Mac updates had an issues that prevented updates. Update requests are
subject to throttling to ensure the download servers to not get
overloaded. We are increasing the chance incrementally responding to
load on our mirrors (right now: 50% chance). This also Windows checks
once a day and being actively notified takes a restart. So there's a
good chance some of your PCs running Windows are not updated. It will
happen eventually however.

  Daniel

As a first step, I've now activated the updater. I see an instant

[owncloud-user] ownCloud Desktop Client 2.2.0 released

2016-05-12 Thread Daniel Molkentin
Hi,

I am happy to announce version 2.2.0 of the ownCloud Desktop Client:
https://owncloud.org/install/#install-clients.

This release contains a few new features: It will now display
notifications from the server in the client window. That
happens for example if a share on a remote host was prepared for a user,
waiting to be accepted by clicking on a button.
We also added support for storing the passwords in Windows Vault and
improved sync performance.

Next to that, we added a lot of improvements such as increased
reliability with USB devices after device weakup, and increased general
reliability.

Find the full ChangeLog at https://owncloud.org/changelog/desktop/

Note: Linux binary packages are still on their way. Please bear with us.

Cheers,
  Daniel

for the ownCloud desktop team

[owncloud-user] ownCloud 2.1.1 RC1 released

2016-01-25 Thread Daniel Molkentin
Hi,

today, we released the first release candidate of ownCloud Client 2.1.1
which
is available on https://owncloud.org/install/#testing-development
(both normal version and testpilot version).

Compared to 2.1.0, we closed 87 issues en-route to this release
candidate
(https://github.com/owncloud/client/issues?q=is%3Aissue+milestone%3A2.1.1-current+is%3Aclosed)
Please give RC1 a good test. If you are afraid of spoiling your
production environment, you can use the testpilot client for that
purpose. It will leave your ownCloud Client data untouched.

There is a ChangeLog available on
https://github.com/owncloud/client/blob/2.1.1-rc1/ChangeLog

As usual let me thank everybody in the community who helped making that
happen by very appreciated contributions

Have fun with the new release and report bugs back in Github.
We're expecting the final release beginning of February.

Cheers,
  Daniel (for the Desktop Team)

Because that's not the logic. It does not discriminate between how many
files are left. It just notices that after a sync run, all files are
gone. This was implemented to protect from user errors on server and
client side, as well as errors in the sync logic. We did not add a
threshold, because there is no useful value (when is it ok? If only 5
files are left? 1? 10? 100?).

There is currently no option to disable this behavior.

Re: [owncloud-user] ownCloud Client Version 2.0.0 Released

There is no such thing as a "1.7.x server backend". We expect generally
users to upgrade the clients within a few months after the release. This
is usually not a problem due to the auto-updater.

We will block old clients version in the forthcoming server releases if
we see it becomes necessary.

[owncloud-user] ownCloud 2.0.0 rc1 released, includes multi account support

2015-08-18 Thread Daniel Molkentin
Hi,

we have just released the first (and hopefully final) release candidate
for ownCloud 2.0.0.

Downloads for Windows, Mac OS X and multiple Linux distributions can be
found at https://owncloud.org/install/#testing-development. For those of
you who want to give 2.0 a try, but do not wish to replace their stable
ownCloud client with a pre-release version, we offer a special
Testpilot version which you can use next to your production instance,
and will not interfere with the syncing of your production ownCloud client.

Compared to beta1, these are the most significant changes:

  * UX improvements (for the multi account UI)
  * Introduce [...] button in account view
  * Accessibility improvements (high contrast schemes)
  * Don't show redundant directory entries in activity log
  * Improve SSL button reliability (work around Qt bug)
  * Remove deleted accounts properly from toolbar
  * File manager integration: Show hidden files as ignored
  * Ignoring hidden files: Fix glitches when migrating from 1.8
  * Show wizard when last account was deleted

More highlights are listed in the ChangeLog below:

  * Add support for multiple accounts (#3084)
  * Do not sync down new big folders from server without users consent
(#3148)
  * Integrate Selective Sync into the default UI
  * OS X: Support native finder integration for 10.10 Yosemite (#2340)
  * Fix situation where client would not reconnect after timeout (#2321)
  * Use SI units for the file sizes
  * Improve progress reporting during sync (better estimations, show all
files, show all bandwidth)
  * Windows: Support paths 255 characters (#57) by using Windows API
instead of POSIX API
  * Windows, OS X: Allow to not sync hidden files (#2086)
  * OS X: Show file name in UI if file has invalid UTF-8 in file name
  * Sharing: Make use of Capability API (#3439)
  * Sharing: Do not allow sharing the root folder (#3495)
  * Sharing: Show thumbnail
  * Client Updater: Check for updates periodically, not only once per
run (#3044)
  * Windows: Remove misleading option to remove sync data (#3461)
  * Windows: Do not provoke AD account locking if password changes (#2186)
  * Windows: Fix installer when installing unprivileged (#2616, #2568)
  * Quota: Only refresh from server when UI is shown
  * SSL Button: Show more information
  * owncloudcmd: Fix --httpproxy (#3465)
  * System proxy: Ask user for credentials if needed
  * Several fixes and performance improvements in the sync engine
  * Network: Try to use SSL session tickets/identifiers. Check the SSL
button to see if they are used.
  * Bandwidth Throttling: Provide automatic limit setting for downloads
(#3084)

