Re: Issue with Upgrade from 4.7.1 to 4.11

2018-06-04 Thread Osay Osman Yuuni
Thanks again Paul. You were spot on. First of all the
'cloudstack-management' file in '/etc/default' had a datestamp of 2016.
After overwriting the file with one I extracted from the
cloudstack-management 4.11 rpm my ACS installation started up fine. Glad
this is being fixed in 4.11.1.
Cheers
Osay

Virtual Router Missing - 4.5.2 and Xenserver 6.5

2016-01-21 Thread Osay Osman Yuuni
Hi all,
I have a very bizarre situation with my CS installation. I restarted the
CS management server and now the VR is stopped in the infrastructure. When
I start it, it dies and I get the following notifications:

Insufficient capacity to restart VM, name: r-96-VM, id: 96 which was
running on host name: cloudsrv1.afdb.org(id:10), availability zone:
DEVZONE, pod: DEV_POD
and

An out of band migration of router
r-96-VM(1f0fe028-f20b-41ed-a125-d5d7e63c9595) was detected. No automated
action was performed.
I've tried to recreate the VR by destroying it and restarting the network
with clean=false but this does not resolve the issue. I've tried
reinstalling the system template but again no show. I moved the
systemvm.iso and tried reinstalling the system template but this does not
recreate the systemvm.iso file.

I'm now stuck with the system sending me notifications regularly about
insufficient capacity and out of band migration.

Please help if you have seen this before or have a suggestion.

Below is a snippet of relevant log from the management server.

Hi,
Something bizarre is happening to my CS installation. I restarted the CS
management server and now the VR is stopped in the infrastructure. When I
start it, it dies. In the log I find the following:

Strange ACS 4.30 to 4.5.2 upgrade Issue

2015-09-04 Thread Osay Osman Yuuni
Hi friends,
I'm having a very strange upgrade issue which I was wondering if anyone has
encountered and whether someone can catch what is wrong. Basically I
follow the steps outlined in the docs to the letter. When I restart the MS
service it gets stuck at running the DB upgrade scripts. I checked
catalina.out and noticed that the schema-430to440.sql script is trying to
create tables that already exist or insert columns that already exit.

I commented out all the lines causing the issue and then restart the MS
service but then I get a new error about the Listener. After Googling this
error the only hints I got were about system templates but I made sure the
new system template was installed before attempting the upgrade. I've
repeated this no less than five time with the very same results. I'm
miffed.

Below is a snippet of the catalina.out log with the error. Can anyone spot
the issue?

TIA
Osay

Thanks James. I've checked the table and the template exists. I'm still
investigating though.

Hi Seb,
I was an active tester for this pull request. Been quite a long time that
anything has been done with it. Unfortunately I'm not a developer and
can't step in. Hope we get someone to finish this off. Really exciting as
you say.

The exoscale driver was recently merged in Docker machine.

There is an oustdanding pull request for a more generic cloudstack driver:

Sander who originally made the PR has no cycles right now to finish it.

So that's an open door for someone to step in, write some Go and get
 cloudstack supported in Docker machine.

 Exciting stuff….

Re: Thoughts on CloudStack while starting as new VP

2015-03-23 Thread Osay Osman Yuuni
First of all congratulations on your appointment. It is ample recognition
for your work at the project. I'm delighted with the passion in this
piece. I for one think you're on the right path. It is frustrating to
note that everyone who's sat at this table has gotten up filled and content
yet when one looks at the internet there's so little on Cloudstack. Kind
of reminds me of Novell, good products but poor visibility. I've followed
with interest the latest developments in infrastructure ala Docker,
kubernetes and CoreOS and every time Cloudstack is last to be served,
thanks to efforts from yourself and other colleagues whose passion for the
project makes you go the extra mile to bring these into the Cloudstack
sphere.

