[libreoffice-users] Numbering

Why is LibreOffice Writer being a douche and trying to number my paper
for me, even though I am numbering MY way? How the Smurf do I turn off
Bullets and Numbering off completely until I want it again?

Format Autocorrect Whyle typing ...
turns everything on and off.

The 'Autocorrect options' in that same menu, tab Options, give you fine
grained control.

And BTW: Ctrl-Z undoes the last (automatic) action, if something happens
that you do not want.

Have you been able to make a button to do the task? Is it something that

I don't know how difficult that would be nor how many people would find it

something there that they could incorporate into the main code. Is it a

Thanks. I just found that out because I installed the Final version which is
the same as RC2 i.e. Build 402

But it wouldn't kill the Devs if they used a naming system that made sense
to common users, would it?

Am I wrong if I guess you want to see RC1 or RC2 in the name of the
version ?
I think it is not a good idea because the stable version is bit-for-bit
identical to RC2. So having RC2 in the version name would be confusing
for the stable version.

I'm aware of that. That is why I suggested to modify the name of the
installer instead to include the build number e.g.
LibO_3.4.4rc1_Build401_Win_x86_install_multi.exe

Also renaming the installation folder using the same logic to

LibreOffice 3.4 (Build 402) Installation Files

instead of the current

LibreOffice 3.4 (4eb10e5c) Installation Files

would help a lot, inclusively to know which old installation folders to
delete and to keep. E.g. I might want to keep build 400 which worked for me
(in case I need to go back) but not 401 which had a bad bug...

Can this be put to consideration? It's not such an odd request and it
doesn't involve any code changes...

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Which RC version?

2011-11-11 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
You can always post it as a bug-report.  There is no harm in that.  People
don't need permission from the Users List in order to post bug-reports.  Just
post it.

I think the guide suggests asking the Users List or other places first just in
case there is something we can do to help fix a problem.  As a user you might
find something that appears horrendous but is actually quite trivial to fix.

I think you are possibly taking your first steps into being a dev.  It is good
to have ideas and argue them out because it often leads to either innovation or
a deeper understanding of why things are the way they are.  Either way it's a
win.

Sadly most of us on this list have no idea about what issues have led devs to
do things the way they do.  Also if you just suddenly pop-up on the devs list
and demand they change all their working practices they wont take it too kindly
and may even become hostile.  A bug-report might be a way of quietly
introducing the idea to them.

Regards from
Tom :)

[libreoffice-users] Writer: make comment refer to selected text rather than cursor point

2011-11-11 Thread Stephen Anderson
* In Writer, I would like to insert a comment that refers to some text that
I have selected (a phrase or sentence), rather than a single cursor point.
* I tried selecting the desired text, then clicking Insert/ Comment (or
Ctrl-Alt-C), but the resulting comment points to the beginning point of the
selected text, rather than the whole thing.
* Is there any way to do this? I looked at the documentation and FAQ but
can't see anything.
- Thanks!
Steve A.

Re: [libreoffice-users] RDF with bad format in 3.4.* and good format in 3.3.*

2011-11-11 Thread Cor Nouws

Hi Dimas,

Dimas wrote (11-11-11 14:58)

If I open this file with LibreOffice Writer 3.4.x the table is bad formated.
But with LibreOffice 3.3.x I can view it fine. Is it a bug?

Yes, I can confirm that.
The good news is, that the bug already is fixed in the code for 3.5:
You can download a developer version to try it yourself here
  http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/

So, that still leaves you with the question what to do in the time
before 3.5.x is released...

Kind regards,

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: which of my American, British, and Canadian English dictionaries are now online

2011-11-11 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

Sorry, I cannot take credit for the word lists. They are open-source
and come from a Linux repository source for a different type of system
dictionary. There were list for American English, British English [not
Oxford], Canadian English, French, Spanish, and Italian.

I just converted these lists to something that LO could use. To be
honest, if you know what to do, you can create your own specialty
dictionaries. You just take one from the correct language as a model
and make yours using that model. It also helps that have open-source
components to work from.

My issue was I could not find any easy documentation to help me do the
work. I found a few hints, but that was all. So I had to do some trial
and error for the non-word-list items. I wanted to be able to have a
person install all my dictionary files then use the enable/disable
options to choose which dictionary you wish to use at any given time.

