[Bug 182927] Re: Update FreeMind to 0.9.0 RC6

2009-12-31 Thread Benjamin Drung
I unsubscribed ubuntu-universe-sponsors and marked it as invalid. Here
my reason: The bug report is very long. As sponsor it needs a long time
to read through it. To get an updated package two steps are needed.

1. The package from Eric should be uploaded to Debian. I pinged my
Debian sponsor. So maybe he will upload it sooner.

2. The Debian package needs to be synced or merged to Ubuntu. Please
open a new bug report for that once the package enters Debian.

[Bug 182927] Re: Update FreeMind to 0.9.0 RC6

2009-12-22 Thread Eric L.
@Evan: the package is not _yet_ in Debian because I'm the maintainer but no
Debian Developer (DD) and my sponsor seems to be a bit under water (he already
accepted the package, and promised to take care of it, but it seems to take a
bit more time than usual).
I can understand that someone is busy just before Christmas, so I'll ping him
again at the beginning of next year.

BTW, I already wrote it, I think, but if someone sees changes I should
do to my package to make it more Ubuntu like without breaking the Debian
rules/policy, I'd be happy to do it.

[Bug 182927] Re: Update FreeMind to 0.9.0 RC6

2009-12-21 Thread Evan Broder
I don't see any action for ubuntu-universe-sponsors to take. Is there a
particular version of the package that should be uploaded? I see the
packages at http://eric.lavar.de/comp/linux/debian/, but it doesn't
sound like they've been specifically built for Lucid. They should be
built on Lucid, ideally in a PPA, before uploading to Ubuntu proper.

Please subscribe u-u-s when there's a specific action for them.

[Bug 182927] Re: Update FreeMind to 0.9.0 RC6

2009-12-21 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Evan, what a lame comment!

People have been posting left and right that they rebuilt the packages
in their PPA or elsewhere. If there is no immediately obvious candidate
at the moment that is only because sponsorship has been dragging on so
long without anything ever happening. I'm currently rebuilding RC6 in
my PPA (something which I think can be reasonably expected of a sponsorr
to do himself, too), please take a look in a few hours. If you didn't
feel like doing that you could have searched through the PPAs with
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas?name_filter=freemind and you would
have immediately stumbled across Igor Gomes' PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~igorgomes/+archive/ppa/+packages) which already
has an appropriate package it seems. And if even that would have been
too much to ask from a sponsor, then I think a normal comment of what
is the status quo, what is there to do? would have gotten a quick
response, I'm sure.

The single-minded pursuit of get it off my radar instead of actually
fixing issues and improving Ubuntu isn't helping anyone. In that sense,
I kindly ask for a little more effort next time from you, Evan, to make
sure you are actually deserving of your newly acquired sponsor powers.
Thank you for your contribution.

Resubscribed sponsors.

BTW, the Ubuntu package used to have a delta towards Debian. I don't
have time to look through it right now, but I'd appreciate if one of the
many people interested in this package were to take a quick glance to
make sure there is nothing in there that is still relevant for RC6.

[Bug 182927] Re: Update FreeMind to 0.9.0 RC6

2009-12-21 Thread Evan Broder
Wow, dude. Chill out. I realize the get it off my radar may be
annoying for the bug that I'm taking off my radar, but that's not the
point. I spent 15 minutes looking at this bug, reading through the
comments, and trying to figure out why u-u-s had been subscribed. When I
leave u-u-s subscribed, I make any other sponsor looking at the queue go
through the same process. It makes it harder for anybody to do
sponsorship.

And I /did/ go look through PPAs. I found that none of the versions in
PPAs were ready to be uploaded. Igor had the most recent release, but it
completely dropped the old changelog, which is why I assumed I was
missing the version that was ready to be uploaded.

So once again, I'm unsubscribing ubuntu-universe-sponsors until there's
a package ready for sponsorship.

[Bug 182927] Re: Update FreeMind to 0.9.0 RC6

2009-12-21 Thread Evan Broder
Oh, sorry Rolf - I didn't see the mention that you were uploading the
new RC6. I'm taking a look at that now.

Uh, first off, since this is a merge, not a sync, you should leave the
old Ubuntu-specific changelog entries in the changelog, interleaved with
the Debian changelog. (i.e. in sorted order).

I'm assuming you took this package from
http://eric.lavar.de/comp/linux/debian/, since it's not in Debian? Do
you know why this package hasn't been uploaded to Debian, since this guy
appears to be the maintainer?

If we're pulling from somewhere that's not Debian, the package should
have a -0ubuntu1 version number, I think, which would also mean that
XSBC-Original-Maintainer should be set.

I'm not entirely sure how pulling a package with its own history from
not-Debian works, though. I'll go ahead and re-sub u-u-s in the hopes
that somebody else has a better idea.

