[Bug 448738] [NEW] Please sync libbsd-arc4random-perl 1.41-1 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2009-10-11 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libbsd-arc4random-perl

As discussed in IRC: karmic has 1.3 which FTBFS due to a change in the
more recent libbsd versions (which it links against), 1.41 works. It builds
from unmodified Debian sources just fine.

I’ve tested this in a karmic chroot a-g d-u’d just now, even with an
application actually using this Perl module.

[Bug 446132] Re: Please merge mksh 39.1-3 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2009-10-10 Thread Thorsten Glaser
@fabrice_sp: thanks (you didn’t necessarily have to change the maintainer
though,
at least nobody did that for the last two uploads).

Sadly, #381332 re-appeared, will prepare a fix right now (or rather, integrate
the
old fix for that bug).

2009-10-10 Thread Thorsten Glaser
This one reappeared in mksh, because I seem to have lost this particular
diff:

• https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mksh/39.1-3ubuntu1/+build/1285076

Here’s a fix:

Changes:

 .
   * Exclude dietlibc on powerpc/ppc64 and sparc (LP: #381332)

[Bug 446132] Re: Please merge mksh 39.1-3 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2009-10-09 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Yes, it is an upgrade of the shell which fixes a couple of bugs also (as I am
both upstream
and Debian Maintainer, I try to fix things upstream whenever possible), plus a
number of
backports from mksh-current (will become R40, but that one will introduce some
differences
in the scripting language and isn’t ready yer, whereas R38c→R39 should not
break any
existing scripts).

[Bug 446132] [NEW] Please merge mksh 39.1-3 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2009-10-08 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mksh

Binary package hint: mksh

The new version contains a *iot* of important bugfixes and has even entered
testing after 5 instead of the regular 10 days. The old Ubuntu specific patches
(one to disable debconf, as we cannot change /bin/sh away from dash, the
other to work around a gcc bug in jaunty and karmic) are still necessary.

I have tested it in a karmic chroot freshly a-g d-u’d today (otherwise
not used).

I would kindly request this upload be sponsored (I am both mksh upstream author
and Debian package maintainer, and also had the last 2 uploads of mksh
sponsored,
see LP#375604 and LP#385887). Debdiff attached as usual.

mksh (39.1-3ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * debian/mksh.postinst: hardcode debconf question if mksh should
be installed as /bin/sh to false (see LP: #348872) but retain
debconf infrastructure so that, if this was set to true in old
installations, it will correctly be removed on upgrade
  * debian/rules: remove “-combine” option from Build.sh invocation
to work around a gcc bug (see LP: #375604)

 -- Thorsten Glaser t...@mirbsd.de Thu, 08 Oct 2009 08:23:59 +

mksh (39.1-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Add support for using pax instead of cpio for extraction
  * Backport fix for return code bug (Closes: #548744)

 -- Thorsten Glaser t...@mirbsd.de Tue, 29 Sep 2009 12:46:07 +

mksh (39.1-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/rules: build mksh-small without floating point support
also, because it’s ⓐ huge and ⓑ buggy in dietlibc
  * debian/diffs/backport-function-parens.diff: new, support the
function stop () { bashism sometimes popular in sh scripts
  * debian/diffs/zz-version.diff: fix an oversight and use the
actual 39.1-* version number instead of 38.9.mmdd-* from
when this patch was first being created in an experimental
version; refresh diff against original files; use -U1 instead
of -up for sh.h diff to not get fuzz at the RCS ID

