Re: All Versions of LC crashing in Sonoma

2023-10-03 Thread Rolf Kocherhans via use-livecode
@Matthias and the Mothership,

My Apple Developer account expired several years ago, and I'm facing a critical
issue with one of my LiveCode Apps, Clarify, developed by Trevor DeVore. This
app is extremely important to me.

Unfortunately, Clarify is no longer actively developed and has started crashing
with Sonoma. I am wondering if there's a possibility to resolve this issue by
signing the bundles. I am more than willing to invest in a new subscription
with Apple if that's what it takes – I can't imagine my work without Clarify.

Could someone please test if signing the bundles might make an app functional
again?
Your assistance in this matter would mean the world to me.

Cheers,
Rolf

Am 30.09.2023 um 18:00 schrieb use-livecode-requ...@lists.runrev.com:

Maybe my observation is not the reason for the crash. Would really not make
sense, when an unsigned app would crash instead of reporting an alert.

But code signing the complete Livecode app bundle would proof it.

Did someone btw had a look at the system log file after the crash?

Re: [ANN] Release 10.0.0 DP-1

2021-12-14 Thread Rolf Kocherhans via use-livecode
First of all thanks for the WebAssembly HTML5 implementation. This is really
great stuff !

I already played with it a lot and found that some things work better others
don't.

For instance all my URL stuff (loading a stack on same domain) is unfortunately
not working anymore.

Also, all the PHP scripts which I used to access, which downloaded stuff from
other domains and then displayed
the result in the Browser don't work anymore.

Is this just me - or is it just not implemented yet ?

And if it is not only me, is this something high on the list ?

WebAssembly and HiDPI scaling for HTML5 when ?

2021-04-03 Thread Rolf Kocherhans via use-livecode
Hello LiveCode Engineers

I am very patiently waiting for HiDPI scaling and WebAssembly
to be incorporated into HTML5 in LiveCode.

Looking at the Git pages it seems to be already ready for a very long time ?

https://github.com/livecode/livecode/milestone/193

Do you have an estimate when you will be able to release LiveCode 9.7-dp-1 to
public ?
It has been in development for almost 1 Year now.

I would like to push HTML5 development on my side, but the "blurry appearance“
of
the published stacks with the low resolution is stopping me because it looks
very
unprofessional for 2021.

Please put a little more resources into HTML5 development it would be a real
winner for the whole Platform.

Rolf

Question about script-only stacks

2018-01-26 Thread Rolf Kocherhans via use-livecode
There seems a lot of hype recently about script-only stacks.
I agree that they are cool vor GIT and work perfectly, but
it came to my mind - how are you go about it when you want to
protect your scripts.

Are they also encrypted by a password when you compile a stack,
and if not what would be the best way to d it ?

What does ATS mean for people using on-rev ?

I am not at all familiar with this subject, therefor

Will it be a per person thing, do I have to install a cert just for me ?

I agree 100 %, I hope the RevOnlineStack will return immediately, and if not,

I believe RevOnline is a great tool/database, because it is not regulated by

Let the mothership develop a better LiveCode, and let us contribute and show

Re: Question About Resolution Independence

2016-02-08 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
Sorry that was a typo just on the eMail !

The stack has a size of 1024*768 pixels.
@ Richmond this size is suggested on a movie about Resolution Independence:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idctzDFoGj8=youtu.be

I think that that Colin could be correct with his suggestion of using:

iphoneUseDeviceResolution but there are so many possibilities (4), and I do not
fully understand all the text in the Dictionary

iphoneUseDeviceResolution true
iphoneUseDeviceResolution true, true
iphoneUseDeviceResolution true, false
iphoneUseDeviceResolution false

Has anyone used this already ?

I thought that I can just use:

on preOpenStack
set the fullScreenMode of this stack to "exactFit"
end preOpenStack

And all my resolution problems would be done ?!

What do you all use - can we really program for one screen size and deploy
to all devices ?