Cheers,
  Daniel

 Daniel Molkentin – Fre., 7. August 2015 14:53
 Hi,

we have released the first beta of the desktop client. The big highlight
with this release is the support for multiple accounts as well as the
ability to define a size for folders that need confirmation before the
client will sync them (confirm feature). In addition, 2.0 also support
 long pathes on Windows.

The downloads can be found at

 owncloud.org/install/.

We encourage everyone to test, especially because the multi account
feature, while providing great value, required some pretty significant
changes. Because you never use beta software on production data, we now
provide clients for those who wish to help with giving early feedback,
but wish to leave their primary sync client untouched: the Testpilot
client. Downloads for the Testpilot client are:

 Windows:
 download.owncloud.com/desktop/testing/testpilotcloud-2.0.0.5373beta1-setup.exe

 OS X:
 download.owncloud.com/desktop/testing/ownCloud%20Testpilot%20Edition-2.0.0.2612beta1.pkg

 Linux:
 software.opensuse.org/download.htmlpackage=testpilotcloud-client

(Warning: Adding the repository on Linux will also update your regular
client. While we are working on resolving this issue, please consult
your distributions manuals on how to pin the owncloud-client package)

If you find any issue, please report it to
github.com/owncloud/client/issues and prefix the subject with
[2.0.0b1]. If you know that it has worked before, please add
 [regression].

And finally, this is the full preliminary ChangeLog:

   * OS X: Show file name in UI if file has invalid UTF-8 in file name
   * Sharing: Make use of Capability API (#3439)
   * Sharing: Do not allow sharing the root folder (#3495)
   * Sharing: Show thumbnail
   * Updater: Check for updates periodically, not only once per run
 (#3044)
   * Windows: Remove misleading option to remove sync data (#3461)
   * Windows: Do not provoke AD account locking if password changes
 (#2186)
   * Windows: Fix installer when installing unprivileged (#2616, #2568)
   * Quota: Only refresh from server when UI is shown
   * SSL Button: Show more information
   * owncloudcmd: Fix --httpproxy (#3465)
   * System proxy: Ask user for credentials if needed
   * Windows, OS X: Allow to not sync hidden files (#2086)
   * Several fixes and performance improvements in the sync engine
   * Network: Try to use SSL session tickets/identifiers
   * Bandwidth Throttling: Provide automatic limit setting for downloads
 (#3084)

 Known issues for beta1:

 * The UI still has some rough edges
 * SSL information do not always display reliably (the actual encryption
 is unaffected)
 * The new hidden files is currently broken on Windows
 * Debian 7 and 8 builds are currently broken (OBS issue, will be
 fixed soon)
 * Sharing of files may fail in certain situations.

 Cheers,
Daniel (for the ownCloud client team)

[owncloud-user] ownCloud Client 1.8.4 released

2015-07-13 Thread Daniel Molkentin
Hi,

we have released ownCloud Client 1.8.4 to address a security issue
(CVE-2015-1793,
http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2015-1793) in our
binary packages for Windows and Mac by upgrading to OpenSSL 1.0.2d.
Other than containing this fix, there are no changes in this release.

We recommend to upgrade to 1.8.4. New versions are presently being
distributed through the auto-updater. If you do not wish to wait, or
disabled the auto-updater, please get your update from

https://owncloud.org/install/#install-clients.

Linux users with OpenSSL 1.0.1 or 1.0.2 will receive the security update
through their Linux Distributions security update mechanism, users of
older OpenSSL versions are not affected.

Cheers,
Daniel (for the ownCloud Client team)

[owncloud-user] ownCloud Desktop Client 1.8.1 released

2015-05-07 Thread Daniel Molkentin
Hi,

I am happy to announce the release of ownCloud Desktop Client 1.8.1. This is a
pure bugfix release, and we strongly recommend to update.

Find the downloads at https://staging.owncloud.org/install/#install-clients.

Here are the most important issues we addressed:

1. Should files have disappeared locally (i.e. on the local computer) during
the use of 1.8.0, the files will still be on the server, and upgrading to 1.8.1
will bring them back. This will also mean that after the 1.8.1 installation,
the client take some time (depending on the amount of files downloaded) to
finish its sanity checks. this is expected behaviour.