 -- Thorsten Glaser t...@mirbsd.de Sat, 26 Sep 2009 21:18:54 +

mksh (39.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream version R39 (despite #540512, I got fed up waiting for
Guillem/Gerrit to contact me), Closes: #541617; complete ChangeLog:
- [tg] Shut up a bogus gcc warning during configuration process
- [tg] Spell ATT consistently in the source code
- [tg] Tweak mksh(1) manual page, from wbx@ and «lewellyn:#ksh»
- [tg] dot.mkshrc: fix $@ vs. $* mix-up
- [tg] dot.mkshrc: add DJB cdb hash function
- [tg] Sync with oksh: fix Vi editing mode word erase handling, again
- [tg] Skip whitespace between POSIX style shell function name and
its definition parenthesēs during detection if an alias of the same
name already exists to be more robust (Debian Closes: #535970)
- [tg] Build system improvements for ACK and nwcc, both on Debian sid
- [tg] Fix spelling error in changelog discovered by Lintian
- [tg] Aligh “set -o nounset” / “set -u” behaviour with future POSIX
standard, as discussed with GNU bash maintainers, David Korn from
  ATT ksh93, and The Open Group; prompted by use in Debian;
  Closes: #539538
- [tg] add an unsupported way to make printf(1) a builtin
- [tg] Build system and regression test code and comment improvements:
better and more comments matching reality better; more reliability
w.r.t. passed CPPFLAGS; more of the MKSH_SMALL changes may be
overridden, all of them are now enumerated on the webpage; fixed
  some breakage; portability
- [tg] MKSH_NOPWNAM and MKSH_SMALL will now both disable the ~fac/
(homedir) expansion code wholly if defined, not just getpwnam(3)
  calls
- [tg] shells without job control no longer define the standard
  “stop” and “suspend” aliases (they are pointless anyway);
  regression tests know
- [tg] use system RCS ID macros on MirBSD if decent enough
- [tg] shut up bogus gcc 4.5/trunk warnings caused by
  over-optimisation
- [tg] restore ANSI C compilability broken in R38 (speed up, even)
- [tg] use memcpy(3) ipv strlcpy(3) if possible and safe and secure
  * Integrate czech translation update, Dêkuji; Closes: #534788
  * Switch to debhelper 5, by suggestion of Patrick “aptituz” Schönfeld
  * Add (commented out) framework for building with klibc, pending
bugfixes and enhancements I submitted to the Debian BTS; can be
customised for with/without MKSH_SMALL and dynamic/static linkage
  * debian/copyright: remove setmode.c remark, it is never used:
mksh-full has it provided by libbsd; mksh-diet, mksh-small, and
mksh-klibc have the mknod builtin disabled and do not need it;
strlcpy.c is provided by libbsd, dietlibc and klibc, so neither
mksh-full nor mksh-diet (nor mksh-klibc) need it, only mksh-small
in the glibc version (on platforms where dietlibc is unavailable)
  * debian/rules: Append -e to sub-make command

[Bug 429274] [NEW] SSL certificate validation broken

2009-09-14 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu Hardy, firefox 3.0.14 (today’s update)

You need to have CAcert.org’s Root CA Certificate imported for this.

https://msoent.blog.tarent.de/

Konqueror → works
Firefox → ssl_error_bad_cert_domain

The certificate itself has:
CN: *.blog.tarent.de
X.509v3 subjectAltName: DNS:blog.tarent.de

Apparently, nss only “sees” the subjectAltName? This works with Konqueror (as
stated),
Lynx. Interestingly, Opera 10 seems to have similar issues.

Yeah, the mksh part is already “fixed” (workaround: mksh doesn’t use dietlibc
any more
on architectures where the latter is known to break). I couldn't unsubscribe
the sponsors,
but there was already a newer version of mksh uploaded with more fixes.

[Bug 385887] [NEW] Please sync mksh 38.3-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2009-06-11 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mksh

There is a new upstream version in Debian which fixes some of the things
addressed
in my last debdiff (LP #381332) and a few more ways to crash mksh, that’s why I
am
proposing an update to the latest sid version.

The attached debdiff contains the patches still necessary on Ubuntu
Karmic:

• dietlibc produces unusable binaries on powerpc and sparc ⇒ skip it
there

• mksh should not be installed as /bin/sh on Ubuntu due to bugs in the init
scripts
(dashisms probably; should be reviewed for Karmic though, unless it’s Ubuntu
policy that only dash be allowed /bin/sh, in which case debconf dash/sh should

[Bug 381332] Re: mksh-38.1-1ubuntu1 (powerpc, sparc) FTBFS (dietlibc breakage)

2009-06-01 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Please sync mksh 38.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).
The attached debdiff against the Debian sid version brings the pak-
kage up to date. It fixes the FTBFS on powerpc and sparc (hopeful-
ly) and a memory corruption bug from upstream.

