Interesting you achieved all this; I’m using PiCorePlayer and it’s
mostly what I need.
However some more customization would be nice. How did you achieve this
quoted behavior, would you explain?

Yes, iirc the Pi built-in wi-fi does not support ch13.

I thought about that, too, but my router correctly uses two separate mac
ids. But yes, finally the channel I used (ch13) was the issue. Glad I

Some devices will not show both bands if the AP uses the same mac for
both bands.
I have seen Android behave like that with an AP. Android device would
only show 5ghz ssid with 2.4ghz ssid invisible to the device.
I moaned to the ap maker, Billion, who released new firmware that used
different mac per wireless interface.

But invalid channel for the device also seems highly likely.

Thanks Paul for the hints, so I took some further attempts, but to no
success.
It seems that Pi/PiCore/PiCorePlayer totally ignore the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi,
although all my other devices (Laptop, mobiles, Squeezeradio, and pCP
previously) have no issues with it.

I wasn't even actually aware before that there was an option to assign
separate SSIDs for the two WiFi bands in my router... but now I did it.
Most of my devices are an 5 GHz by now, but a few still need 2.4, plus
it reaches more far than the 5 GHz signal.

Surprisingly, even after assigning a different SSID (highway69n) to the
2.4 band, that new SSID is not shown in the WiFi Diagnostic page, but
only the 5 band (highway69).

I'm about done here.. last options might be to mess around with IPv6 but
before I do that I might rather switch back to pCP 3.5.

How can I "pastebin" the results of the wifi diagnostics... ok I managed
to attach as PDF.

You need to find these parameters for the specific network that the Pcp
is going to operate on.

The DHCP server usually transmits these to the Pcp instance so you will
have to ask the network owner/manageer for these parameters.

You probably won't need NTP as I believe OOTB Pcp uses ntp.org

Out of interest how will you set these with no network ?

Yes, wifi has been completely rewritten, but should not affected channel
connections. If I had to guess it is failing at 5G and then before it
can switch to 2.4G it is timing out. I have no idea how a RPI functions
in an environtment with the same SSID for both bands, because my wifi
router doesn't allow it.

Any way you can connect over hardware, then run wifi diagnositics and
the pastebin the results.

Clean install on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ with 7" screen,

Issues with WiFi after the fresh install. It works when Pi is near the
router, grabbing 5 GHz band. But when located more far, at it’s usual
location, it doesn’t connect anymore. Should at least connect to 2.4 GHz
band, which is still available there.

This wasn’t an issue on pCP 3.5. Have your changes affected the
selection of 5 vs 2.4 GHz network?
