You mentioned it was mobile.  If you're using android you may want to consider
the following before pursuing this error too much further

   - Developers offering products within another category of app downloaded on
Google Play must use Google Play In-app Billing as the method of payment,
except for the following cases:

   - Payment is solely for physical products
   - Payment is for digital content that may be consumed outside of the app
itself (e.g. songs that can be played on other music players).

https://play.google.com/about/monetization.html

Unless, of course, I misunderstand their TOS

That's good information.  I also have to justify the time to upgrade to the
boss man though :)  Hence the question on security benefits.

 There's a pretty wonderful migration path that should help you decide.

You can compile a Flex 3.6 Application with any Flex 4.x SDK and everything
should work the same as it did before.  Then when you have time you can
migrate parts of the application to take advantage of the Flex 4.x stuff
over time.

Flex 3x vs 4x security

2016-03-08 Thread Matthew Weir
I'm trying to decide if I should take the time to upgrade a very large
application from 3.6 to 4.{stable}.
The main focus is on security and speed advantages.  I'm thinking all the
security stuff that I've seen has all been player based, but what about from
the SDK itself?

Are you adding any of them or removing any via AS3?  Usually that error is
produced when using something like addItemAt or getItemAt and supplying it with
an invalid index.

Re: Flex Advanced data-grid grouping

2016-01-26 Thread Matthew Weir
Hi Angelo,
I can't answer all of your questions.  My experience with advanced datagrid
grouping is that in order for the tree and expansions to work, you need ALL
layers of data in the beginning.  So depending on the amount of data that your
grid encompasses, that may not be very friendly on your database.
What I have done in the past is to create a repeater that looks like a
datagrid. It queries the database for the outermost layer, and then queries
again as each row is expanded, and ONLY if the row is expanded.
Additionally, (this is coming from flex 3 usage so it could have easily
improved since then), if your datagrid has more than one layer of expansion, it
has some very odd glitches after several row openings and collapses.

Twilio may also be an option for you.  It is not flex based in and of itself,
but can allow for things such as MMS, texting, phone calls, etc that can all be

Re: Advanced datagrid row color

2015-09-28 Thread Matthew Weir
You can amend this to an ADG most likely.  I work with Flex 3.6 mostly, so I'm
not sure if it will port to Spark components or not.

public class RowFontColorDataGrid extends DataGrid
    {
        public var rowColorFunction:Function;

        public function RowFontColorDataGrid()
        {
            super();
        }

        override protected function drawRowBackground(s:Sprite, rowIndex:int,
y:Number, height:Number, color:uint, dataIndex:int):void
        {
            if (this.rowColorFunction != null && this.dataProvider != null)
            {
                var item:Object;
                if (dataIndex < dataProvider.length)
                {
                    item = dataProvider[dataIndex];
                }
            }

            if (item)
            {
                color = rowColorFunction(item, rowIndex, dataIndex, color);
            }
            super.drawRowBackground(s, rowIndex, y, height, color, dataIndex);
        }
    }

Then use something like this in place of your current ADG

And this in your script
public function calcRowColor(item:Object, rowIndex:int, dataIndex:int,
color:uint):uint
{
        if (item.hasOwnProperty("Role") && item.Role == "Reviewer")
            return 0xFF;}

                if ( data[col.dataField] != null){
                    if ( data[col.dataField] == "Condition"){
                        return {color:0xFF};

that all of the JavaScript frameworks are basically just meant to try to

there is just so much there and it is so capable.

That's really why there are security updates every few months, because it
almost like it's own operating system in terms of features. So I think of this
kind of thing like I would for OS X or Windows updates. Adobe also seems to be
very fast about this stuff.

What I've also noticed is that there are a small number of websites that have
always attacked Flash and will trumpet this stuff like crazy. I still can't
believe the extent that a lot of Apple people became so religious about going
after Flash and talking up html5 apparently for some sort of ideological reason
(proprietary yada yada).

My understanding is that these updates actually roll out very fast and in very
high numbers when they do. Plus I think they are rolled into some of the
browsers now too so it's probably automatic.

If it is Flex, I think the last SDK I compiled it against was 4.12.  Will

Re: [ANNOUNCEMENT] Apache Flex TourDeFlex 1.1

2014-09-24 Thread Matthew Weir
I've found the following errors while exploring.

1.) After clicking ApacheFlex4.11 callout button, everything freezes on the
right panel. You can still select things on the left, but nothing loads on the
right after that.
2.) ApacheFlex4.10 -> Timezone Formatting, says "Error loading source" and
nothing loads in the right panels.

AAC Audio Codec

2014-08-15 Thread Matthew Weir
Hey All,

I spent last night creating a module to publish video to YouTube Live, only to
find out that it only supports the AAC codec for audio. From what I can find,
Flash/Flex do not currently offer this codec to the microphone. Is this
something that is dependent on Flashplayer itself? Can we do anything about it
now that Apache has code access? Or is it even worth the effort? Does anyone
know a work around besides bouncing it off of a Wowza server (w/ audio
transcoding) to YouTube?

Here's a couple of posts about it, as something developers are looking for:

Re: Apple Packaging?

2014-04-21 Thread Matthew Weir
Thanks for responding Om,

It appears the problem/difference is running the commands using an elevated cmd
prompt (running as admin). Once that was done, I ran through the same tutorial
without a hitch. Running without creates the files all the same, but never
prompts for a password to enter.

