Correct they will deliver the exact same bit stream :) they will also
sound the same unless one of the sources is seriusly broken or the DAC
is very shoddily built . Now devout audiophiles starts to talk about
“jitter” etc as a factor .

Jriver is decent software and does not claim any magic features , but
there are other fake software like amarra and audio optimiser , that
claims to optimise your pc for audio playback , beware

Yes, you can do that. Setup pCP, but do not expand the file system to
fill the whole card. Once it is setup, pull the card and create a 3rd
partition on the card to use the rest of the space, and then add your
music.

Then restart your pi, and setup the mounting of the new partion on the
pCP / LMS web page. It will show up under the USB mounting.

Paul ,

Can I help testing this at this moment ?
Currently I have no working option to modprobe -r and modprobe from an
auto starting script in pcp 322.
Manually starting the script from the cli does work.

2017-11-02 Thread steff

Talking about "bitperfect", I would like to ask a question to you.

If we take different devices labeled as "bitperfect", I suppose that
there should not be any difference among them.
I mean... no difference in the bitstream delivered...
is this sentence correct?

Since I am playing around this matters since years, some days ago i got
an OTG USB cable and connected my DACs to a Sony Experia Z1 Android
smartphone where I installed "USB Audio Player PRO".
Everything is played from a NAS and it works well even with my 352 kHz \
24 bit FLAC with no problems.

The question is: what could be the difference between an Android
smartphone running USB Audio Player Pro and pCP and a PC running Jriver
or any other high-end multi k$$$ streamer?
If bitperfect is bitperfect... there shuld be no difference at all
(speaking about bitstream and not other features), or not?

thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] LMS problem on debian jessie

2017-11-02 Thread Krisbee

Any one of netstat, ps, top, htop at the CLI should confirm if LMS is
running and on what ports on your system. Jessie/OMV uses systemd so
it's better to use systemctl commands, e.g. systemctl status
logitechmediaserver, systemctl restart logitechmediaserver, etc.
Assuming you have enabled ssh access to Jessie/OMV command line.

In OMV you could also use the webui to look at the running process.
Using "netstat -plant" as root should show a perl program is listening
on 127.0.0.1:9000 in a default LMS setup. Use something like "ps aux |
grep squeeze" to show slimserver.pl is running.

[SlimDevices: Unix] LMS problem on debian jessie

2017-11-02 Thread phanter

Hey there

I having a problem with the logitech media server on my debian
jessie/openmediavault 3.0.90 installation.

I set up a few systems and never had a problem with LMS. But this time
it doesen't want to run.

I installed LMS like described on this page
wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/DebianPackage
I tried all versions. Everytime, the installation succeds, the server
starts correctly.

Code:

~# sudo service logitechmediaserver status
logitechmediaserver.service - LSB: Startup script for the Logitech
Media Server
  Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/logitechmediaserver)
Active: active (exited) since Do 2017-11-02 17:43:03 CET; 3s ago
  Process: 15052 ExecStop=/etc/init.d/logitechmediaserver stop (code=exited,
status=0/SUCCESS)
  Process: 15088 ExecStart=/etc/init.d/logitechmediaserver start (code=exited,
status=0/SUCCESS)

  Nov 02 17:43:03 DMW-NAS logitechmediaserver[15088]: Making sure that Logitech
Media Server is not running first: Starting Logitech Media Server.
Nov 02 17:43:03 DMW-NAS systemd[1]: Started LSB: Startup script for the
Logitech Media Server.
Hint: Some lines were ellipsized, use -l to show in full.

But i can't find the server. There is nothing on the port 9000.

Code:

netstat -a

Netstat also gives me no entry. There is no logitech media server uses
any port.

Do you have any ideas, what the problem could be?
Is there a permission failure?

Any help would be nice :)

Thanks in advance

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] rpi3+pcp3.22+LMS causes transporter & SBradio to jump in and out of LMS

2017-11-02 Thread epoch1970

Unfortunately old is not synonymous with experienced. I've never run LMS
off pCP...

I think it can be an issue with the Pi's hardware, with networking (on
the Pi or on the switch/router), or LMS.

Pi hardware: what is connected to the Pi over USB? It is a rather
frequent case that users connect too many devices to the USB ports, and
some get disconnected by the platform. AFAIK max current draw is 1A over
the 4 ports (e.g. max 1A with 1 port, max 500mA each for 2 ports etc.)
As you know, ethernet is connected via USB so an USB reset might affect
your connection. The stock PSU for Pi 3 can output 2.5A over 5V
sustained. If your PSU is weak, like 1A, it is possible that all the
current goes to the Pi itself and not enough remains for the USB ports.