2. Possible data corruption bug during upload present in all previous releases
(under rare conditions) It was caused by a bug in the 3rd party Qt library. Mac
OS X and Windows packages come with updated libraries, so no further action is
required. On Linux, we have informed Distribution vendors, and they have or are
about to issue updates.

Note: if you are using Linux, watch out for upcoming updates to Qt and make
sure to install them. They fix a possible upload corruption that affects
ownCloud Desktop Client. Windows and Mac OS X ship with a Qt version that have
the respective patches applied.

3. Hibernation problem: After Hibernation, the client would sometimes not
resume operation: This has been fixed.

4. Fix SSL validation problem on Mac OS 10.10.3 caused by the removal of weak
1024 bit root certificates.

Finally, here is the full Changelog:

 * Make operation canceled error a soft error
 * Do not throw an error for files that are scheduled to be removed,
but can not be found on the server. #2919
 * Windows: Reset QNAM to proper function after hibernation. #2899 #2895 #2973
 * Fix argument verification of --confdir #2453
 * Fix a crash when accessing a dangling UploadDevice pointer #2984
 * Add-folder wizard: Make sure there is a scrollbar if folder names
   are too long #2962
 * Add-folder Wizard: Select the newly created folder
 * Activity: Correctly restore column sizes #3005
 * SSL Button: do not crash on empty certificate chain
 * SSL Button: Make menu creation lazy #3007 #2990
 * Lookup system proxy async to avoid hangs #2993 #2802
 * ShareDialog: Some GUI refinements

This makes sure that if a default expiration date is set this is reflected
   in the dialog. #2889

 Hi,

today, we're happy to release the best ownCloud Desktop Client ever to
our community and users! It is ownCloud Client 1.8.0 and it will push
syncing with ownCloud to a new level of performance, stability and
 convenience.

This release brings a new integration into the operating system file
manager. With 1.8.0, there is a new context menu that opens a dialog to
allow the user to create a public link on a synced file. This link can
be forwarded to other users who get access to the file via ownCloud.

Also the clients behavior when syncing files that are opened by other
applications on Windows has greatly been improved. The problems with
file locking some users saw for example with MS office apps were fixed.

Another area of improvements is again performance. With latest ownCloud
servers, the client uses even more parallized requests, now for all kind
of operations. Depending on the synced data structure, this can make a
 huge difference.

All the other changes, improvements and bug-fixes are too hard to count.
Finally, this release received around 700 git commits compared to the
 previous release.

All this is only possible with the powerful and awesome community of
ownClouders. We received a lot of very good contributions through the
GitHub tracker, which helped us to nail down a lot of issues and
 improved the client tremendously.

But this time we'd like to specifically point out the contributions of
Alfie Azelphur Day and Roeland Jago Douma who contributed significant
code bits to the sharing dialog on the client and also some server code.

A great thanks goes out to all of you who helped with this release. It
was a great experience again and it is big fun working with you!

We hope you enjoy 1.8.0! Get it from https://owncloud.org/install/#desktop

Re: [owncloud-user] pb with client and windows 7 icons

 For your information.

The latest version of the Windows Client 1.7.1 ownCloud adds icons
 superimposed folder/shared files.

This new feature adds 8 references in section
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers.

But Windows 7 is limited to 11 references in the number of such icons. And it
turns out that the client TortoiseSVN also occupies a number of references.

Priority for Windows by alphabetical order and ownCloud References starting
with 2 spaces, they will substitute for the TortoiseSVN icons that appear
 more than Windows.

In my case, being more interested in this feature in TortoiseSVN as ownCloud,
I renamed the 8 references OC * 'to' z OC * 'so they repass after TortoiseSVN
references, I' I changed my preference icon display in TortoiseSVN then I
restarted my post and I got the behavior I had before the ownCloud client
 update in v1.7.1.

This is a known issue, but unfortunately we do not have a good solution
to the problem either.

[owncloud-user] ownCloud Desktop Client 1.7.1 released

2014-12-18 Thread Daniel Molkentin
Hi,

we are happy to announce the release of ownCloud Desktop Client 1.7.1, a
bug fix release that brings major improvements for timeout handling, as
well as fixes for syncing multiple folders. Also, Mac OS users that had
issues with SSL/TLS secured connections will see major improvements, as
we now ship the latest OpenSSL with both Windows and Linux clients. This
implies that TLS 1.2 support is available on both platforms. For Linux
users, support of recent TLS version depends on the system version of
OpenSSL. We all hope you enjoy our small holiday present, which we will
try to push out via the updater immediately this time.

The complete ChangeLog is available at
https://owncloud.org/changelog/desktop/.

