How about we start with what platform and what version of CloudStack.

Also - your agent.log timestamp and management server log timestamps
have a 30 minute skew, and the management server logs are remotely
related to adding an agent - can we see the actual time period that
you tried to add a host - preferably several hundred lines -
apaste.info that and share a link.

Re: problem with secondary storage: There is no secondary storage VM for secondary storage host

2013-06-04 Thread Javier Rodriguez

Geoff,

Pod1 is using IPs in the subnet 172.16.0.0/16 its using the private
range 172.16.10.0 - 172.16.10.255 (add pod screen) and public range
172.16.20.0 - 172.16.20.255 (add guest network screen). In both cases
the gateway is 172.16.0.1 which is the same gateway shared by the
machines where cloudstack is being deployed.

I just realized that I was trying to access the ssvm from the wrong
machine (manager instead of hypervisor node). I managed to access it
using the LinkLocal ip (169.254.0.8 in my case).

It looks like I cant ping any machine from 172.16.0.0/16 from the ssvm,
apart from ips from the other system vm, not even the gateway, this
causes the ssvm-check.sh script to fail when pinging the dns server (in
my case 192.168.1.204, routed through 172.16.0.1 ).

The ssvm therefore wont be able to mount the secondary storage as it is
located in //172.16.2.2/export/secondary.

I tried switching off the firewall in the host and in the ssvm ( service
iptables stop for the host, service iptables-persistent stop for the
ssvm ), but I still couldnt ping the gateway, which i can ping from the
hypervisor.

Here's the routing table in the ssvm:

192.168.1.204 via 172.16.0.1 dev eth1
172.16.0.0/16 dev eth1 proto kernel scope link src 172.16.10.29
172.16.0.0/16 dev eth2 proto kernel scope link src 172.16.20.101
172.16.0.0/16 dev eth3 proto kernel scope link src 172.16.10.156
169.254.0.0/16 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 169.254.0.8
default via 172.16.0.1 dev eth2

Any idea on how to make the ssvm access external ips in the subnet?

Regards,

Hi Geoff,

Sorry, I'm a bit confused. I didn't specifically configure the Management
Network range, I just followed the steps in the quick install guide (
http://cloudstack.apache.org/docs/en-US/Apache_CloudStack/4.0.2/html/Quick_Install_Guide/index.html),
both the system vms and the guest vms have different ranges configured within
the zone, but it does not mention any further post-config action on the
management network range.

In the example, the hypervisor node and the management server belong to the
same class C network (172.16.10.0/24) and In my configuration they belong to
the same class B network ( 172.16.0.0/16 ), other than that I think i've
followed step by step what is described in that document.

Do I need to move the Management Network to another subnet? is that preventing
the secondary storage host from finding the secondary storage?

Thanks very much for your help.

Hadoop cluster running in cloudstack

2013-06-04 Thread David Ortiz
Hello,
Has anyone tried running a hadoop cluster in a cloudstack environment? I
have set one up, but I am finding that I am having some IO contention between
slave nodes on each host since they all share one local storage pool. As I
understand it, there is not currently a method for using multiple local storage
pools with VMs through cloudstack. Has anyone found a workaround for this by
any chance?
Thanks, David Ortiz

Re: Hadoop cluster running in cloudstack

2013-06-04 Thread Andrew Bayer
This is a very interesting question - I know I've asked for better control
over where VMs end up going, specifically to be able to ensure rack
locality for Hadoop nodes, but I don't know what the progress has been on
that, nor do I know whether there's a way of doing multiple storage pools
on a single host short of some really silly jumping through hoops, like
running multiple cloud agents on a single host. But I could be wrong - I'm
not as in touch with the internals as others may be.

Re: issue with system vm templates

2013-06-04 Thread Ove Ewerlid

Jason, locking at this issue one can see;

 - No SSVM is running (I know you know this)
 - Two systemVM templates are in DOWNLOAD_ERROR state
  (mysql select * from cloud.template_host_ref;)

so there is no way to start the SSVM. The content of the secondary
storage appears intact, but installing the systemvm template using
cloud-install-sys-tmplt again makes sure there are no issues there.

Since this is a KVM, system, fixing the KVM system template first should
enable SSVM to start but this is not happening. The logs indicate that
the VMWARE template prevents this (the search finds this first and
decides to not continue).

Fixing the VMWARE template as well solves the problem and the manager
can spin up the SSVM and console proxy.

The logs indicate there have been 100% capacity on the secondary storage
so some issues there caused the SSVM to try to redownload the system vm
templates. I believe you said you destroyed the SSVM which means the
SSVM can not recover (for your config to allow the SSVM to recover you
need to set the SSVM proxy, but you should rather use URL that does not
require proxy in the first place).

Pasted in the script used to fixup the DB. NB; important to check the ID
mapping between vm_template and template_host_ref. Stop the manager when
using a script like this.