Question About Resolution Independence

2016-02-07 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
I am experimenting with "Resolution Independence" and different screen
sizes for developing on the mobile platform (iOS).

When I set "iPod,iPhone,iPad" in the "Build for" settings in the "Standalone
Application Settings" I always get an 1X or 2X at the bottom/right of a real
iPad (with Retina display).

Why is this so, normally I get these (1X or 2X) only if an app is not programmed
for iPad to enlarge the screen to full size - right ?

But my stack has a size of 1025*768 and I have checket the correct
„Build for setting“…. ?

I get the „1X" also when I just Build for iPad ?!

Any idea ?

Indy doubles in price because of HTML5 export ?

2015-11-06 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
To all at LiveCode

Do I read and interpret your announcement (Fireworks for HTML5) correctly ?

There are now two Indy license types, one with HTML5 and one without ?

I had a (what was called Enterprise License) for many, many years with all
Deployment options intakt - this recently got converted to an Indy License.

You recently also introduced a new Business version which is very expensive.

Now you have an another new License type called "Indy - All Platforms“ for 998$

What was once ease becomes complicated, and expensive.

I can’t afford to by Indy for all platforms at this price - sorry !

To double the price „if I read your announcement correctly“ seems to
unreasonable to me.

Luckily I was a founder of the HTML5 feature - I hope that this qualifies me to
get
HTML5 export with my current Indy licence for ever, or does it not ?

I wonder what others think about this...

HTML5 "get URL"

2015-09-03 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
I am experimenting with the „get URL“ command on a HTML5 WebApp.

I can’t get it to work at all :-(

The get URL command can be used in 3 ways with file - ftp or
http urls, I guess the HTML5 get URL command is not used
for ftp or http because the relay on LibURL (just a guess).

Therefore I concentrated on the file command to access local files on the
Server where I host the WebPage.

Example: get URL ("file:" & "/public_html" & "/text.txt")

Can anybody help ? I guess I have a problem with not knowing the correct
path to the file which I want to import ?

You can download it here:

I should have called the Plugin „Kochi Mini CVS“ instead of "Kochi Mini SVN",
the
name confuses people I guess.

But it does write text files of every control to a file (UTF8) which can then
be used with GIT.

And, it integrates into the IDE, after installing the Plugin you find the
buttons to export the
scripts as text-files, in the ScriptEditor, in the top Bar.

BAF and other things - I am confused...

2015-08-18 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
I didn’t wanna chime in into all those discussions, but I am totally confused by
the LiveCode mothership recently, and I have to now.

I am confused with the new BAF License and all the talk about SVN.

It is very clear to me that SVN does make a lot of sense to everyone. Therefore
I programmed a plugin and made it available to all for free already in 2012
( http://livecodeshare.runrev.com/stack/669/Kochi-Mini-SVN-Installer ).
Monte also had a go at the subject in a much more professional way !

Now when I read about Business App Framework features here:
https://livecode.com/products/livecode-platform/pricing/ it says:

—-
The BAF separates out parts of a project into individual files, with template
definitions
and scripts stored as text.
—-

Is this not what SVN needs ?
Can we now all stop talking about creating an SVN Plugin or beg LiveCode to
incorporate SVN into the IDE because we now just need to buy the Business
Edition
since all the work is already done ?

And if it is not so, can someone from the Mothership please show us in a Movie
or similar way what the BAF exactly does ?!
How could one decide to buy or not to buy it when we know so little about it.

Second question:

The new Widgets and the new LiveCode Builder language, when and how do we get
more
information about how to use the Language ?

I had a look at all the movies and blog posts, but to be honest, for me the
present info is not
at all enough to feel confident that I can create widgets on my own !

Can the mothership please chime in ?

Re: [ANN] Yosemite Styles Window Plugin (free)

Hello Everyone…

To create custom shape windows in general is easy, but it is

Re: 7.0.1-RC4 crashing regularly

2014-12-17 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
Hello all

I now see these crashes with 7.0.1-RC4 on OS X as well.
Unfortunately no recipe yet.

