Re: Plugin/Lib Structure

2006-08-28 Thread Sean Shao
I know that the limits were good to have back in the old free version days
of Rev / MetaCard, but since it's been a long time since there's been
anything of the sort why are still limited to the amount of stacks that we
can load (library, frontscript, backscript, etc) as well as the length of a
script that we can assign to a control in a compiled app?

I don't know if you can filter based on the actual filename, but would it be
possible for you to use your own file type / extension? If you do need the
filtering on a filename I'm thinking you'd have to roll your own dialog..

Re: HTML email from Rev

2006-08-19 Thread Sean Shao
Dave, take a look at Email Encode Library that will encode data into a
properly formatted email message (including file attachments and inline
images). To send email from directly within Rev look at SMTP Library.

Email Encode and SMTP Library can be found at:
http://shaosean.wehostmacs.com/downloads.html

Sarah also has a SMTP LIbrary for download at her site:
http://www.troz.net/Rev/libraries.php

Hope that helps,

[TIP] systemWindow and windowShape properties

2006-08-19 Thread Sean Shao
I don't remember seeing anything posted about this on the list, so I thought
I'd share my frustration with you all ;-)

You need to set the windowShape property before the systemWindow
property (and the shadow property).. It seems that if you set the
windowShape property after it resets those properties.. *sigh* Anyways,
thought I'd share that to save someone else a few hours of tracking down why
it doesn't work properly..

As far as I can tell, Rev can't communicate directly with the hard disk

On a slightly related note, I created a library that will create dynamically

so long

2006-04-02 Thread Sean Shao
well it's been fun but i can't keep wasting valuable resources trying to get
the database features of rev to work.. for all my bragging about rev and
it's ease of use and how it'll make this project so much better than doing
it as a web-based app, i've basically had enough..

rev.. do you guys even bother to do beta testing?! if so, you could stand to
do a lot more.. if not, i'm more than willing to do testing (for free even)
and have ample test platforms to ensure that the feature set that you say is
there does work..

i've gone all the way back to rev 2.0.3 and have not been able to get the
database stuff to work in compiled apps for mac os 9.. if anyone has ever
gotten this to work, please contact me (offlist as i'm cancelling my
subscription after this goes through)..

for everyone who is testing anything for me, consider it in the public
domain from this point forward.. i will attempt to finish up any
outstanding bugs and features, but no promises..

This questions gets asked a lot David that I really wish that Rev would just
put it into the IDE/engine instead of the current method that they use (or
have both, choices are always good).

Take a look at one of the following Rev libraries that should be completely
cross-platform:

- libSmtp 2.5.3 by me www.shaosean.tk in the libraries section
- SMTPlibrary by Sarah Troz http://www.troz.net/Rev/libraries.html

Chipp has also made a wrapper library for my library that makes it a bit
easier to use, but limits the functionality..

Re: [?] Mac Classic, 2.6.1, MySQL

2006-03-21 Thread Sean Shao
In regards to the two posts - one from Paul Looney and one from Ruslan
Zasukhin..

PL Do you REALLY need to support OS 9?
Yes.

PL The time and effort you would put into supporting OS 9
That's the great thing about Rev, there's very little extra time and effort
required.

RZ But develop new app for old hardware/OS is not best idea.
Why not?

Even though Apple and Microsoft have stopped supporting certain makes of the
operating system there are still tons of machines out there that run them
and that's still a potential market to make money from.

In my situation I'm trying to use a feature of Rev and that's not working..
It's not through fault of my code, nor because the OS is old, but because of
a screw-up over at Rev.. Will there be a 2.6.2 to address this issue? Nope,
just a forced upgrade to get the functionality promised..

Anyways, I'll try the 2.5 Valentina/MySQL build thing another day when I
have the chance..

[?] Mac Classic, 2.6.1, MySQL

2006-03-20 Thread Sean Shao
I'm working on a small project that needs to run on Mac OS X, Mac Classic
(9.2.2) and Windows and that uses the database library to connect to a MySQL
server. Everything runs fine on OS X and Windows, and it runs fine in the
IDE on Mac Classic.

When I compile a Classic application from the IDE on the Classic Mac the
application crashes on launch with a Type 1001 error.
I've noticed that the MySQL library file from the 2.6.1 Classic IDE is only
244 KiB yet the one that's in my OS X 2.6.1 IDE is over a meg big.
When I replace the MySQL library in the compiled app's folder the
application successfully launches, but I get a Rev DB error Unsupported
database type.

Has anyone successfully made a Classic app using the database library to
connect to a MySQL server, or has everyone moved forward to OS X?

I've tried building the application on two different Mac OS 9.2.2 machines

libraries then I get a unsupported database type..