My next job will be to see how I can add to the thesaurus data for
some of the words that are not included. The thesaurus I currently use
deals with American, British, and Canadian English words and phrases,
about 145,800 of them. There are a lot of phrases and abbreviations in
the thesaurus. I want to see what can be done to make it include others
that might be needed or wanted by our LibreOffice users.

Below are some of the word listings in the thesaurus I am using. This
is an indexed list so changing the number of lines for a word in this
list will reflect/change the indexed line number of the index file. I
will have to create/use a database style of software to alter the
thesaurus system. For the 1st baron verulam it starts on line #10337
of the thesaurus data file, while ocher starts on line #11507218. If
I add lines to any word[s] between these two, all of the indexes will be
mess up from the first addition on. As for ocher, it also shows
ochre as a different spelling for it.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Your mailing list thinks my subscription attempt is spam!

2011-11-11 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

To be honest, everyone's mail system that has their own spam filters,
tend to look at email-lists differently. Some would think them as spam,
by their definitions as spam, while others would not. I have a friend
that sends me emails for years. Suddenly my email/domain hosting system
started calling her AOL address spam. I use GoDaddy for a hosting
service and if one of its users start sending spam, EVERYONE who uses
that company to host their domains/emails are declared spam by some of
the spam/black list companies. It takes someone to remove that spammer
off the system and then contact the black list company to clean up the mess.

For my part. If I get an email that has been declared spam and I know
it is not, I just tell my email client [Thunderbird] that it is not
spam. Your Gmail service should have some option like that. Next
someone needs to contact Gmail and let them know emails for our list
server domain is not spam and you have to sign up to get the list emails.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Libreoffice crash in Linux

2011-11-11 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

When I installed 3.4.4 on a system that I newly installed Linux Mint 11
OS onto it, I had to install a default JRE. It did install 3.3.2 on it
by its default, but it never installed the needed JRE for the 3.4.x
versions. Otherwise it works fine for me. I wonder why Mint does not
install a JRE by default?

Even though this IBM server [cir. 2002] originally had SUSE installed, I
never could get openSUSE to run on it when I bought the server a few
years back. Hopefully it works better now than back then.

Hello, and thank you for the news!

Do you know the approximately date release of 3.5.x?

And.. if is it possible to patch 3.4.x before?

Thx,

 Yes, I can confirm that.
The good news is, that the bug already is fixed in the code for 3.5:
You can download a developer version to try it yourself here
http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/

So, that still leaves you with the question what to do in the time
 before 3.5.x is released...

her AOL address spam.  I use GoDaddy for a hosting service and if one of its
users start sending spam, EVERYONE who uses that company to host their
domains/emails are declared spam by some of the spam/black list companies.
It takes someone to remove that spammer off the system and then contact the
black list company to clean up the mess.

For my part.  If I get an email that has been declared spam and I know it is
not, I just tell my email client [Thunderbird] that it is not spam.  Your
Gmail service should have some option like that.  Next someone needs to
contact Gmail and let them know emails for our list server domain is not
spam and you have to sign up to get the list emails.

Hello there,

A million thanks for free LibreOffice.

I have created some excel chat on Windows with Microsoft office 2007 and 2010.
I have nought a  macbookpro laptop and I have installed on it OpenOffice 3.3
and last night I noticed it doesn't display my excel charts. My charts are
inside documents (I mean I have included my graphs inside my PhD thesis
chapters). Open Office displays words and description but graphs are faded. I
can see graphs in my friend's laptop which is windows and she has Microsoft
Office 2007 on it.

My question is this:

If I install free LibreOffice on my MacbookPro (2011 version), will it display
my Excel charts that I have created on Windows laptop with Microsoft office
2007 and 2010?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Kind regards

Thank you for your comment. I happen to be working with recipes and
often cut and paste from the Internet. The lists come out in text format
just like anything else I type by way of annotation. If I manipulate the
list in any way it turns into list format (whatever that may be) and the
line spacing changes and any numbers at the beginning of a line go to
bold. These problems do not occur in Word so I conclude that this is an
idiosyncrasy of Libre.

Between each install I use the Windows uninstaller to wipe out each

Is this a bug or just something in Win 7 sp1 that refuses to let me run

[libreoffice-users] Headings with custom list not working

2011-11-11 Thread steelej
I am trying to create headings using a Custom List to define the heading
format. This is not working. It should be trivial.