It *think* "dmesg" could show something upon disconnects. Otherwise
adding bootcode "syslog" to cmdline.txt in pCP will allow
/var/log/messages to be created, and there you should get a regular
system log.

Networking: are you using DHCP? If not I would. In case there is a typo
in networking config you can get disconnects/no connection at all. Make
sure the IP used by pCP is indeed unique to the network, an IP conflict
would create transient issues like the one you're seeing.
Also if you're using one of those fancy "green ethernet" network
devices, try and see if disabling power management on the port used by
Pi in the switch/router changes anything.

LMS: could LMS be caught in a fail/restart loop? I would open a session
on pCP, check "ps" regularly and see if the main LMS process ages or on
the contrary, keeps changing PID which would indicate a restart.

I don't think mySB.com would have much to do with this. If you can live
without Internet for a few minutes, you could try pulling the WAN cable
from the router and see if players still reset. I don't see why that
would change anything but when everything's lost...

Have you checked your power on resume settings for each player ?

And also I *think* there is a setting in the audio settings for the
digital out should behave if the playback is stopped , just to adopt to
varius AV recievers and DAC's that auto switch depending on the state on
the spdiff output .

Sorry , that I have no Touch or SB3 connected anymore they exposed this
setting and i think the transporter does to, I forgot the name of this
setting :/
This could affect "clicking" and input switch of in associated equipment

The screen display is driven by LMS. so if LMS connection is broken
screen will go blank. I think the audio click is when audio stream is
empty not when LMS connection is gone. As player have a buffer -
normally if playing and connection to LMS is broken - audio will
continue unitl buffer is empty but display will change.

To be sure what is happening enable logging - network.protocol.slimproto
to INFO

2017-11-02 Thread Mnyb

No keep them registred , but make sure it's the same account for all
players .

And also put in your mysqueezebox login in the LMS settings for that so
that your LMS can see your mysb.com account . That way switching players
back and forth goes smoothly (you can see from within LMS if a player is
at mysb.com ) and the app and radio menu in LMS will work properly.
And actually if you have your LMS account set in LMS you will probably
find your picore player registred at mysb.com too .

I really have no clue but

The "picore player" is on the same PI as LMS and they don't loose
conection ?, could that tell us anything ? regarding networking .

Yes radio's wifi icon turns red when conection is lost .

Further youre sure that the players are connected by ethernet ? you
don't just have to put in the cables you must also redo the network
setup in each player .

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] rpi3+pcp3.22+LMS causes transporter & SBradio to jump in and out of LMS

2017-11-02 Thread _NK_

Three veterans to the rescue ;) Thanks epoch1970 Mnyb bpa for jumping
in!

I'm afraid troubleshooting this one will be a b*tch..

-No double lms servers here. Only one and that's the 7.9.1 that comes
with PCP. Prior to spotify pulling the plug all my hardware squeezeboxes
were connected only to mysqueezebox.com.

-nothing is synced (this would be next on the list provided that this
strange issue is sorted out hopefully)

-bpa I have not checked the lcd screen of the SBradio for any relevant
icons (my current setup is all wired, not sure if anything is to change
to "red" but this is the first time I'm using said Radio over wire. I
recall in my previous setup when SBR was wireless that upon losing
wireless -or mySB.com connection can't recall- the wifi icon became red
indeed)

-the Transporter when connected to mysb.com or a local lms (has
installed lms in my previous house) behaves normally i.e. clicks it's
optical ins/outs each time connection to server mysb or lms is lost and
again each time it is restored. When I hit "off" it stays dark and
noiseless till the next time I call it's services. Now with the
Transporter connected to pcp's lms the behaviour is like: connects
ok...plays whatever radio stream I ask normally..I stop it.."power it
off via orangesqueeze or remote control"..wait a min...hear clicking
sound (meaning lost server connection...wait a couple of secs...hear
clicking sounds again meaning server connection restored...and the loop
goes on until I decide it's time to post to the forum and ask for
assistance lol

-all this I repeat can be visually verified on orangesqueeze where one
can see the players Radio and Transporter
appearing/disappearing/reappearing from the available players list.

-*strangely* player "picoreplayer" appears to never exhibit such
behaviour (at least from orangesqueeze's pov). Is is actually rather
frustrating having the KitchenRadio selected as active player in
orangesq and trying to hit "pause" or whatever only to find that half a
second ago KitchenRadio fell off the list causing the picoreplayer to
become the active player and thus having my "pause" or whatever getting
sent to picoreplayer instead.

Looking forward to your feedback guys

Nikos

___Dumb question just came to mind...should I go to mysqb.com and delete
my players maybe? Said Transporter and said Radio were "registered" all
these years while the newcomer picoreplayer that's not behaving silly
has never been connected to mysbx.com__