So as it stands, I'm boned in this department...? I'll try the 2.5 and the

2006-03-17 Thread Sean Shao
In the next few days I will be finishing up development and internal testing
of a custom listbox object and will be needing testers. Information about
the listbox object (and a single screen capture) is available at my website.

The listbox object comes with a visual editor to allow you to place controls
in the row. Controls currently supported are:

- standard buttons
- rectangle buttons
- checkboxes
- radio buttons
- option menus
- label fields
- text fields
- images
- movies (and I guess audio files too)

Other features also include:

- setting the row colour
- setting an alternate colour (ala mac os x)
- setting a mouse enter colour
- setting a selected row colour

Yeah, it just started happening one day for me too.. While it does lock-up
Rev, I've found that a simple CMD-. (CTRL-Pause for Windows users) will
bring it out of being unresponsive (mind you the palette will be cut off but
you can still set your tab stops =)

Re: who provides webring?

2006-01-08 Thread Sean Shao
Yes, after Runtime Revolution Ltd. decided they didn't want to maintain the
ring anymore I volunteered to take over.. No thanks needed as I don't really
have to do too much ;-) If you have a RunRev related website please join up
if you haven't already done so..

Please note though that _anything_ referencing to unitz.ca is no longer
valid (and hasn't been for some time like a couple of years).. For what ever
reason they haven't taken the site down nor closed the email account
*shrug*..

To make sure that you go to the newest site always use the domain redirect
www.shaosean.tk and you can always reach me via email through the email
redirect info AT shaosean DOT tk (it redirects to this hotmail account
which I've had for about 6 years now, if not longer).. So please update any
bookmarks or links on your website ^_^

[preANN] Custom Listbox Object

2005-12-24 Thread Sean Shao
Thought I'd give everyone something to look forward to downloading in the
new year.. ;-)

It's a free-form custom listbox object - you interactively place the
controls to be used in the listbox row. Some features are:

- Multiple control types (buttons, fields, graphics, images, players,
progress bars)

- Has hiliting feedback
- Drag Drop reordering of the list items
- Multiple listboxes on a card
- Graphical Builder to create your listbox row

Watch for more pre-announcements before the end of this year and then watch
for the releases in the new year (as well as a big fun super secret
announcement to tickle everyone's fancy ^_^)

First I'd like to give a big thanks to the guys over at the Chatrev server
for all the help, testing and ideas! *HUGS*

Now, I'd like to offer the members of this list an opportunity to take a
sneak peek at the project we've been working on for the last month or so -
Bug Bondage. It's a bug and feature request tracker geared towards solo or
small groups of developers.

There are two screen captures on the website www.shaosean.tk and it will
be released shortly.

[ANN] libBitwise 1.0.0 Released (short ;-)

2005-12-04 Thread Sean Shao
I've finally finished working on the bitwise math operators and have them
working 100% (hopefully). The library (libBitwise) allows you to do bitwise
operations on 32-bit signed integers. It's fast because it uses the built-in
bit commands (no more bit-by-bit calculations) and some math checks.

** If you've used any of the code I've posted to the list before I'd
recommend to use this code instead as it has been greatly tested, is faster
and more accurate **

[UPD] bitwise math functions (v1.2) -- long post

2005-11-28 Thread Sean Shao
Well after a few more days of working on the bitwise math stuff I finally
have it working.. It's probably not 100% when working outside of 32-bit

I tested against the JavaScript answers and they are identical. Thanks to

[UPD] bitwiseShiftLeft

2005-11-25 Thread Sean Shao
After checking the code from yesterday's posting, I noticed that I was still
using some plain simple RunRev handlers for the shiftLeft bitwise
operator, this would cause it to fail on many occasions.. I've spent the
last 6 hours straight (less a few chatRev breaks) to get code that won't
fail (hopefully ;-) and can handle 32-bit signed integers..

So here is the fix for shiftLeft (I'm working on a shiftRight fix):

function bitwiseShiftLeft p1, p2
 if (p2 = 32) then return p1 * (2 ^ (p2 MOD 32))
 if (p2 = 0) then return p1
 if (p2  32) then
   put baseConvert(p1, 10, 2) into p1
   repeat p2
 put 0 after p1
   end repeat
   return baseConvert(char -32 to -1 of p1, 2, 10)
 end if
end bitwiseShiftLeft

