I’m not sure what you mean here as you always build on disk? Do you mean save
as standalone menu? No you need to add it manually in the Inclusions pane if
you want it there.

Right, that's what I meant: saving a standalone without using the Test
button, in order to create a file for distribution. Thanks.

Re: I just posted an Augmented Earth sample stack on LiveCode share

Thanks Jonathan, looks interesting - thank you for sharing it.

I have some problems (MacOS 10.10, Mcbook Pro, LC 9.0DP8 Business) -
will email them to you directly.

But (perhaps) more generally interesting for the list - I then tried to
download the iPad version, and ran into "This app is not compatible with
your iPad" - for all 3 of the family's iPads, covering a good range of
iPad models and IOS versions :-)

A close look at the "compatibility" section on the App store makes me
think that you require

 " ... + Cellular".

Is there something in Augmented Earth that requires Cellular ?

Or has that flag been set for some reason ?

Thanks

Alex.

Hello everyone,

The sample stack pulls images from open street maps without a license. This
is only appropriate for experimenting. For distributing apps, you will need
to get a license with a map provider.

If anyone has any questions about how to do any of the stuff demonstrated
in the app, please feel free to ask them here.

I posted it leading up to my presentation at LC Global on Sept. 21 on 3D

Yeah...I've been trying to test my stack with versions that are past 8.14
in hopes that certain glitches are getting resolved. and they are.

everything seems to be running fine.. BUT the standalone is twice the
size.

what could be causing that? ...i've seen it a bunch of times now.

I once watched the folder when the standalone is built. and its your
.livecode file . that gets copied then renamed to exe file . by
what magic this all happens, I guess I will find out iby looking at the
build standalone code.

So I'm guessing something isn't getting erased.

any thoughts? i guess is should bug report it too.

just fyi. i don't know if this is what u need, but you can easily apply
the same datagrid template to more than one data grid object. which could
achieve the same result as a shared group in most use cases.

getResource/getResources?

2017-09-06 Thread Richard Gaskin via use-livecode
I have a project where I need to extract data from the resource fork of
older Mac files.

Several LC versions ago getResource and getResources no longer worked.
But I just checked the v8.1.7 Dictionary and they're not marked as
deprecated.

Anyone here use those on the latest OS X with a version of LC v8 or later?

This is probably the last time I'll need to use those (who uses the res
fork anymore?), but it'll help determine whether I upgrade one of my
machines to a newer OS version.

Thanks in advance for any recent hands-on experience with those
functions you can share.

That would appear to be a separate issue. Whether it's an IDE bug or an

If I get some later today I may try to replicate that, and perhaps even

no, I just wanted to display the SAME data in the same datagrid on more than
one card.
Just like every (background behavior) group would do.

Yes, but I can also forbear this! :-D

Klaus.

Not sure what you mean. Is it that you want specific fields (or all of them)
in a DG to have their sharedText property set to true?

You can do this by hand:

set the sharedText of fld "col 1 0001" to "true"

Re: livecode changes image colors without being asked to do it

2017-09-06 Thread Robert Brenstein via use-livecode
Thanks Sean. I finally had time to check your file and indeed it
displays correctly in 8.1.6.

It still displays wrong in 7.1.3, but it displays differently than the
file without profile, so this must be the profile issue that was fixed
in 8.1.3.

In other words, my problem is with the way jpeg file were generated. It
would be nice if LC handled such files like Preview does or at least
returned a warning that profile is missing.

Hi Robert

I have looked at this and it is reacting this way because a correct
CMYK colorspace profile has not been embedded into the jpeg file.
LiveCode, therefore, has no idea how to interpret the colors and
handles them in an almost raw state oversaturating them. Adding the
closest profile to its natural state helps, in this instance, US Web
Coated (SWOP) v2.

I've attached another source jpg to test with which has this embedded
profile.

datagrid in group with backgroundbehavior?