Apple Packaging?

2014-04-20 Thread Matthew Weir
Ok, so I finally broke down and got an iPad for development purposes and I've
followed the instructions off a few tutorials about how to package it up to
work on the development iPad:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/articles/packaging-air-apps-ios.html

However right before sending it to the iPad it asks for the .p12 password. No
password was ever set - but a blank password doesn't work. Re-did the .p12
with a password - and the pw didn't work, even tried a p12 for android with a
known password and it wouldn't take the password.

What am I missing here?

Thanks,

Matthew

 Hi
 I have a live videoconferencing app that we will deploy to
 mobile devices sometime that year, with VOD (youtube) and
 live streams (from device -> Server and Server ->
 device).  It's based on RTMP. Is Apache Flex / Air
 ready for this type of project? Just read about a few issues
 between RTMP and HLS as well as h.264 live encoded streams.

Re: What map tools do you use for Flex?

2014-03-28 Thread Matthew Weir
I've used ESRI and Elixir. I'm really like ESRI, but I'm not sure of it's
commercial use since I've only used them as a hobbyist. I'm not a fan of
Elixir maps... but they have other tools besides maps to use. The main
advantage I find in Elixir maps is that they don't need to make external API
calls as they have built-in coordinate systems.

Re: Mac FileReference Bug

2014-02-03 Thread Matthew Weir
The bug is definitely browser specific.  Mac chrome works, PC chrome, FF, IE,
and Safari work just fine.

The bug was filled by someone else years ago and from what I can gather online
is at least through flex 3.9

The code logic is very simple.  Forgive me if it comes out Not perfect, on a
phone and going by memory.

Private function onUploadClick():void
{
   Fileref.addEventListener(Event.SELECT, onSelect);
   Fileref.browse();
  // file browser opens in ALL browsers
   // I believe file browser is AIR related based on documentation, but I'm not
sure
    // bug exists even when FP is updated to 12.x
}

Private function onSelect(ev:Event):void
{
    // code is reached by all browsers
    // but Mac FF and Mac Safari
}

Mac FileReference Bug

2014-01-31 Thread Matthew Weir
Hey all,

Stuck using Flex 3.x on this particular project and apparently Mac Safari and
Firefox don't fire off the Event.SELECT event.
Unresolved bug file: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3687113

I'm restricting file extensions, file size etc on the client side and that's
when I'm running that validation (after file is selected and before upload
attempt).

Can any of you think of an alternative prior to me moving that validation logic
to the server side after the upload attempt??

Thanks,

Matthew

Re: Flash Builder 4.7 License

2013-11-13 Thread Matthew Weir
After reading Fred's response about having a support ticket for the license.  I
logged into: https://www.adobe.com/account/my-products-services.html and found
a license number just sitting there for 4.7.    I wish Adobe would have
notified me of it.

I also tried twice submitting the online form for a 4.7 free upgrade

around the my adobe web site, and I found that my request had been approved
and the new serial number.  It was a "case" in the "customer support
portal".  Thanks for the tip.

Hey all,

I thought I'd ask if anyone knows a contact over at Adobe still regarding Flex.
 I have a legit Student version of CS 6 with Flash Builder 4.6, and Adobe says
that 4.7 is a free upgrade.  I went through the form to request the license key
and got no response.

Additionally, at work we have several legit copies of Flash Builder 4.6
professional and once again, after filling out the form for the license key
Adobe has given no response.

Any ideas what to do from here?

Thanks,

Matthew

Upgrading to 4.11 RC2 worked wonders.

Thanks Maurice!   Keep up the good work Apache Flex coders! :)

Ok, I see.

Callout/ CalloutButton has been redesigned in SDK 4.11.
Can you try it and see if it fixes you problem.

You can download ApacheFlex SDK 4.11 RC2 using ApacheFlex Installer which is
available here:
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/flex/installer/2.7/rc2/binaries/

Note: the new Callout / CalloutButton skin has also changed to match the mobile
skin.
You can change  the skin properties to match your needs.
Documentation is here:

Thanks Maurice.  I like the position of the callout itself.  It's just the
arrow that is the problem.

Since I can't attach to the email I posted the images online to help understand
the problem.

Hey all,

I put a list into a callout button and the problem I'm having is the arrow
location when the list is long.

When
the list is short, the arrow points to the button as it should.  When it's
long, the arrow points to the left of the middle of the callout content which
could be pretty much anywhere.

On this post
(http://blogs.adobe.com/jasonsj/) the callout arrows seem to change location
relevant to the content and the button. (see Callout Content Background Styles
section).

I'm not sure if I can attach images to this email, but I'll try.

I appreciate any insight you might give.

Subject: Displaying HTML content in AIR

Hello people

I have searched through the newsgroup, and wasn't able to find any answer
to my question: how can I show "complex" HTML content in a mobile AIR
application (deployed on iOS and Android)?

I have found this discussion, but that's about it :
http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/flex-users/201303.mbox/%3c514ca39afabe5b4390a46e6b07726aaf0268bb7...@exvs08.hosting.tg.local%3E

My client wants to be able to show ads in his application, and these ads
will most likely be HTML/CSS.

Thanks for your time and help.

I would use PHP with codeigniter framework and then return the result as JSON.