You can download the release from https://owncloud.org/install/#desktop.

Again, as soon as we were sure nothing major was impacting a broad rollout. For
1.6.0, that was a rather bad memleak.

Also, we had to modify the updater to ensure it does not advertise the update
to Mac OS 10.6 users, since 1.6 now
requires a minimum version of 1.6.

That said, the updater should now advertise 1.6.1.

No, there isn't. Mostly because you first need to figure out how to deal
with conflicts (which can always happen in a two-way-sync-scenario).

I would assume that could be done in the same way conflicts are
handled between client and server now. A conflict copy is created and
it's up to the user to decide what to do with it.

Creating conflict copies is the sole job of the client. The server has
no business in them. So when there is a split brain situation between
the servers, how would a resulting conflict be traced to the two clients
(could also be two web interfaces that cause it btw). It's not that
simple...

[owncloud-user] ownCloud Client 1.6.0 released

2014-06-02 Thread Daniel Molkentin
Hi,Hi,

Today we are releasing ownCloud Client 1.6.0.

1.6.0 is a feature release which improves CPU utilization in several
situations and introduces parallel upload, a feature that will improve
sync performance with the upcoming ownCloud 7. The release also
contains multiple bug fixes and improvements in other areas. I have
summarized this in a blog post written for the beta1 release:

https://daniel.molkentin.net/2014/04/09/owncloud-client-1-6-the-tour/

Builds for Windows, Mac OS X (=10.7) and Linux are available through
http://owncloud.org/sync-clients/. with a test user on your
ownCloud installation.

This release drops support for Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) in order
to be able to use newer API that improves the sync expirience on OS X.

The ChangeLog is available at http://owncloud.org/sync-clients/.

Cheers,
Daniel (for the ownCloud client team)

Yes, known issue. And a false warning, as usual. We ship a new mingw runtime,
and the virus scanners have not quite grasped that yet, so they think they are
helpful by trying their useless heuristics... You can try to notify the AV
vendor, but usually the problem just resolves itself after enough people have
deemed the product safe.

[owncloud-user] ownCloud Client 1.6.0 rc3

2014-05-28 Thread Daniel Molkentin
Hi,

Today we are releasing Release Candidate 3 of ownCloud Client 1.6.0.
RC3 marks the last release candidate before 1.6.0 final, which we hope
to still ship this week.

1.6.0 is a big feature release with significant performance performance
but also in other areas. I have summarized this in a blog post written
for the beta1 release:

https://daniel.molkentin.net/2014/04/09/owncloud-client-1-6-the-tour/

Please test the builds available through
http://owncloud.org/sync-clients/#testing with a test user on your
ownCloud installation.

Your testing is very important because only with that we can keep up
with good quality of the software and further improve it.

The most important changes:

- [Fix] Don't lose files on case-insensitive client filesystems
- Fix a couple of reported crashes
- Bug fixing

Please report bugs to http://github.com/owncloud/mirall/issues after
having carefully checked that it wasn't reported before. Please add the
tag [1.6.0 rc3] tag to new bugs subject line.

Cheers,
 Daniel

 Dear Community,

it's beta time again: Today, we proudly released beta 1 of the next big
release of the ownCloud Desktop Sync Client. The upcoming 1.6.0 will
mainly target on sync performance: Parallel up- and downloads, improved
stat'ing on Windows Platforms and highly optimized sync journal access
code are the highlights of the changelog.

As usual, we like to ask for your help on testing the betas to make sure
that we will have a very good final release.

Please grab the beta builds from
 http://owncloud.org/sync-clients/#testing
and test it on a test account, of course without any critical data!

Please report bugs that you found in our issue tracker on
 http://github.com/owncloud/mirall/issues

Please don't forget to check if it is already reported. Also, if you
reported a bug earlier, please update your report with any new findings
you might have with the new version. Please especially note if the bug
was fixed in the beta, so that we can close it verified.

 Thanks,

I don't have that entry or padlock icon (what do you mean exactly? can you
 send a screenshot pls.?)
Perhaps as idea, to change the green checkmark (tick) into a green padlock
 with a tick?

Your screenshot exhibits a bug: The client claims its disconnected while it's
probably not (or it claims that it's online while its not). Had the UI known it
was connected, you would see the padlock icon. Please file a bug report, I'll
take a look. It would also be nice if you can find out how to reproduce it
(i.e. does it happen to you always, or does it go away after a restart? Does a
disconnect trigger this behavior?)

As for the wizard case: When you enter the URL, it the wizard has not made a
connection yet, and it will issue a warning if the certificate cannot be
trusted. If it has made a connection, you can look up the connection details
after finishing the wizard.

The green pad lock item in the wizard simply simply indicates wether the
connection is attempted in HTTPs, and is meant as a guidance to inexperienced
users.