The experience of being last to the table is set to change with this well
thought out plan. I hope the community will take this in their stride so
that Cloudstack will bring cloud enthusiast salivating to dine at. Let the
UX gurus come out with a UI that will make ACS stand out and friends with
Kubernetes and CoreOS experience factor in some goodies to help ACS take
the next logical step away from IaaS. As for configuration management
there have been really good work done by the community but as Seb says, it
all needs to be tied into the ecosystem to make them an integral part of
ACS. The product is already easy enough to deploy and use but I think
these tools could make it even easier to manage.

Kudos Seb.

Dear members of the CloudStack community,

Last week the Apache Software Foundation board unanimously voted a
resolution to make me the new VP of Apache CloudStack. This came after a
unanimous vote of the CloudStack PMC and is regular process of our
community as described in our bylaws.

I am excited to take on this new role after two amazing VP (Chip and Hugo)
since CloudStack came to the ASF. Many thanks to them and especially Hugo
for the work he has done in the past year.

The ASF is setup so that the governance of a project really belongs to the
community itself. CloudStack is what we all make it to be, we all have
equal footing when time comes to develop the code, create events, take
decisions and so on. As VP I do not have a special say in our direction.
This governance model is in stark contrast with other open source project
that follow more of a benevolent dictator model. I mention this as a bit of
disclaimer and to re-enforce the fact that while I have views about what we
should do, they are my personal views and that they do not represent any
sorts of official roadmaps, and that anyone is welcome to disagree :)

In Budapest, we had a great conference. Chip and I showed several
CloudStack use cases. Our user base is strong with over 300 production
deployments. Our community is large and diverse with 2000 people on the
mailing lists, but we need to keep advocating for CloudStack, make it an
even greater software and grow our community. At the very least this helps
us learn from each other, better our own skills and our employers IT
infrastructure. At the very best AWS switches to CloudStack :)

So here are some food for thoughts that will hopefully excite you, want to
get engage, talk about CloudStack and bring on board your friends:

 On the code:
 -
 - Keep improving quality, remove dead code, cleanup JIRA, cleanup Review
 Board
We have successfully moved to GitHub pull requests, we should stop using RB
 - Simplify the dev process and adopt a new committing system to avoid
 regressions at all costs.
We have talked about this for a long time but have failed had doing
 something concrete. It is time.
 - Remove the AWSAPI (there is a branch without it right now), we should
 merge it in master
I am going to push for IP clearance of ec2stack and gstack to get them
 under ASF governance.
 - Several Cloud Providers have unveiled new CloudStack UI, maybe it’s time
 we do the same.
 - Solidify the testing infrastructure, keep Jenkins builds running
 - Brainstorm on the future of CloudStack and IaaS in general. What should
CloudStack be in 10 years ?
While CloudStack is what it is now, nothing prevents us to re-architect,
re-think, re-code it within the current framework.
 - Finally, package the mgt server and the KVM agent as Docker containers
Docker is a great portability mechanism. We should embrace Docker as a
packaging tool (first) and provide container images for our mgt server (at
 a minimum).
This could become a type of release artifact that could be easily
 continuously built.

 On the ecosystem:
 -
We have a really strong ecosystem. From configuration management tools,
 API wrappers, PaaS plugins etc.
We need to feature our ecosystem clearly on our website, support it and
keep on growing it as new technologies emerge.

 Things that come to mind:
 - Push to get our Ansible module into the Ansible core
 - Publish

 Hi,

My virtual router isn't resolving both local and public names though I
configured local DNS1 and DNS2 to point to my local DNS server. Instances
have resolv.conf showing the VR interface as DNS1 and a public IP as DNS2.
I'm not sure what is going on. I have to change the resolv.conf on the

 Any clues?

one of the coreos instances I created. I remember successfully running
this on a CentOS 6.6 VM on which I installed Docker. Seems very wierd
though.

TIA

What I needed to do in order to get it working is convert the

QCOW2 (I
use KVM).

After that I have registered the template with SSH key enabled
(You
can also
enable this feature in the DB if you would like to avoid
re-downloading the
template).

