomcat instead of the Ubuntu packages is that you don't get a
security manager enabled by default, so you don't hit this bug and you
don't have to care about configuring policy files. If you don't care
about running with a security manager, I'd recommend running the Ubuntu
package with TOMCAT5_SECURITY=no, you would get the same effect.

This bug is not about Ubuntu's tomcat packages, but rather with a recent
change in Sun's JVM that make some changes in policy files required if
you want to run with a security manager and Sun's JVM. This bug would
hit both the apache.org prebuilt code and ours.

2009-10-12 Thread Thierry Carrez
On a fresh install, no OpenVPN configuration is installed, so at boot
OpenVPN would return

 * Starting virtual private network daemon(s)...
 *   No VPN is running.

Obviously, on upgrade from jaunty, if you have configurations defined in
/etc/openvpn, those would get started.

Could you give more information on the contents of /etc/openvpn on your
failing fresh beta install and on the working upgrade from jaunty ?

[Bug 50385] Re: samba does not support private dir option (qemu related)

2009-10-12 Thread Thierry Carrez
samba uses two directories:
 * private-dir (/etc/samba/private by default) to hold various secret tdbs
 * state-dir (/var/lib/samba by default)
fhs-filespaths.patch ensures that for passdb.tdb, secrets.tdb and
schannel_store.tdb, we use state-dir instead of private-dir.

qemu overrides private-dir, but not state-dir.

One fix for this bug would be to set private-dir=/var/lib/samba and drop
the patch, that would allow qemu to happily override it. The potential
regression is about all the other files that use private-dir directly.
The only one I could find in code is idmap2.tdb (code in
winbindd/idmap_tdb2.c). That one could probably live in /var/lib/samba
as well, though it could cause upgrade headaches.

Can't reproduce... although on karmic the boot message is much less
informative, it still seems to start VPN configs alright. Please include
/var/log/syslog for more information.

[Bug 445695] Re: redirect-gateway does not work

2009-10-12 Thread Thierry Carrez
From upstream changelog:

2009.10.01 -- Version 2.1_rc20

* Fixed a bug introduced in 2.1_rc17 (svn r4436) where using the
redirect-gateway option by itself, without any extra parameters,
would cause the option to be ignored.

[Bug 439868] Re: UEC images could be smaller

2009-10-09 Thread Thierry Carrez
The official branch is at lp:uec-tools
https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/uec-tools/ubuntu

Can it handle the new default .img.tar.gz format ? At first look it
seems it handles only .img or .img.gz...

[Bug 439868] Re: UEC images could be smaller

2009-10-09 Thread Thierry Carrez
Sure, there is no point in having .img.gz support while we don't ship anything
under that format anymore.
About img.tar.gz support: having it inside the script would just avoid having
to discover the magic -S tar option.

[Bug 439868] Re: UEC images could be smaller

2009-10-08 Thread Thierry Carrez
Hm, I'm slightly concerned about the need for root rights in that
script, as it basically forces the cloud customer that wants to bundle
a UEC image to use a client system on which he has root rights (while he
could use any system before). Please post your new script to the ubuntu-
devel resize-image thread. Maybe someone creative will come up with a
solution that allows to expand the fs in a reliable way without making
the whole process dependent on you having root rights.

Forget that, this is a duplicate of bug 231060. There is support in
dnsmasq for properly collaborating with libvirt. I'm not exactly sure if
that was fixed in 9.04 libvirt or not.