Changelog since current karmic version 38.1-1ubuntu1:

mksh (38.2-1ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining Ubuntu changes:
- disable debconf mksh/sh
- do not use -combine for build
  * Apply patch from upstream CVS:
debian/rules: use DEB_BUILD_ARCH, not DEB_HOST_ARCH, to determine
if dietlibc should be excluded on certain architectures where it
is known to fail
  * Exclude dietlibc on powerpc and sparc (LP: #381332)

 -- Thorsten Glaser t...@mirbsd.de Mon, 01 Jun 2009 10:06:19 +

mksh (38.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/rules: fix typo in buildd admin instructions for openpty()
  * New upstream version R38b; complete ChangeLog:
- [André Wösten] Add __NO_EXT_QNX to avoid picking up the wrong
waitfor() from libutil.h in (while porting to) QNX 6.4
- [tg] Plug memory corruption issue introduced in R38
- [tg] Amend dot.mkshrc with a base64 en-/decoder in shell
- [tg] Import a manpage fix via OpenBSD from Alan R. S. Bueno

[Bug 382360] [NEW] dietlibc not available on lpia

2009-06-01 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dietlibc

There is no dietlibc on lpia, which I understand is the same machine
architecture as i386 but optimised for low power consumption.

It should be possible to fool dietlibc into thinking lpia==i386, or even
use the i386 binary package on lpia.

The mksh package comes with /bin/mksh-static, which is linked against
dietlibc if available and would benefit from that.

[Bug 381215] undefined reference to `__builtin_stdarg_start'

2009-05-30 Thread Thorsten Glaser
From discussion with Fefe:

revision 1.12
date: 2008-11-26 18:43:06 +; author: leitner; state: Exp; lines: +1 -1
add %Z to strptime, make stdarg work with gcc 4.4

I told him though that __builtin_stdarg_start is needed for
supporting gcc2 and older gcc3 versions. Anyway, this is fixed
upstream (and Fefe sounded surprised that Debian did not package
the CVS development versions of diet libc but releases).

[Bug 375604] Re: Sync mksh 37.3-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2009-05-28 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Yep, I already discovered and fixed it, this is a bug in dietlibc, filed as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dietlibc/+bug/381215
but I haven’t yet gotten around to replying again to this bug report
because, although I could take the time (I’m at work right now) to
make me a karmic chroot and test it, out of a sudden I had several
requests to work on.

If you take the patch from LP: #381215 and install the fixed dietlibc
.deb files, mksh with the debdiff already applied here will build fine.

I’d add a “blocked by #381215” to this bugreport, but haven’t found
out how to do so in Launchpad yet ☺

[Bug 375604] Re: Sync mksh 37.3-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2009-05-26 Thread Thorsten Glaser
This is actually a compiler bug fixed in gcc-snapshot:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-defaults/+bug/352475

I suppose with this and https://bugs.launchpad.net/dash/+bug/348872
it doesn’t make sense to drop the -ubuntu1 delta altogether.

The debconf stuff should be removed unless karmic fixes the issues
when running with mksh as /bin/sh I had on my hardy PC at work,
and the 「-combine」 option to mksh/Build.sh uses the gcc options
「-fwhole-program --combine」 which trigger the aforementioned
bug in certain versions of gcc.

Is it desirable if I make a package for karmic based on the Debian
sid one, test it in a chroot, and submit it (where/how)?

[Bug 348872] [NEW] please remove debconf stuff from mksh in MOTU

2009-03-26 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mksh

mksh provides debconf to be run as /bin/sh which works fine in Debian. My Hardy
system at work
however fails to boot with it, because at least the checkroot.sh from
initscripts does invalid assump-
tions about the shell:

on_ac_power /dev/null 21
if [ $? -eq 1 ]
then
log_warning_msg On battery power, so skipping file
system check.
rootcheck=no
fi

⇒ fails because this stuff seems to be run with “set -e”, even though I cannot
find where it
is enabled.

Anyway, the safest course is probably to remove all the debconf stuff and the
po-debconf
dependency. I’ve done so in my experimental repository:

https://www.freewrt.org/~tg/debs/dists/hardy/wtf/pkgs/mksh/ contains my current
“experimental
packaging”; if you take it over, you will want to remove
debian/diffs/dot.mkshrc.diff which is not
intended for DEB upstream but only for my wtf repo. Also, get mksh-current from
AnonCVS, as
it’s currently in Release Candidate state for R37, and I had a bugfix yesterday.

Otherwise, at least rid the debconf stuff.

I don’t know if the initscripts bug still exists in intrepid/jaunty/koala, or
if it’s worth reporting it,
but unless someone really uses it, I guess they merely have the possibility to
hurt, despite
mksh as /bin/sh on Debian being fine.
