*JOB DESCRIPTION:*

*OBJECTIVE*



To acquire the services of two (2) Consultants at the level of a Digital
Communications Systems Technician (DCST), to assist company’s (ISD) Voice
and Video Applications Division’s (VVAD) Telephone Maintenance Section
(TMS), Telephone Installation Unit to install, configure and test repair
digital and Internet based communications systems, infrastructure, and
equipment. The Consultants shall also assist TMS maintain server supporting
applications such as voicemail, call recording, automated telephone
attendants, and interactive voice response.



The Consultants shall have knowledge of the protocols, procedures,
techniques, and equipment used to install, configure, test, maintain, and
repair telephone and Internet based digital communications systems, Private
Branch Exchange (PBX) and key switching systems, and related equipment; or
network telecommunications circuits, and data communications equipment such
as modems, channel banks, multiplexers, and digital repeaters.



*BACKGROUND*

TMS provides internal and external customers support of premises-based and
centralized telephone systems in two areas: Telephone Systems Repair and
Telephone Systems Adds, Moves, and Changes. This section provides support
on the Cisco Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone system, NEC NEAX
2000 and 2400 series, and Nortel SL-1 series PBX, and associated
maintenance and test terminals as well as the Nortel Meridian key telephone
systems. TMS is vital in providing communication.



The Telephone Installation Unit adds, moves, and changes the configuration
of telephone systems priced on a time and material basis. Services under
this category include billable repairs to equipment not covered under
Telephone Systems Repair such as facsimile machines, ACD Servers, Voice
Mail Servers, modems, and Nortel Meridian key telephone systems.
Additionally, this unit performs moves, adds, or changes for VoIP sites
including Cisco VoIP telephones for both IP Telephony and IP Contact Center.



*DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES*

Consultants shall perform all of the duties listed below:

   - Install, configure, and test digital and Internet based communications
   systems, infrastructure, and equipment, including servers supporting
   applications such as voicemail, call recording, automated telephone
   attendants, and interactive voice response.
   - Troubleshoot circuits, systems, infrastructure, and equipment.
   - Install, program, and test PBX and key telephone switching systems,
   and related equipment, such as NEC, Northern Telecom (Nortel) or Meridian.
   - Provide technical support for telephone moves, additions, and changes.
   - Install and configure digital network telecommunications circuits, and
   digital communications equipment.
   - Under direction from network systems administrators or
   telecommunications systems engineers, install and remove network
   communications hardware such as routers, local area network and wide area
   network switches, or gateways.
   - Install and remove cabling infrastructure such as copper and
   fiber-optic cables, wire management systems, patch panels and jacks
   according to industry standards.
   - Confer and consult with vendors and other representatives regarding
   installation of digital communications systems and equipment.
   - Work closely with vendors regarding installation of software,
   hardware, and circuits.



*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*

The Consultants must meet all of the following minimum qualifications:

   1. Three (3) years of experience within the last five (5) years
   installing, configuring, testing, maintaining, and repairing digital
   telephone PBX and key switching systems.
   2. Three (3) years of experience within the last five (5) years
   installing, configuring, testing, maintaining, and repairing telephone
   systems including VoIP systems, infrastructure, and equipment, and servers
   supporting voicemail, call recording, automated telephone attendants, and
   interactive voice response applications.
   3. Three (3) years of experience within the last five (5) years
   programming and deploying new VoIP phones within the Cisco Unified Call
   Manager as well as Cisco Unity Voicemail.
   4. Must have a valid California Class C Driver License with no travel
   restrictions to perform essential job-related functions. Provide a copy of
   your valid license upon selection.
   5. Must be able to frequently lift tools, supplies, and equipment
   weighing 10 – 25 pounds, and occasionally over 25 pounds. Equipment
   installation and replacement duties require incumbents to regularly use
   6-foot and taller ladders, and perform tasks that require bending,
   stooping,