The stack is very simple 1 button and 1 image, all I
can say is that when I click on the stack after the crash
it would not load this stack again (corrupted).

No crashes with 7.0.1-RC2

Re: Sending Terminal Command (Python) Using LiveCode?

2014-08-27 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
Hello John

Yes this is possible, I do this all the time !

The way I use it:
Create a stack with a field, put the whole python script (can have multiple
lines) into the field.
Replace place holders (replace %NAME% with Peter etc.) in the field, and then
put field into a
variable and execute it with the shell command !

This works very well, if you need more info, contact me off list.

 Hi All,

I manage a lot of accounts in our Google Apps for Education deployment. I
have used LiveCode to automate a lot of the csv creation for this process.

I use a Terminal application (GAM) created in Python to do some of this too.

I would like to be able to call the GAM Python scripts via LiveCode. A
typical GAM python terminal command would be something like:

python gam.py create user j...@student.email.k12.ca.us firstname John
lastname Doe password 11 change password off

Could I call this Python script directly from LiveCode?

 Something like:

 on mouseUp
 shell(python gam.py create user j...@student.sylvan.k12.ca.us firstname John
lastname Doe password 11 change password off
 end mouseUp

This seems too easy. I?m guessing I would have to point Livecode to the
proper directory (path) to the Python app. etc.

Is calling python scripts possible through LiveCode? ?in need of an example :)

 Thank you!

[SERVER] Is it possible to run a stack on LC-Server and interact with it ?

2014-05-13 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
Hi All

After reading the revUp article Cool Cat Server from David Williams some
time ago here:

http://newsletters.livecode.com/november/issue160/newsletter1.php

I was wondering if it is possible to take a snapshot of a stack running on a
server
and directly interact with the snapshot from within a browser !

Kind of remotely control it... :-)

After a lot of learning I came up with this:

LiveCode 6.6 very slow on Retina MacBookPro

2014-03-25 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
Hello all

I noticed that LiveCode 6.6 is very slow on MacBooks with Retina display on
everything I do with it.

My latest project-stack has a size of 500kb with about 10 bg buttons on it and
3 bg fields. When I click onto a button to edit the script in 6.6 on Retina
MacBook,
I can count to two until the script editor opens, everything is very, very slow
!

At work, with a new iMac (late 2013), this is not the case, the script editor
shows up almost
instantly.

I first thought that it might be that one, or all of my plugins could be
responsible
for this, but nada. I removed all plugins and I experience the same
slow speed with LC 6.6 .

After I noticed this, I repeated my tests with LiveCode 6.5.2 and I found that
6.5.2 has the same speed on both Mac's.

To be sure that this is real I wanted to ask you to verify this. I created
two apps, one created with 6.5.2 and one with 6.6. They contain only a
background and now other controls.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/616613/Created%20with%20LiveCode%206.5.2.zip
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/616613/Created%20with%20LiveCode%206.6.zip

If you open them side by side and enlarge the window at the bottom right then
you can see that the behavior on an iMac or any Mac with no Retina display is
very similar.

On a MacBook Pro with Retina Display the window from the 6.6 version „jumps“
and does not enlarge smoothly.

This is just one example to show the slow performance of LC 6.6 on OSX.
For me LC 6.6 does not feel good at all on a MacBook with Retina display.

Others ?

Cheers
Rolf

PS: Both systems where running the latest OSX with all updates.

There are many of us waiting for major new features for the desktop version,

We had to be patient and see how runrev's main goal was to push the mobile

[ANN] Free Kochi Mini SVN a very simple Version Control System” for LiveCode

2012-11-03 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
I'm happy to announce the availability of Kochi Mini SVN, it is totally free !

Kochi Mini SVN is a very, very, simple Script-Level Version Control System
for LiveCode, built directly into the LiveCode Script Editor.