Once an instance was created with one of my ssh keys, I could
login
via ssh as
core@IP with the said keypair.
The template has also nicely expanded to fit my custom root
disk size.

For future convenience I've added a daily jenkins job to build

Osay,

You need to check the documentation on how to install your
ssh keys
into the
template. Once you've done this, you should be able to login
with ssh
keys.
I've done this once about 6 months back and it worked
perfectly well.

I think the coreos is works much better with openstack as it
integrates well
with the environment and automatically get's the user keys
from
openstack. So,
you don't have to mess about the recreating the template. I
think
similar is
done for major cloud providers like amazon and rackspace,
etc.

ACS 4.4.1 Creation of VM instance fails, Wierd template issues

2014-11-13 Thread Osay Osman Yuuni
Hi all,

I'm not sure if this has already been answered on here but I'm having
issues with creating VMs on ACS 4.4.1. When I register a template it
resgisters successfully, downloads and installs the template. However when
I try to create an instance based on the template it fails. In the log, it
shows it can't find the template in the secondary storage. When I look in
the seondary storage location I find two VHDs with the same size but
different names. The template.properties file shows the name of one of the
VHDs with its unique name.

I'm not sure why it's creating two VHDs or why it is returing an error
about not finding the VDI in the secondary storage location. I have
cleaned out all the templates and re-registered them but still not show.

I don't know where to look now. Any pointers will be much appreciated.

ACS 4.4.1 release version download from
http://cloudstack.apt-get.eu/rhel/4.4/.
Using community version of Mysql Database server version 5.6.21-2, java and
tomcat installed as dependencies when installing cloud-client.

Hi Mohammed,
I'd be interested to know why you think Cloudstack is waiting our time? Do
you have any specific issues that need addressing that you could not? By
Cloudstack who do you actually mean? The contributors, users, governance?
Unless you're able to tell us what makes you think Cloudstack is wasting
our times I'm afraid I don't see how we can agree with you.

Public Network Question

2014-10-30 Thread Osay Osman Yuuni
Hi,
I'm setting up an advanced zone on ACS 4.3 but have hit a block with the
public network. Our setup is as follows:

Internet -- FW-L2/L3 switch---ACS management
 XS62 hosts (192.168.44.x)
196.5.20.x/24|-Public
network (192.168.77.x)

|-Guest (192.168.33.x)

My problem is that I our secrurity chaps say they can't NAT the 196.5.20.x
IPs to the the 192.168.77.x network so that clients from the Internet can
access their VMs. How do I configure this in ACS so that clients can use
one of the 196.5.20.x IPs to access VMs?

Any ideas will be much welcome.

Kind regards,

Osay

Re: [DISCUSS] CloudStack Future

2014-09-18 Thread Osay Osman Yuuni
Nice going guys. One of the reasons we're using CS at moment is the ease
of deployment (at least with a basic zone). On the other hand we note that
we need an addon to do things like service catalogs, metering and
charging. Though the APIs make it possible to develop such portals would
like to see a module in the UI allowing for creation of catalogs and
display of metering output.

VM will no longer start

2014-09-15 Thread Osay Osman Yuuni
Hi,
I'm having a problem with one of my VMs after a power outage and primary
storage NFS server dropping. I restarted the XS 6.2 hosts and had issues
reconnecting the NFS server. So I did a forget and then recreated the
SR. Thereafter I could see all the VDIs. In CS GUI I can see the volumes
and they're all marked ready. However when I try starting the VMs one
particular VM ( a Windows 2012 R2 server) fails to start. I have checked
to make sure the VDI appears in the NFS share but still it's failing. The
database shows the VDI is still in the table and has a status of up. I
constantly get this error about invalid uuid and don't know how to fix
this. What I noticed in the logs is the fact that CS says it's creating a
VM with a uuid for the VM but the uuid that it's creating for the VM is
different from the actual uuid of the VM both in the GUI and the database.
Is this normal? The relevant log snippet is below. I hope someone can spot
where the issue is.