2017-09-06 Thread Klaus major-k via use-livecode
Hi friends,

the subject says it all, someone tried and succeeded to put a datagrid
into a group and place this goup on more than one card?

But since the fields in a datagrid (table) obviously have their "sharedtext"
prop set to false, I doubt this is possible at all. Any hints welcome!

But that would be a nice feature, right? :-)

This sounds like a regression. Please do file a bug report (and don't
forget to include a sample stack :) ) and we will fix it in 8.1.7 RC-2.

Re: TSNet error 6

2017-09-06 Thread J. Landman Gay via use-livecode
I'll have to find out the answers and do a little more testing. I didn't
have any trouble at all today at a coffee shop near me but one of the
testers has found a very reliable bad network so I can ask him to try the
things you've mentioned.

We were joking today that we have good news - - everything fails really
well now.

Hi Jacque,

Any of those error codes (6, 7 or 35) are reasonable if you are
operating in an area with a really poor connection.

When you are operating on a public wifi, it could have a lot to do with
how the wifi is configured, as Bob mentioned below.  How these are
configured can vary greatly.

Depending on how far you want to go with testing, you could try see if
your app can communicate with other sites when at these coffee shops.
Does it only have trouble with HTTPS sites, or just certain sites?  If
you browse to a site first with Chrome, does your app then work
afterwards?  Does it have trouble if you try connect via the IP address
rather than the hostname?

Cheers,

Charles

Okay, so three of us have been running around for a couple of days
trying to find "bad" internet connections. Sometimes we walk to the
limits of our router until we barely get a connection, and we get curl
error 35. At some coffee shops with a solid connection we get error 6,
once error 7. Sometimes Slack works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes
we don't have any problems at all on public wifi.

I think this is out of our control.

That is interesting. Coffe Shops/Public Wifi typically use a proxy

passing traffic and I have to reset it. Wireless is black magic

When he tests from his own home everything works, as it does for all
of us on the team.

We're wondering if https has anything to do with it. He could
connect to anything with Chrome but both my app and Slack would not
work using https. Could that be a factor?

We need to keep testing to see if https is really the cause, we're
not quite sure yet.

Re: [ANN] Release 8.1.7 RC-1

2017-09-06 Thread Richmond Mathewson via use-livecode

Possibly several steps back might be better than total stagnation.

As I have demonstrated by my article in "Hello World" I'm not always
averse to backward steps if they serve some purpose.

Well, that would take us a step (or lots of steps!) back :)

The dictionary in LC < 8 is totally different, it is a .livecode stack that
displays .xml files (e.g. the dictionary entries).

In LC 8+ it uses a browser widget, and all the entries have been re-written
to .lcdoc files. This makes it more easily maintainable and extensible.

BTW the bug I was referring to (in LC 8), which describes a workaround is
this one:

Hi all,

There are 2 different issues:

1. The dictionary on Linux (and the browser widget in general) does not
work **in some systems** in LC 8.x. This is not distro-specific, but
rather
locale-specific, and there is a workaround described in the bug report.

2. The dictionary on Linux (and the browser widget) does not work at all
in
LC 9.0 DP-7+. This is mentioned as a "known issue" in the release email.
We
have spent *a lot* of hours trying to fix this, but with no result. We
believe that the issue is caused by an incompatibility of the current
version of CEF we use (needed for the browser widget), and we think the
issue will be fixed when we update the version of CEF we use.
Unfortunately
this is not an easy task, so I do not expect it to be fixed in LC 9.0
DP-9.

I have no problems with the dictionary in openSUSE (an unsupported
distro!) in any LC 8.x version including this one. In fact, I haven't
encountered this issue in any of the many different unsupported
distros I've tested.

I do, however, suffer from the problem with the dictionary/browser in
the later versions of LC 9. Aren't these issues the result of at least
two distinct problems?

Thanks for the info, Warren. I see similar results here under Ubuntu
14.04 and 16.04: v8.1.7rc1 opens the Dictionary well, v.9dp8 doesn't.
