Fwd: [NEWS]: We got noticed!!!

2017-05-06 Thread Pierre Smits
Forwarding to user@ to reach a broader audience!

Hi all,

GREAT NEWS

With our release announcement made to announce@a.o. we got noticed by a
researcher from Gartner. He asked following question:

*Hi – can you point me to any organizations using Trafodion who would be
willing to talk about their experiences (anonymized is fine)?*

*And what can you tell me about the incubation status – are you guys
expecting TLP anytime soon?*

While sending the notification to announce@a.o. will have us reaching a
greater audience than just sending it to the general incubatior ml and our
own, this truly an opportunity (when referenced by Gartner in one of their
publications) to get even better recognized by potential adopters. And
potentially increase our contributor growth.

Therefore my request to you all (and please ask your company if your not an
independent contributor):

*Please provide your references (of adopters) that I may forward. *

Of course I will name you/your company too. If you don't want to sent it
via the public list, please sent me a our
private@trafodion.a.o/private@trafodion.incubator.a.o
ml or even directly to me.

Again, this is important for us given our current incubation status. It may
help us move forward. So please help!

Best regards,

Pierre Smits

Re: Trafodion 2.0.1 Sandbox

2016-07-14 Thread Pierre Smits
Hi Amanda,

I finally had the chance to test the new sandbox. It started up just fine.

One minor detail though: the package is all about Trafodion r2.0.1, but the
package is labeled: Trafodion 2.1

Trafodion & ApacheCon EU 2016 in Seville, Spain

2016-07-13 Thread Pierre Smits
Dear Trafodion enthusiast,

As you are no doubt already aware, we will be holding ApacheCon in
Seville, Spain, the week of November 14th, 2016. The call for papers
(CFP) for this event is now open, and will remain open until
September 9th.

The event is divided into two parts, each with its own CFP. The first
part of the event, called Apache Big Data, focuses on Big Data
projects and related technologies.

Website: http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/apache-big-data-europe
CFP:
http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/apache-big-data-europe/program/cfp

The second part, called ApacheCon Europe, focuses on the Apache
Software Foundation as a whole, covering all projects, community
issues, governance, and so on.

Website: http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/apachecon-europe
CFP: http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/apachecon-europe/program/cfp

ApacheCon is the official conference of the Apache Software
Foundation, and is the best place to meet members of your project and
other ASF projects, and strengthen your project's community.

If your organization is interested in sponsoring ApacheCon, contact me
at e...@apache.org ApacheCon is a great place to find the brightest
developers in the world, and experts on a huge range of technologies.

I hope to see you in Seville!

Re: Authentication solution for Trafodion

2016-06-29 Thread Pierre Smits
Hi all,

In order to gather more information about which projects under the umbrella
of the ASF uses Apache Shiro as an authentication, authorisation, etc.
solution within their products, I have reached out to the Shiro community,
as I couldn't easily distill that from their web pages.

I have also executing a search on one of the major search solutions to find
out if 'org.apach.shiro' is referenced in some other products and projects.

I hope to be able to present some results soon, to help this [subject] to
move forward.

I don't see the newer versions either, Not on the page and not in the

Also, kudos regarding already listing our upcoming release (together with

Re: Trafodion 1.3 Sandbox

2016-03-27 Thread Pierre Smits
HI Amanda,

Everything worked out fine. Now I am trying to connect from my mac where
the VirtualBox runs and into which I imported the download.

For this I installed locally the t4driver and SQuirrel SQL client. But I
can't connect to the running VirtualBox instance. Where can I check the
port to connect to?

Best regards,

Pierre Smits

Found it. Using the ambari standard admin login (admin/admin) worked.

Re: Trafodion 1.3 Sandbox

2016-03-27 Thread Pierre Smits
Hi Amanda,

The steps up to #5 worked like a breeze. I used root/traf123 to login.

#6: Open the browser and open Ambari to start all services didn't work.
Starting this requires a userId and password too. So I couldn't continue.