Kind regards,

Move VM instances from default view to a Project

2014-08-12 Thread Osay Osman Yuuni
Hi,
Is there a way to move VMs from the default view to a project that I
created? These VMs were created in the default view and now I want them in
a project so that the accounts in that project can manipulate them. I
can't see anything in the GUI that can be used. Is there a command line
way of doing this?

TIA

Thanks all. And I agree fully that direct DB manipulation should not be
attempted.

 I agree with Alena,

Just because we can, does not mean we should.

Whilst I originally worked out how to do it via direct DB updating, if
this feature is required, a Feature Request should be submitted.

DB hacking is not something we should recommend to the customers/users, as
its bugs prone. Plus the procedure is not consistent across releases due to
 possible DB changes.

If the customers need this feature, they should file an enhancement
request, so its implemented on the CS the correct way.

 Thanks,

Yes there is no such API but earlier I saw the similar requirement and was
done with some DB manual operations

Re: Using IBM powerVM

2014-07-08 Thread Osay Osman Yuuni
With the Power8 system they're introducing PowerKVM as hypervisor to run
their PowerLinux. You may want to discuss with IBM some migration routes.
I believe ACS should eventually support PowerKVM.

Cheers,

Instantiated CentOS VMs shutting down

2014-03-24 Thread Osay Osman Yuuni
Hi,
I have a CS 4.2.1 installed with XCP 6.1 as hypervisor. I have various
templates (windows 2k12R2, CentOS 6.3, CentOS 6.5, Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS).
I'm able to instantiate windows and Ubuntu VMs without issues but when I
instantiate the CentOS 6.3 or 6.5 VMs they just die. The VM appears in the
hypervisor and after about a minute it disappears. In the management
server GUI the VM is stopped. When I restart it, it starts but after about
a minute it stops again. I've combed through the management server log but
am unable to pin down what is causing this to happen. Is it that CentOS 6
is unsupported (the default 5.6 template can be instantiated without
issues).

Below is a snippet of the management server log. The only issue I see is
the error cannot bridge firewall, which to be honest, I don't
understand. Perhaps the more seasoned users can point out something that's
obviously causing the VM to stop?

Re: Not able to download CentOS template

2014-03-24 Thread Osay Osman Yuuni
Try redownloading the template as per the documentation. Don't forget to
use the -F to force the download. Ensure that the template is successfully
installed (output of the command to install the template). Check
SECSTORAGE/template/tmpl/1/ to see whether the template exists (should be
the uuid of the template with a .vhd extension). There should also be a
template.properties file in there.

You can also check the through the management server GUI to see the status
of the template by clicking on it. If it does not say ready then there
must be something wrong with your secondary storage.

I've tried it snd it's not worked for me. You're better off with XCP 1.6.

Since the release of CS 4.2.1 is XenServer 6.2 supported?

In the install docs all I see is support up to version 6.0.2.

Thanks. The documentation needs to be updated. It's confusing when they
say On the storage server .

Issue with Instance

2014-03-20 Thread Osay Osman Yuuni
Hi,

I've instantiated a template and in the web UI I see it's running. When I
try launching the console I get in the console window the following error
Access is denied for the console session. Please close the window and
retry later. When I look at the vm through XenCenter I see that it's
stopped. A few seconds later I see that it's stopped in the web UI as
well. The following log snippet is from the management-server log. Can
anyone spot why this is happening?

I'm using XCP 1.6 as hypervisor.

Re: Issue with Instance

2014-03-20 Thread Osay Osman Yuuni
Thanks Suresh.

The output of the above command is openvswitch.

It looks to be something to do with the template used for the
instantiation. When I instantiate using the default CentOS 5.6 template it
works. I've tried two other templates, one Windows 2012 R2 and the other
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and both stay up and am able to log into the console.
However when I instantiate on a CentOS 6.3 template the resulting VM does
not stay up. The reason for the console error is because the VM shuts down
after a minute or so. I'm going to prepare new templates to try again.
Same issue with VMs instantiated on RedHat 6.3 template.

Thanks.