Sponsors: Look at the package in
https://launchpad.net/~r0lf/+archive/ppa/+packages

[Bug 182927] Re: Update FreeMind to 0.9.0 RC6

2009-12-05 Thread Tom Clift
@Eric L.:

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 x64. I had the same problem as Radek (#38) when using
the repository:
  deb http://eric.lavar.de/comp/linux/debian/ experimental/
When I added the repository:
  deb http://eric.lavar.de/comp/linux/debian/ ubuntu/
and updated to freemind-0.9.0~rc6+dfsg-1ubuntu0, the problem went away and
FreeMind seems to be running fine.

I also the same .mm files Troff association as Tim (#37). Running:
  sudo update-mime-database /usr/share/mime
created the mapping for me. The .mm files now identify as FreeMind Map,
and double clicking from Nautilus opens the file successfully in FreeMind.

Thanks for your work. There are no more outstanding issues for me with
your FreeMind 0.9.0 RC6 package using the above setup and changes.

[Bug 182927] Re: Update FreeMind to 0.9.0 RC6

2009-11-15 Thread Eric L.
@Radek: thanks for the feedback.

Here for the resolution:

The problem was with libjibx-java being version 1.1.x under Ubuntu J, K
L (instead of 1.0.x under Debian, and former versions of Ubuntu). For
these distributions, please use the repository:

deb http://eric.lavar.de/comp/linux/debian/ ubuntu/

I didn't test explicitly with Ubuntu, but it should work... As always,
let me know if not.

Side note: I don't have a key for my repositories, it's mostly a reason
of lazyness, if someone shows me a simple HOWTO, I'll do my best to fix
this... :-^

@Tim: regarding integration within Gnome, do you see an improvement
after having called sudo update-mime-database /usr/share/mime, after
installation of the current packages?

Eric L., I tried to upgrade on Karmic 64bit, and also 32bit, firstly I need to
change the source row to:
deb http://eric.lavar.de/comp/linux/debian/ experimental/
otherwise (without slash at the end) it was not accepted.

I tried to find the key I can import for your repository, do you have
same?

program itself refuses to start it writes:
The pattern file format has changed and it seems, that your pattern file
'/home/../.freemind/patters.xml' is formated in the old way. Should I try to
repair the pattern file.?
with 'yes' and 'no' options.
The file does not exists when this dialog is displayed. Ragardles what I choose
I get 2nd dialog with Mode not available: MindMap with OK, and then 3rd dialog
with freemind.main.FreeMind can't be started.
after that file '/home/../.freemind/patters.xml' is created and has the same
content as /etc/freemind/patterns.xml.

I also tried to purge the package and reinstall without help.
my default lang is LANG=cs_CZ.UTF-8, but attached log is grabbed with LANG=C

Hello,

FreeMind 0.9.0_RC6 has been (properly) packaged and can be pulled from:

deb http://eric.lavar.de/comp/linux/debian/ experimental

(see the Freemind wiki [1] for more details)

Let me know how it works, the package has only been tested on
Debian/sid, I'm interested in your experience with Ubuntu and if you
find stuff that makes the package not fit for Ubuntu.

Cheers, Eric

PS: I hope to get this version of FreeMind officially into Debian. Cross
fingers!

[Bug 182927] Re: Update FreeMind to 0.9.0 RC6

2009-11-10 Thread TimMadden
Eric L., I have been using your repo on my ubuntu installs for some time
now. I find that it generally works great with generally comparable
performance to the Windows version. A couple of areas where it could be
improved is in the application menu (Karmic w Gnome 2.28.1) it does not
have an icon nor do the *.mm data files. Also Gnome seems to think the
*.mm files are Troff MM input documents (whatever those are). I have
tried monkeying with the Gnome file associations to fix it, but I
couldn't get it to work in the attempt I made a month or so ago...

Anyhow, thanks for providing the repo and good look getting it in
Debian! That would be huge as it would certainly smooth the way into
Ubuntu I would think.

Just letting people know that I've found packages for Freemind in the
following PPAs:

https://edge.launchpad.net/~khashayar/+archive/builder/+packages (latest is
0.9.0-rc4)
https://edge.launchpad.net/~igorgomes/+archive/ppa/+packages (latest is
0.9.0-rc6)
https://edge.launchpad.net/~liamgh/+archive/ppa/+packages (latest is 0.8.1)

Some of the owners of these PPAs are actually subscribed to this list...

I've love to help packaging this application, but I haven't heard a
reply from the motu-mentor list.

[Bug 182927] Re: Update FreeMind to 0.9.0 RC6

2009-11-09 Thread Igor Gomes

I've tried the approval, but the requirements are a huge barrier. There are
many jars inside the original Freemind and they need to be packaged
separately. This is too hard because demands research, guessing etc...

The latest version is on my ppa. Fell free to use it.

Best,

Igor Gomes
