I guess you didn't follow the latest discussion.
Karaf5 (as the initial intention) changed to Karaf Minho:
https://github.com/apache/karaf-minho
The latest fixes/improvements has been made on Minho (Karaf "runtime"
stays the OSGi runtime).
Can you please try with Minho ?
