I think it will take me quite a while before understanding what's wrong with my conf.

(sorry for this > newbee question) Frank, you must install it from source via the Pkgscrc system. Do this on commands line as root *after* you've installed pkgsrc: echo 'ACCEPTABLE_LICENSES+=ms-ttf-license' >> /usr/pkg/etc/mk.conf cd /usr/pkgsrc/fonts/ms-ttf/ bmake install clean You should become familiar with Pkgsrc, because there are not binaries for every package. The binaries on ftp://packages.stura.uni-rostock.de are compiled packages from Pkgsrc. You could have a look here: http://wiki.dragonflybsd.org/index.cgi/HowToPkgsrc?highlight=%28HowTo%29 and here: http://www.netbsd.org/Documentation/software/packages.html . If you have more questions about Pkgsrc, please ask ;-) Thomas

All of the other posters gave you correct advice, but I want to emphasize the important points: First, as Thomas said, Welcome to the DragonFly project. Second, as Jeremy said, you should install the fonts/ms-ttf (TrueTypeFont) package to fix the ugly-font problem. This will pull in other packages, like ttmkfdir and cabextract. Follow the instructions you will see at the end of the package installation. This is important. If number two doesn't help, ask us again.

Frank, I might be wrong, but I think CID are Russian fonts. It's probably safe to ignore that message unless you need those fonts. If you don't need those fonts and the warning annoys you, then you can comment out that line in the Xorg config file. I also get that other warning, although I have ignored it. I'm not sure why that warning is there. I might also get that warning in FreeBSD, although it's been awhile since I booted my FreeBSD notebook. I had assumed it's an Xorg thing. *shrug* Joey

Simply remove that entry for CID fonts from your xorg.conf configuration. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CID-keyed_font to see if you really need it. > And when Xorg terminates : > "FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/pkg/xorg/lib/X11/fonts/misc/" refcount is 2, should > be 1; fixing." I get that too. And I don't notice any problem beyond that. As far as I know this is not an error. The code is from xserver/dix/dixfonts.c. > Basicaly I seems that Xorg works when I use it along with KDE, but on > some web sites like freedesktop.org some fonts are not displayed > properly. Install more fonts. Configure your system to use your preferred fonts first. Try your KControl font installer. Maybe install Windows True Type fonts (such as pkgsrc/fonts/ms-ttf). Google about this and you will find many webpages about this.
