2019-06-05 Thread Greg Erskine

hi carsten_h,

I don't think there is a general problem with piCorePlayer like you
describe... if there was, lots of people would be complaining!

I use 2.4GHz wifi exclusively. I do a lot of my development on RPi's
over wifi and I reboot many times a day.

Of course, there could be a unique combination with your network and
piCorePlayer, or something special with your pCP setup that highlights a
hidden piCorePlayer issue.

Greg

Hello!

It is not a problem of the WIFI signal to have bad quality. It is only
that piCorePlayer is not getting an IP address via DHCP. The connection
quality itself is good!

...and your wlan Adapter is named wlan0 -> that means your using the
onboard wifi from the rpi3 that is known for bad wifi if your not
soldering an external antenna to it

attach an external antenna or buy a usb wifi with antenna.

Had the same problem but then with one older android phone. Last week
microwave died, suddenly problem gone and then it hit me. Interference
on the 2.4Ghz band.
Not saying you're microwave is faulty but could it be a interference
from another device or equipment like microwave, handheld landline phone
or something else in the 2.4 band?

Sorry for leading you astray, it looks like these feature didn't get

Can you see if there is a NETWORK_WAIT="50" towards the end of

Did I mention the "Network wait" command on the [Wifi Settings] page.

This was added for some USB wifi adaptors that were very slow to
negotiate with DHCP. Unlike yours, these adaptors were always slow, not
intermittent.

If you dramatically increase this value it might give you an indication
if the backgrounded DHCP eventually occurs.

Did you use the same audio card on the "another Pi 3B+ at the same place

Way back, I have seen problems with built-in wifi and some audio cards.
I would just add a USB wifi adaptor in this case and turn off the
built-in wifi.

I can't remember the exact combination of RPi and hifi board and
software unfortunately.

How many times did you restart Raspbian vs pCP. Your original post said
sometimes...With wifi, intermittent problems are almost always
signal strength issues.Raspbian might have better fault tollerance
with the many daemons running in the background. That is a trade off
when running the lightweight pCP.

How far away is pCP from the router?

I'd be inclined to try a USB wifi adaptor to see if its more reliable.

Normally I see the connect at the third message of "udhcpc: sending
discover". I don't know how long this takes.

Every other device is getting an IP address via DHCP. And normally it is
working for this Raspberry also without any problem. I have also a Pi
zero with Raspbian and this is getting an IP Address every time.
There is no message in the error log of the router.

hi carsten_h,

When you do connect, you need to run [Diagnostics] on the [Wifi
Settings] page.

Check signal quality and level. Also look at the ping tests, they should
be a few ms and reasonably consistent and 0% packet loss.

Have you noticed when it does connect how long it takes. Does it
approach 52 (26 seconds) like when it fails?