As a LiveCode enthusiast I have always wanted to have a simple to use
Script-Level Version Control System for LiveCode. I saw a very impressive
tool at RUNREV LIVE 2011 created by David Bovill. He suggested on his talk to
not to be afraid to dive into the LiveCode IDE to find out more about the inner
workings of LiveCode. His talk really inspired me to dig into the IDE and
build, what I call the Kochi Mini SVN plugin, while we wait for his tool to
be published.

The god thing, when you create such a beast on your own, you can decide exactly
how its going to work :-). My goal was simplicity, that’s the reason why I
designed the installer as a plugin. I am on the LC development channel and
therefore get new versions frequently, with the plugin I can install Kochi
Mini SVN very quickly and easyly.

Best Practice - Install / Deinstall when you have no other stacks open since
you have to restart LiveCode !

Important: When you try to Uninstall Kochi Mini SVN, the IDE throws an
warning message at you, saying that a stacks (revSE__Script__SVN) is already in
memory. This is because the plugin and the IDE carry the same substack. You can
just ignore this message and click OK and uninstall safely, no data loss will
occur.
This problem could easily be overcome when the substack would be stored in a
custom property of the main stack. I did not do this on purpose, to have easier
access to the substack, to fix things or add features !

How does it work:
The Stack Kochi Mini SVN has to be used as a plugin, so please move it into
your plugin folder before you try to install/uninstall Kochi Mini SVN.

When you install Kochi Mini SVN, it places 4 buttons, 2 images and one
support substack (revSE__Script__SVN) into the LiveCode Script Editor. Kochi
mini SVN Installer does NOT alter any scripts from the LiveCode IDE. After a
restart to clean up memory, you're ready to use Kochi Mini SVN inside the
Script Editor Window.

Whenever you like to check-in a script from any object, stack or substack you
can now do so directly from within the Script Editor. Just hit the button
Check In this will then save the script in a TEXT file (UTF8 Encoded) into a
folder (which gets created on demand) just next to your stack. All saved script
files contain the check-in date as well as the script itself in an XML like
fashion !

If you at a later time would like to go back to a previous saved script or just
compare what you have done, then just click the SVN Revisions button and
choose a different file from the past (listed by date). This action will then
open the support substack and show you your actual script alongside the saved
script. Script differences are hilited.

What Kochi mini SVN can do for you:
- it can store scripts of any control/stack/substack in a text file on a local
or remote folder (DropBox)
- it can diff compare between check-in in code and your actual code
- it can replace your actual code with checked-in code right from the Script
Editor
- format all your scripts handlers by pressing the button Format, the tab key
sometimes updates only one handler
- it can remove comments and empty lines in your scripts with the Compact
button
- since text files are stored in a folder next to the stack, multiple people
can have access to the changed text files if the stack is stored on a server
- text files get indext by Spotlight (on OSX) and are therefore searchable from
the finder (this is my favorite feature, to find handlers wich I have
programmed in the past !)
- the Stack file format is 2.7 so that it works with LiveCode version 4.6.4 as
well

What it can not do:
- it does not store information about any object properties
- scripts are not saved automatically, you have to Check In and Check Out
your code
- it does not do SVN branching or merging
- it can not recreate a stack from the saved text files
- it can not store custom comments or custom version numbers with the script
files
- Kochi Mini SVN is certainly not bug free :-)

I like to share Kochi Mini SVN for free, give something back to the
community, some of what it has given to me. So just enjoy it, I hope Kochi
Mini SVN is useful to lots of people !

If you like Kochi Mini SVN please consider to donate something to my PayPal
account !

I release Kochi Mini SVN under the MIT License with the exception that
whatever you do with my code, the resulting software has to remain FREE OF
CHARGE !

You can download “Kochi Mini SVN” conveniently from RevOnline.

I hope that some of the pros (or the RunRev prople) on this list take up my
idea and develop my plugin further or create something much better :-). There
is plenty of room for improvement, for example the diff handler could be
improved to work more reliable and

Send a message when the mouse hilites text on an option menu, possible ?

