OT: Mac vs Win partisanship is unnecessary

2010-07-21 Thread Curry Kenworthy

I find an OS-driven personality/identity amusing. I am not anti-Flash,
anti-QuickTime, anti-HTML5, anti-Windows, or anti-Mac. If Flash or
Windows irritate someone, that's fine. I subscribe to the old Think
Different philosophy, not one that encourages being the same.

If what's good for the goose applies...why is bashing Mac off limits but
we have gloating directed at Windows users? Come on people, these are
two operating systems (and companies) that drive tools to help us in
life and business, hopefully not two religions or two systems that
should drive us to follow them. Each has its strengths. Each has its
problems. Neither deserves to be a master, because people should use
tools and not the other way around. Mac lovers, more power to you!
Windows or Linux users--the same sentiment exactly, enjoy the OS you prefer.

I signed up with Rodeo and am looking forward to using it. However, a
Windows or web editor would be great too. If I need to always edit on
Mac, so be it, but using one technology or another I'm sure I will be
writing apps for iPhone or iPad from Windows eventually if I so desire.
(If it's an IDE written in Flash, that's fine too!) By the same token I
like to be able to develop for other devices on the Mac if that comes in
handy. That's the great thing about progress--more possibilities, not
fewer. And the Rodeo team has certainly been helpful and nice when
fielding OS and device questions.

As Jerry said, the OS boundaries that force people to choose may be an
illusion. (At least in some situations.) RunRev has surely erased a lot
of boundaries and it looks like Rodeo is off to a good start in that
area too! Let's enjoy that freedom and not force OS choices. To each his
own OS. Let the goose and the gander each observe the same guidelines of
discussion.

Hopefully these comments will be taken in the positive spirit with which
they are offered. Okay, I'll shut up now and get back to coding!

Best wishes,

Curry

It's a late hour for questions. :-)

But how about the iPhone? I understand focus is on the iPad right now.
But will it, or won't it, if that's possible to say?

Thanks,

Re: more crashes with Rev 3.5 and above?

2010-07-07 Thread Curry Kenworthy

Since moving beyond 3.0, his customers seem to be experiencing
a lot more app unexpectedly quit crashes.

I've had some crashes and lock-ups with Rev 4.0 Mac, not sure what all
patterns. (Rev 4.0 Win is rock-solid.) If you have problems for that
standalone you might go back to the 3.0 or 3.5 engine temporarily, then
move back up at the next Rev update. File format compatibility between
versions is great, isn't it!

Re: [ANN] MS Word Import Mac/Win: WordLib 1.3

2010-04-24 Thread Curry Kenworthy

Do you also have a lib that does it the other way round? Write in a Text
field and export as an office document of my choice?

Thanks Malte. Yes, I have another library called WordOut, currently in
beta and coming soon, which exports text from a field with a single
command.

Re: [ANN] MS Word Import Mac/Win: WordLib 1.3

2010-04-24 Thread Curry Kenworthy

When saving an app that uses WordLib as a standalone, is there a
requirement to distribute the library as a support file or will it
automatically be included in the executable file?

Thanks! It won't be automatically included by the standalone maker, but it
is easy to distribute with your application and there is example code for
that. Let me know if you need any help.

Best,

Maybe you will sell both in a bundle for a special price? ;-)
 Matthias

Good idea, however, I would like to reward early adopters with the best
deal. So here's my special: anyone who orders WordLib before the release
of WordOut will get a $20 coupon for WordOut.

When WordOut is released, this offer ends, so order now for the best
price. :-)

[ANN] MS Word Import Mac/Win: WordLib 1.3

2010-04-23 Thread Curry Kenworthy

Howdy Folks,

I happy to announce WordLib 1.3, a comprehensive solution for MS Word and
OpenOffice document import. With a single command you can import a
document to a field. (And there are more options under the hood for
advanced users.) You can also store documents inside stacks.

This is the real thing--text borders, highlights, images, links,
footnotes, tables--it's all there! (Even down to the Roman numerals for
notes.) The high-quality file translation for modern document formats is
written in pure native RunRev scripting code for maximum power and
compatibility.

File types include extensive support for .docx (Word 2007), .odt
(OpenOffice), and .xml (Word 2003), along with basic support for .doc
(legacy Word).

This version adds Mac support, and Windows is also fully supported. (It
hasn't been tested on Linux.) More nifty features and file formats are
planned, of course, so I appreciate your support of the project, and the
more registered users I have, the more I will be adding to the library.

This is the import library. For those interested in Word and OpenOffice
*export*, that's WordOut, which is in Beta and will be coming out soon!

A download page link is below. Unzip the package and open the Try WordLib
stack in Rev to get started. Enjoy! And feel free to contact me with any
comments and suggestions.

(Current registered users *don't* need to register again for this update.)

MS Word document export

2010-01-25 Thread Curry Kenworthy

Howdy RunRevvers,

I'm cooking up a library to export Revolution text fields to MS Word and
Open Office documents. There will be Excel spreadsheet support too.

If you would like to try a beta of the Word export in a few days, let me
know off-list and mention whether you use Windows and/or Mac.

Thanks,

Re: See us on MacWorld and Macnn

2009-07-24 Thread Curry Kenworthy
The second article kept referring to the product as Revolution -
a very bad thing. Let me be my usual blunt self: this product can
not be taken seriously with the name Revolution!

I have to say that I've always liked the name Revolution. It's unique. I
always verbally and mentally call the product Revolution. I search the
web for runrev because that's the easiest way that returns relevant
results, and also use RunRev as an abbreviation for the company in
writing. I abbreviate the product as Rev when writing it down
repeatedly, such as in an e-mail.

For me, these are simply different variations adapted for different uses;
searching for runrev or writing about Rev doesn't mean I don't like
Revolution. So I don't see anything wrong with using either Revolution
or RunRev. Then again, I'm not swayed much by social trends. I just like
what I like. If using one term over another increases revenue then so be
it.

Anyway, congrats Heather and Rev team on the press coverage!

Thanks, Revolution!

2008-09-13 Thread Curry Kenworthy

The new pricing system is an exciting development. I just wanted to pipe
up and say thanks for that one.

I haven't tried 3.0 yet, but I've used tools very similar to the new
script editor debugging system as depicted in the info page, and I think
that's a real step forward too.

Best wishes,

Re: Undos (vs. text alignment) [was: Script Editor]

2008-05-24 Thread Curry Kenworthy
I wonder how one would implement unlimited undos in
Runtime Revolution?

I would be happy to provide an unlimited undo add-on that works
anywhere--regular fields or script editor.

I've already committed myself to a text alignment add-on which will allow
users to align paragraphs of text freely, left/right/center, just like in
a word processor.

I can do both projects if there is also demand for an undo solution, but I
want to ask the Rev community: which is needed more urgently? Which should
I prioritize? I would love to hear from some of you to judge interest.

Best wishes,

Curry Kenworthy
