Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 2.00

2017-08-02 Thread willywonka

I've recently discovered picoreplayer & love it. Many thanks to the team
for this fantastic distro. :D

I've had great success but noticed an issue when setting up a new board
today - if I use a space in my wifi SSID in newconfig.cfg, the pi (zero
W) will not connect. Watching the console shows the following:

> ERROR FOR WIRELESS REQUEST "SET ESSID" (8B1A) :
> TOO FEW ARGUMENTS.

I made sure newconfig.cfg was encoded with unix line endings & also
attempted to configure the wireless SSID using the console 'setup'
utility (on a fresh image), but received the same error on reboot.

In the end, I configured a wireless SSID on my network without a space &
the pi connected first go. I then reconfigured via the web interface to
the correct SSID and everything works.

I was also curious to learn more about the audio patches in the audio
optimized kernel, is it the suggested build now?

So at least in a quick short test the wifi stick has much more bandwidth
than even the hard wired connection..I have seen similar results
with using a hardwired USB Gigiabit adapter. This was with no other
activity on the USB ports. Remember on a rpi3, all network (even
hardwared) uses the onboard USB chipset.

As expected that will be the size of the initial fill of the player
buffer.

The problem is not LMS per-se as there is no difference in code
executred by max2play and pcp - the differences must be elsewhere.

Are the LMS settings different between max2play and pcp ?
Network issues are still possible if for example drivers are different -
have you checked whether the same drivers are being used for max2play
and pcp ?

I have 3 pCP Pi's in a sync group. I get a bit of drift but no drop
outs. 2 of the Pi's have HAT DACs and the thirdhas a Touchscreen and USB
DAC.
I did try the third Pi as an LMS server but it was iffy. I put it down
to the LAN on that Pi being affected by the USB DAC. The LAN and USB
still share the same bus on a Pi3. It is after all hardware that costs
2/6 (who remembers that ?).
I moved LMS to a dedicated pCP Pi3 and all is well. Almost. I do a lot
of remote streaming via VPN but even after I realised I had to install
lame I still get issues when I am streaming remotely. Tracks finishing a
few sounds early and starting a few seconds in that sort of thing.

A tip for you.
I am assuming you use Windows.
Try Greenshot - open source - as an alternative screen grabbing tool. It
is much better than Snipping Tool or plain old print screen. When you
try it make sure you change "destination" in options or prefs to be the
Image Editor. You will find that it has very powerful annotation tools
for things like hiding passwords and drawing boxes and arrows.
As always only download from the developers site and scan for viruses.

For now I've set up LMS server separately on my RPi2, didn't have too
much time to test but it works fine for now (all players wireless, LMS
also wireless). We'll see how it goes, I don't mind dedicating one
device for LMS (seems like a waste of resources but if it saves my time
on debugging - I'm fine with it).

I'll let you know the result after using this setup for week or more.

Thanks for the suggestion Ralphy! ...but no go. I was previously running
7.7 of LMS due to bugs I had experienced in more recent community
versions, but just updated to 7.91 to see if would help with this issue.
Unfortunately setting player to Do Not Defeat (or any other destructive
Touch-To-Play setting) did not make any difference; I tested settings by
changing another item on the player page - Play Other Songs in Album -
and yes, the PiCorePlayer responded to the change.

It seems to me that the problem is related to the selected song holding
touch focus during and after the confirmation "Song Added" dialogue box
appears, so that a subsequent touch on the Now Playing button, while
detected, does not refocus the touched area on the Now Playing button -
but instead is interpreted as if the song selection was touched again.
What also makes it fairly obvious this is occurring is when selecting
the Now Playing button in the sequence described, the -song selection
momentarily highlights -as if touched.

I wonder why defeating destructive touch does not seem to be working?
While it wouldn't fix the bug, it would at least keep my playlist
intact.

If it's working why worry any further. It could have been something as
simple as a dodgy Ethernet cable which you have inadvertently fixed by
swapping things around. It did sound like a networking issue.
The first rule of networking is "check the cables".
The second rule is also "check the cables"
You'd be surprised how many times a loose cable has been the cause of a
problem in my experience.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] PiCorePlayer - As a LMS server (See how-to here - work in progress)???

2017-08-02 Thread d6jg

Please take this as constructive criticism
3. How do you find the IP address? There are lots of ways. Many that
don't require a monitor.
4. For a Server it should always be a static (or reserved) IP and it
should always be wired. Ok it will work with a dhcp address and
sometimes it will work wirelessly but neither is advised or indeed good
practise.
9. Possible fix. Mounting a NAS folder (Linux) requires exactly the
right syntax e.g Music is not the same as music in Linux terms.

Thank you Ralph for you efforts !
I'll try the mp4v2 thing.

Also to be completely honest, these two files where converted from flac

Pascal Hibon wrote:

Upon further investigations, I found that those 2 files don't have all
their mp4 atoms at the beginning of the file.

The specific ffmpeg library error is 'moov atom not found'

This has always been the case with alac and aac files and Triode talked
about it many times first when he added those decoders to squeezelite.

When that's the case, squeezelite can't play the file, it needs to find
the moov atom before the audio stream.

The alac files convert to wav using ffmpeg -i file.m4a file.wav as
ffmpeg can seek to the end of the file to read the atoms and then seek
back to the audio stream.

I've encounter this before and fixed it using the mp4file program from
'mp4v2 2.0.0'

The files play fine after running

mp4file --optimize filename.m4a

I can upload the "fixed" files, however you're likely to run into this
problem again in the future and I'd suggest installing mp4v2 2.0+ or
build it from source.

Hello Ralphy.

Many thanks again for your response.

I have removed the package as per your instructions and then
reinstalled.

Regrettably it would appear that the Pulse package is not compatable
with Mint as it failed to run as shown by console output at the foot of
this post.

Building from source is beyond my Linux technical capabilities at
present.

More worryingly I appear to have lost sound output on my box - local
music files whilst apparently running in the default music player
produce no sound

Obviously I have messed up somewhere along the way.

Anyway that's not your concern - thanks for your help in getting me this
far.

Cheers

Alan

This happens when no network interfaces are available when squeezelite
starts.

Here's the code the initially sets the mac address to all zeros just
before "probing the nics" with sockets.

Sounds like the Defeat destructive Touch-To-Play in player setting.
Have you recently upgraded from an older version of LMS as the default
behaviour was changed.

Try changing the setting to Do not defeat in the webgui.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Squeezeplay and Linux Mint 18.2 - streams drops, program crashes

2017-08-02 Thread ralphy

Unfortunately, those additional instructions on the download page are
for the standard alsa version and an not required for the pulseaudio
version.

Start by removing squeezplay

sudo apt-get purge squeezeplay

cd /opt
sudo rm -rf squeezeplay

The rm command may fail and that's okay.

Revert any changes you made to ld.config and well as any other files you
might have changed trying to get the alsa version to work then reboot.

Reinstall

sudo dpkg -i squeezeplay-pulse_7.8.0~996_amd64.deb

Then open a terminal and run /opt/squeezeplay/bin/squeezeplay.sh
Do not prefix with sudo.

Do you still have the same problem?

If yes, then it's likely that the debian 8 build doesn't work with mint
and you'll need to build from source.