[UPD] bitwise shifts

2005-11-25 Thread Sean Shao
Sorry for the post earlier, but it seems that there's a small error in it..
Here are the 3 fixed bitwise shift operators (shiftLeft (), shiftRight
() and shiftRightZero ()).. Basically there are some integer
combinations that would make the other formulas fail and sometimes the
shiftRightZero would return a negative integer (which is impossible).. So
here are the three corrected functions:

function bitwiseShiftLeft p1, p2
 local tP1Neg
 put (p2 MOD 32) into p2
if (p1 0) then put TRUE into tP1Neg
 if (p2 = 0) then return p1
 put baseConvert(p1, 10, 2) into p1
 repeat p2
   put 0 after p1
 end repeat
 if (tP1Neg) then return 0 - baseConvert(char -32 to -1 of p1, 2, 10)
 else return baseConvert(char -32 to -1 of p1, 2, 10)
end bitwiseShiftLeft

function bitwiseShiftRight p1, p2
 local tP1Neg, tPad
 put (p2 MOD 32) into p2
 if (p2 = 0) then return p1
 if (p1  0) then return trunc(p1 / (2 ^ p2))

 if (abs(p1) = (2^p2)) then return trunc(p1 / (2^ p2))
 else return trunc(p1 / (2 ^ p2)) -1
end bitwiseShiftRight

function bitwiseShiftRightZero p1, p2
 put (p2 MOD 32) into p2
 if (p1  0) then return trunc(p1 / (2 ^ p2))
 #if (p2 = 0) then return p1
 if (p1  0) then
   put baseConvert(bitNot abs(p1) +1, 10, 2) into p1
   repeat p2
 delete char -1 of p1
 put 0 before p1
   end repeat
   return abs(baseConvert(p1, 2, 10))
 end if
end bitwiseShiftRightZero

Re: [UPD] bitwise shifts

2005-11-25 Thread Sean Shao
Thanks again for these functions, and for all the time it must have taken
to figure out what you can do and what you can't.

Not a problem, but I'm learning quickly that I can barely do bit math ;-)
Up until I started working on SHA-1 I never used bit math, but here's to
learning new things =)

Alejandro got me interested in the md4digest function, so I tried it using
your functions, and I'm afraid there is still one problem.

As much as I'd love to say that they're perfect, they're not.. If there's
anyone out there who actually knows about these things and wants to help us
out, please speak up =)

The problem is that 6448964192 is a positive number which has the sign
bit set - i.e. it's larger than a single 32-bit positive integer can hold,
but Rev 2.6.1 uses (I guess??) 64-bit ints if needed (??)

I did more updating of the functions last night, but I didn't feel like
spamming the list with _another_ change so I've decided to work out more of
the functions before posting again.. The functions should check if the data
is signed or not and do the appropriate math.. I'll run your numbers
through and see if I can spot anything that needs to be adjusted..

I'm only on 2.0.3 so I can't even do full 32-bit math let alone 64-bit =/

bitwise Operators

2005-11-24 Thread Sean Shao
Due to the fact that the bitwise operators in RunRev do not work on signed
integers, nor do they have shiftLeft and shiftRight, I decided to write my
own, so here they are.. I'll put them on my website another day.. As always,
these are released into the Public Domain.. Any questions, comments,
suggestions feel free to email me..

All parameters are signed integers (ie. 200, -9, 32)

Documentation errors - bitNot

2005-11-24 Thread Sean Shao

The documentation for bitNot states:

bitNot 1 -- evaluates to 0
bitNot 14 -- in binary: bitNot 1110; evaluates to 0001; converted to 1

Both of those results are incorrect (well in theory they are correct, but
not for 32-bit integers)..

bitNot 1 -- returns 4294967294 (which is -2)
bitNot 14 -- returns 4294967280 (which is -15)

The correct answers are returned using the bitwise operators posted last
night. You can verify all your answers using your web browser and the
following javascript

script type=text/javascript
document.write(~14); // ~ bitNot
/script

2005-11-23 Thread Sean Shao
Well I've stated in the source code that no license is needed from me to use
the libraries, but if anyone feels that I may hinder their commercial
program(s) please note that I won't (I'm not in this to make money, I code
purely for fun)..

2005-11-23 Thread Sean Shao
Alejandro, if you are using Rev 2.5.x or lower, Rev can't do any math with
numbers larger than 0xFFF (7 F's) Rev 2.6 and greater can (I don't know
the limits as I only needed 0x (8 F's)) I'm having similiar
problems with bit math and am looking at rolling my own..

RE: SHA-1 algorithm

2005-11-19 Thread Sean Shao
Has anyone ported the SHA-1 algorithm to xTalk? (see
http://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/SHA-1.html for details)

After getting this message I went and converted the JavaScript code into
Transcript, but due to limitations with v2.0 I can't test it to make certain
that it does work 100%. When I go into work (either on Saturday or Sunday)
I'll test it there

If not, would anyone be willing to port it for $$?