What I am doing is the create a Custom List using Outline and making the
levels on the left margin - e.g. Doc Headings2

1.Heading 1
1.1. Heading 2
1.1.3 Heading 3

The preview in the List style shows exactly what I want.

I then create custom Heading styles, each derived from Heading 1, Heading 2
and Heading 3 - DocHdg 1, Doc Hdg 2 and DocHdg 3

In each case I set the Outline Level to 1, 2, 3 respectively. I then apply
my custom headings and get

1. DocHdg 1
2. DocHdg 2
3. DocHdg 3

This is not what I expected or wanted. In other words the Outline level in
the Paragraph Style is being ignored and level 1 list formatting is being
applied

The Status bar shows the numbering format as Doc Heading : Level 1 Outline
1 (or 2 or 3 depending on the style chosen) which at least explains why the
behaviour is happening.

Why is the Outline level in the style being ignored and Level 1 being
applied?
Is this a bug?

I can see no rationale for the observed behaviour but the way in which I
expected LO to work seems logical and would give great flexibility.

[libreoffice-users] Bug: Setting $DATA causes LibreOffice to crash

2011-11-11 Thread Keith Thompson
Quick summary: Setting the environment variable $DATA causes
LibreOffice to crash.

I'm using LibreOffice version 3.3.4 on Ubuntu 11.04.

Help  About says;
LibreOffice 3.3.4
OOO330m19 (Build:401)
tag libreoffice-3.3.3.1, Ubuntu package 1:3.3.4-0ubuntu1

I normally set an environment variable $DATA to the full name of a
directory (for purposes unrelated to LibreOffice). I've found that
when this environment variable is set, LibreOffice refuses to run.
When I run the command libreoffice from the command line, it shows
the splash screen, then terminates with an error message:

terminate called after throwing an instance of
'com::sun::star::uno::RuntimeException'

(Incidentally, it doesn't set a non-zero exit status.)

I've worked around the problem by changing the name of my environment
variable from $DATA to $DAT, but I suggest that LibreOffice shouldn't
misbehave if $DATA is set -- or, at the very least, that it should
give me an error message telling me how to work around the problem.
(It took me a long time to figure out that the problem was caused by
an environment variable, and a while longer to narrow down which one.)

I've downloaded the source code to try to track down the problem.
I haven't completely diagnosed it, but I suspect that the
culprit is the Components::parseXcsXcuIniLayer() function in
configmgr/source/components.cxx :

...
if (ini.getFrom(rtl::OUString(RTL_CONSTASCII_USTRINGPARAM(DATA)), urls))
{
parseFileList(layer + 1, parseXcuFile, urls, ini, recordAdditions);
}

I also wonder whether some other seemingly innocuous environment
variables might cause similar problems.

I saw a similar problem in OpenOffice.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Your mailing list thinks my subscription attempt is spam!

I don't think you understand; it appears to be global.libreoffice.org
itself that thinks *my* e-mail is spam, not the other way around.

The email may be passing through another server that is flagged as a
spammer. Recently, I had a similar problem with a customer's email
blocking my company email but I could use my personal email to
communicate with him. The only way to determine what is happening is to
look at the full email header and possibly ping the other email server
to see what is the typical route.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Cannot get LibreOffice to install

2011-11-11 Thread Jonathon Waterman
Greetings. I thought I would let you know I am running L.O. 3.4.4. on
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 - 64 bit with no problems. Thus it can be done.

Most likely the problem is being caused by some hardware or software
setting on the computer.

You may want to reboot Windows and bring it up in SAFE Mode - you do this
by hitting the F8 key during startup.

Then once you are up in Safe Mode - Install L.O.

Good Luck!

  Greetings

I have been trying to get LO 3.4.4, 3.4.3 or 3.3.4 to install on Windows
7 SP 1 for the past day or so. I have downloaded all the mentioned
version with the help files and checked their MD5 sums (all are good). I
have attempted to install with and without Admin privileges and still
each version dies at trying to start the Report Builder.

Between each install I use the Windows uninstaller to wipe out each
version before I attempt to re-install a different version.

Is this a bug or just something in Win 7 sp1 that refuses to let me run
  software I want?

Have you set a Java environment in Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice/Java?.

Would he have to have LO installed to do that?
