Re: The Camel Components Poster - PDF - FREE
The velocity component was missing in the Templates section on the Grouped Component List wiki page. I added it yesterday, but I suspect it was consequently missing too from the poster. I can't confirm it now because the latter is no longer accessible, which is a good thing until the trademark issues are resolved ;-) Given that you'll be recognizing the Apache brand properly on the title, does it make sense to explicitly mark those components which aren't Apache-hosted due to licensing issues, to avoid confusion? See the camel-extra repo [1]. A symbol, a greyed-out background or a short text should suffice. I think some of these components are listed in the poster, but not all (you could perhaps even add them all). I can't confirm now due to the reason above. I hope I'm not going overboard with my requests! Re: The Camel Components Poster - PDF - FREE
Thank you for pointing out Velocity being missing. This will have to be added to the next update of the poster. In regards to external components, I included all external components that I was aware of with indirect references in two places (that they are not part of the base Camel distribution)... (1) Bottom left now says: Apache Camel 2.12.1 and external components and (2) external components all have [in [GroupId]] immediately after the ArtifactIds. This should be good enough as indications that the components are external. Followed up to this, the Apache web page of components is on the bottom right where the user of the poster can get additional information if need be: http://camel.apache.org/components.html. Thank you for your observations, information and suggestions. Hi James, I looked at the cover of the Camel in Action book and Apache is not mentioned anywhere: http://www.amazon.com/Camel-Action-Claus-Ibsen/dp/1935182366/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8qid=1380838736sr=8-1keywords=camel+in+action So, I figured that the approach I took with the title of the poster was okay, The Camel Components Poster. I do mention Apache in a few places on the poster... (1) Bottom left: Camel Components (Apache and External) (2) Bottom right: http://camel.apache.org/components.html (3) In some of the descriptions: e.g. Apache ServiceMix. I can update the poster anyway that is appropriate, please just let me know exactly what to do, and I will do it. Since I will be doing updates to this poster, if anyone else sees any issues on it, please let me know... For example, -- Are there missing components? -- Did I group the components improperly, if so, how can I improve the groupings? -- Are any of the descriptions incomplete or poorly worded? -- Can anyone offer a better Format URI for any components? -- Any trademark issues -- etc. Either post here are email me at Robert at gliesian dot com. Note: Another option... this was done in Adobe InDesign... I could just give the associated files to the Camel project to be checked in to version control for their own maintenance (with each build)... but I'm not sure how efficient the product would be In regards to making new physical versions available for purchase. Any thoughts let me know. I guess the goals are (1) to keep the poster up to date and (2) make it easily available to the user community in both PDF and physical form. Hi Robert! Thanks for your good work. We appreciate it. It looks really cool and I think this poster provides a good overview which components do we have in each particular area. As outlined in [1] and mentioned by James, you should - refer to The Apache Camel Components Poster instead of The Camel Components Poster Thanks for your cooperation and willing to update the poster. I don't think it's an issue to have the GLIESIAN, LLC. whatermark and footer, but prefer to have the trademarks ok. Therefore, I also put trademarks@ in CC to request their permission that you can publish/sell this poster [2] after the mentioned update. That means the title (either graphically in the display, or the window title in a PDF viewer, whatever) should include Apache Camel wherever practical. Beyond that, this looks like a great poster; I wasn't even aware of how many different direct integration points are already out there! Since this is clearly educational materials, a cheatsheet, or additional documentation about Apache Camel and related software that goes above and beyond what the camel.apache.org website provides as normal documentation, it's perfectly appropriate to include a footer or other Created by attribution for whoever does the work to create this. So the logo in the footer is fine, especially because it's not directly with the Camel name or logo. It's certainly appropriate for your company to get credit for the design! As a volunteer-run public charity that produces software for the public good, we need to ensure that our trademarks are respected, especially by software vendors of all stripes. However outside individuals and companies producing extra educational materials about Apache software - like training, books, and cool API docs like this - can help users to find out about and make use of Apache software, which is a benefit to everyone. As long as our brands are respected, we definitely appreciate the work people do like this. Thanks, - Shane Curcuru VP, Brand Management On 10/4/13 5:00 PM, Christian Müller wrote: Hi Robert! Re: The Camel Components Poster - PDF - FREE
Oh, you are welcome. :) So... I ran a contest on 99Designs... this vehicle cost me ~ $339 (for the contest and extra advertising, trying to get designers). After the contest completed, I made the PDF available for free, as my goals are not to profit off of the electronic version, but to try and break even on the physical version... but I actually really doubt if I will every break even on it. I haven't figured out how to get a ~ $10 poster version of it on the market yet, but in the interim, I set up a page on Fine Art America: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/the-camel-components-poster-robert-liguori.html to make a 36x24 inch poster available. But because of how that site works, the product is very expensive: $ 66.00. For myself, I did order two from a printing website for $70.29. Note that I did this effort to learn about the Camel components at 30,000 feet and to help evangelize the product, as it is so useful. But if anyone wants to buy the poster from fineartamerica.com (noted above)... it's a nice product and will help me get some of the money back that I put in for creating it. Or you could just take the PDF I have provided (with the watermark), and print your own through a printing web site (like I did), you'll save at least 1/3 of the cost. ... or just wait to see if I can figure out how to get the poster out at an affordable cost, but in reality, this may never happen. So, enjoy the free PDF version: http://gliesian.com/camel/TheCamelComponentPosterWithWatermark.pdf And happy Camel riding!