I could use an altBrowser license ;-) but otherwise it'll just end up on my
website as a freebie for everyone to use..

Signatures and quoting

2005-11-17 Thread Sean Shao

BTW, is is really necessary to attach such a long sig to every one of
your emails to this list? I find it irritating and I get the messages
individually. The people who get the digest must find it a major
inconvenience. If your employer insists on such a sig, perhaps you
could use a non-work email address for this list?

As much as big signatures are annoying, what's even more annoying are people
who don't snip them from replies or those people who quote whole messages to
say thanks (and the people who keep quoting the quoted messages should all
be shot).. I get the list in digest mode and some days there are only 3
messages in the digest (and not due to it being a slow day but just people
who can't seem to quote nicely)..

RE: Signatures and quoting

2005-11-17 Thread Sean Shao
No disrespect intended Xavier, but your reply to my message is a perfect
example of what I'm talking about. It had the message headers, the stupid
Hotmail signature and the mailing-list signature quoted.

I'm on the digest mode because there are many topics mentioned on the list
aren't really something I'm interested (mind you there are more interesting
topics than not), but with all the garbage in posted in the message it
makes it very difficult to be able to scan through and find interesting
tid-bits of knowledge and snippets of code (somedays I just look at the
subject list and hit delete).. I wasn't on the digest and I received 40
emails a day that were basically bandwidth wasters I'd probably cancel my
subscription to the list.

Now if only email clients were smart enough to strip the signatures like
they're supposed to ;-)

[ANN] libMsn MSN Revolution 1.0.0 Public Release 2

2005-11-10 Thread Sean Shao
Here's the second public release of my MSN Messenger stuff. When was the
first release? For the programming contest held by BvG. Anyways,

MSN Revolution is a MSN Messenger client written in Runtime Revolution
entirely in Transcript. Currently it can login, get your contact list and
you can chat with contacts. There are features from the first release that
don't work in this release due to the re-write of the API in libMsn.

libMsn is MSPN9 (basically version 9 of the protocol) written entirely in
Transcript. It handles all of the actual communication between your client
and the MSN Service. MSN Revolution is powered by libMsn. Like MSN
Revolution, libMsn is a work in progress and will be updated over time to
add-in the missing feature set.

Re: Trying to return results from a query run on the database

2005-11-02 Thread Sean Shao
Hi Fred, as Trevor pointed out the proper syntax for the revDataFromQuery
function is:

revDataFromQuery([columnDelim],[rowDelim],databaseID,SQLQuery[,varsList])

You'll notice that the first two parameters are optional, but the commas
are not, so you're command should be something like so:

get revDataFromQuery(,, databaseID, SELECT * FROM table)

or:
put revDataFromQuery(TAB,, databaseID, SELECT name, email FROM users
WHERE id=1)

I found in the database project I've been working on, that there is no need
for quotes around the field names, only needed around that data you are
inserting or updating.

Re: revGoUrl POST

2005-10-17 Thread Sean Shao
I don't know how revGoUrl works (never used it) but if you can add HTTP
Header data then you should, in theory, be able to POST data. I can't
remember how it's done, but I did it once before in a program for a client
to admin his online photos (RunRev application talking to PHP files). I can
dig it up if required.

Re: POP with REV ?

2005-10-17 Thread Sean Shao
I understand why you'd initially hope for direct support within Rev - but
given the availability of two excellent Open Source, well supported
alternatives, I don't think it's anything to be concerned about; if
anything, I prefer having the Open Source versions, since it let me build
in a couple of personal variations to the library when I used it.

I'd like to point out something in regards to libPop3 (as well as all the
other libraries I've written to date) - they are in the Public Domain and
not Open Source I do not like the restrictions and licensing needed for
Open Source.

I don't know what the licensing for Sarah's library is, but I'm sure she has
it marked on her website or in the download.

[FIX] libSmtp 2.5.2 bugfix (apologies to the list members)

2005-10-15 Thread Sean Shao
Sorry to post this to the mailing list, but I figure that the majority of
the SMTP library users are subscribed.

In the smtpClose handler the following code is wrong:
if (paramCount() = 1) AND (param(1) is not empty) then
   put param(1) into tCallbackMessage
   put param(2) into tCallbackTarget
 end if

Replace the line:
   put param(2) into tCallbackTarget
with:
put the long id of the target into tCallbackTarget

I'll have the download fixed by Monday. Again, sorry to clutter the mailing
list with this.

[ANN] libGrowl 1.0.0

For anyone who is using Growl www.growl.info and wants to make their Mac
OS X based RunRev programs work with Growl, there is a new library available
to allow you to do so.

The only thing to be added in a future release is checking if the Growl
Preference Pane is installed.