2012-11-02 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
I have an option menu with say 3 entries. When I click the onto the
option menu, I can see all 3.

When I hover up and down, the one which I am over is hilited.

Is it possible to do something with this hilite ?

I like to show some additional info about the hilited position.

In my case the 3 entries are filepathes and when I am over
the hilite I would like to display for example the first line of that file
in a field.

[TEASER] Kochi Mini SVN a very simple Script-Level Version Control System for LiveCode

Just a little teaser of a tool I made. Recently there was a lot of talk on both

Shell is now also blocking animated gif's ?

2012-08-20 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
In the past I used a lot of shell commands. I have always used a animated gif's
to show that the app is still running, because the shell blocked LiveCode but
not animated gif's.

With the new version of LiveCode 5.5.1 this seems not to work anymore !
LiveCode is now blocked totally, not even animated Gif's are working.

Is this just me ? Can I change a setting to have my animated Gif's
animate again ?

Why is LiveCode now acting different ?

[ANN] New custom control OS X Lion async png progress bar (on RevOnline)

2012-07-19 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
I was also testing RevOnline with a Stack (157K) and the upload worked :-) !

LiveCode does not give us the nice blue animated progress bar Lion has,
the one we have - is only static !

I never liked this, animated progress bars make the user believe that the
waiting time is up to 11% shorter.

http://www.newscientist.com/video/76695476001-progress-bar-illusion.html

I wanted to fiddle with png animation for a while, since I now needed a
progress bar
for a self updating application, I decided to try to create one.

Because I learned so much from both lists and people are constantly helping
everybody
I like to share it with all of you :-) !

Find instructions on how to use it in the stack itself (under the question
mark),
Download the stack from RevOnline (-User Samples) from within LiveCode
(the Stack file format is 2.7).

Enjoy !

Hello Mark Andre

I try for weeks, to upload to revOnline, I have great stuff

I created a [Ticket#201205091326] two weeks ago with support

They wrote back - but their answer leaves me in the wind….
I don't think I can post it here because it was not very encouraging at all.

After reading your post Andre I had hopes that it is all fixed, so I also
tried to use the reset password trick which you descried,
but the upload still did not work just as before !

It looks as it just stalls when uploading !

I am using LiveCode 5.0.2, what version did you use ?

Why does it sometimes work and other times not ???

And why don't they fix this immediately, I think that revOnline is a
fantastic feature which really should just work - always !

openStack called from subStack - why ?

2012-04-20 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
After years of coding, today I discovered for the first time while debugging
that an openStack handler in a mainStack gets also called when a subStack
of it is opened !

I put this into the stackScript of the MainStack:

global varMainStackName
on openStack
put the short name of this stack into varMainStackName
end openStack

In a button I display the variable varMainStackName:

global varMainStackName
on mouseUp
   answer varMainStackName
end mouseUp

When I now add a substack also containing the display button
it contains the name of the substack and not the name of
the mainStack !

I found in the docs that if I put the script onto the first card of
the mainStack instead of into the stackScript, it all works as expected !

But why ?
This confuses me totally !

I always had the (wrong!) impression that every openStack handler is
only called once, and also that it belongs to the stack containing it.

Can someone explain why this is not so !

Re: openStack called from subStack - why ?

2012-04-20 Thread Rolf Kocherhans
Hello Jacques

Thanks for your answer - but….

I know about the message path and that handlers in the main stack can be used by
all of it's substacks, I used this feature myself for many years !

What puzzles me is that an openStack handler in the mainStack gets executed when
a substack (containing NO CODE at all) is opened ?

Till today I was thinking openStack handlers are a per stack thing only.

I am still confused abut this :-)

Cheers
Rolf

 Hi Rolf,
Seems straightforward for me: every message handler in the main stack's
script is available to every substack and their cards… that's the ground of
 the message path!
