Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer memory questions

2022-03-27 Thread Michael Herger

I was mainly concerned that the SSD was being used as a swap drive or
something similar that would be writing to it too often.

I've used multiple Pis with SD cards for years. Not a single one card
failed so far. The SD card in my main system must be 4-5 years old.

Would there be any benefit to going to an 8GB memory model of the CM4?

I don't think so. Unless you you started tinkering and tweaking, moving
caches or whatever to a large RAM disk (hoping its content would never
exceed the disk's capacity!). But you'd likely spend more time trying to
get this to work as expected than it would take you time to set up a
system installation from scratch, recovering from a crash.

Don't worry: 1.5G are used for buffers, 1.8G caches. LMS only uses
around 200MB.

[SlimDevices: Unix] PiCorePlayer Raspberry Pi4 Waveshare 7'' touchscreen problem

2022-03-27 Thread Nonick

Hi!
I've set up PiCorePlayer on Raspberry Pi4. Everything seems running
fine, except Waveshare 7'' Touchscreen (with case, hdmi) is not working
properly.

This is the screen:
https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/7inch_HDMI_LCD_(H)_(with_case)
Added to config.txt
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
config_hdmi_boost=10
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=87
hdmi_cvt 1024 600 60 6 0 0 0

Stopped JiveLite temporary.
command: cat /proc/bus/input/devices
command: sudo TSLIB_FBDEVICE=/dev/fb0 TSLIB_TSDEVICE=/dev/input/event0
/usr/local/bin/ts_calibrate
Calibration works fine, managed all 5 points of calibration.
Tested calibration command: sudo TSLIB_FBDEVICE=/dev/fb0
TSLIB_TSDEVICE=/dev/input/event0 /usr/local/bin/ts_test

Set JiveLite Autostart = On.
When PiCorePlayer boots, it displays language setup for JiveLite, but
touch is not working.
Tried with config.txt dtoverlay=kms, no success.

Has anyone managed to setup WaveShare 7inch touchscreen to work with
PiCorePlayer/JiveLite?
Thanks

[SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer memory questions

2022-03-27 Thread TerryS

I am building a server/player with a Raspberry pi CM4 module that uses
piCorePlayer 8.1.0 64 bit. I am using the LMS (slimserver as well as
the player (squeezelite) and a 5" dsi touch display with Jivelite.
I am curious about the memory requirements. The CM4 module has 4GB
memory and 32GB eMMC. When I let it run for a while the memory used
(using TOP) climbs to over 3.9GB and memory free is about 100MB.
Everything seems to run perfectly. I let it run all night streaming to
three players (the 'internal' pcp and two other players). It is working
well with no buffering and seems responsive. I am using ethernet to
connect the server/player and the server is using a USB attached 1TB
SSD. The player uses a DFR0941 with TI PCM5122 DAC (using the
Generic/Simple TI5102 DAC setup in the pcp - seems to work fine.)
I'm just curious about the memory usage. Does it seem reasonable that
it would use almost all memory? Does this mean the SSD is being used
as a swap drive?

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Squeezelite - a small headless squeezeplay emulator for linux (alsa only)

2022-03-27 Thread bpa

Taking Ralphy's advice - my suggested command line would be now

Code:

  squeezelite -n AES -a ::24:1 -u E -Z 38400 -r 48000-48000 -d all=debug -o
hw:CARD=RAVENNA

If choppiness continue try increasing ALSA buffer size such as

Code:

  squeezelite -n AES -a 80:4:24:1 -u E -Z 38400 -r 48000-48000 -d all=debug -o
hw:CARD=RAVENNA

"Softness" may be due to the LMS doing volume control and possibly Gain
according to tags. If you want to do like-for-like comparison with
"aplay" try changing
WebUI Settings/Player/Audio/Volume Control to "Output level is fixed at
100%"

sudo (or membership of Audio group) maybe necessary to change the mmap
options to get rid of "error" message in Squeezelite log or set realtime
priority.
