[libreoffice-users] predefined text to paste / insert

2012-05-02 Thread Mihamina Rakotomandimby

Hi all,

I'm editing a document and need to get some predefined text to insert.

For example, I have many {code}, {note}, {section}, {header} to
isert inline the document I'm editing.

For those who know, I'm editing a Confluence Wiki page over WebDav.

How to store a string to paste in a key combo?

Dont worry, I'm used to Emacs when coding, so kamasutra combos dont
scare me.

[libreoffice-users] [3.5.1.2/Calc/XP] Regex to find/replace numbers?

2012-05-02 Thread Gilles
Hello

I need to search and reformat toll-free numbers in a spreadsheet, but I
can't find how to do this in Calc:

 (\d\d)(\d\d)(\d\d)

ie. space + six digits in pairs.

In the Find Replace dialog, even with the default Regular expression
option checked and Search in=Values, this triggers Search key not found.

Thank you.

Fonts Re: [libreoffice-users] Albany ? Thorndale ?

2012-05-02 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Fonts are tricky.  Luckily someone on this list can often help people find an
appropriate font.  The OS should have a lot of free fonts included and it's
usually possible to get a few more through searches.  MS core fonts can usually
be added as a single package.  For others you need to do a search, avoid them,
pay up or find someone else that has already done a search for nearest
equivalents.

Apols and regards from
Tom :)

Surprise, the default fonts for both the slides (Thorndale) and the notes

Some ways that is good, and others it is not.

Sorry, as I'm working with text mostly, I've overseen that \d is not the
correct syntax for digits. Pressing Help (or F1) in the search dialog, you'll
find a link to the List of Regular Expressions. There you can see, that a
digit is represented by [:digit:], not by \d. So you might have to search for
([:digit:]{2}.){2}[:digit:]{2} or similar (without the double quotes).

Because the creator of your template did not think twice. See

The best work-around for this situation is a font replacement table

For what I have seen over the years, 90%+ of the fonts we use have free
versions that are very similar. Similar enough that most people will
not notice the difference.

I think Liberation Sans can replace Albany and Liberation Serif replaced
Thorndale.

Both are free fonts.

below is a quote about this.

http://blogs.computerworld.com/liberation_fonts_for_linux
There are three sets of Liberation fonts: Sans (a substitute for Arial,
Albany, Helvetica, Nimbus Sans L, and Bitstream Vera Sans), Serif (a
substitute for Times New Roman, Thorndale, Nimbus Roman, and Bitstream
Vera Serif) and Mono (a substitute for Courier New, Cumberland, Courier,
Nimbus Mono L, and Bitstream Vera Sans Mono). Specifically, Sans is
closest to Arial; Serif works best as a replacement for Times New Roman;
and Mono is a near-twin to Courier New.

I have OOo 3.3.0 (m20) on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32 bit. This morning I
created a report in a database using it. Then I opened it using LO 3.5.2
downloaded from the LO website. I did not have a problem. I have no
problem opening the report. I can also open the report on Ubuntu 11.10
64bit using LO 3.5.2 also from the website.
I am going to do a little more research: I have OOo 3.3.0 on a Mac
partition as well. I will be reporting back a little later.
Perhaps the problem could have come from the Ubuntu 12.04 version of LO 3.5.

Both are free fonts.

below is a quote about this.

http://blogs.computerworld.com/liberation_fonts_for_linux
There are three sets of Liberation fonts: Sans (a substitute for
Arial, Albany, Helvetica, Nimbus Sans L, and Bitstream Vera Sans),
Serif (a substitute for Times New Roman, Thorndale, Nimbus Roman, and
Bitstream Vera Serif) and Mono (a substitute for Courier New,
Cumberland, Courier, Nimbus Mono L, and Bitstream Vera Sans Mono).
Specifically, Sans is closest to Arial; Serif works best as a
replacement for Times New Roman; and Mono is a near-twin to Courier New.

Supporting what Webmaster wrote above, I've been using the
OpenOffice/Libre Office Suite since the .9 something beta of OpenOffice.
Originally OpenOffice did not have Arial or Times New Roman. It is my
recollection that these fonts were open source to supply a rough
equivalent of Arial and Times New Roman. I'm guessing that the original
Albany and Thorndale must have been open source back then.

Yes, these were the old default fonts for StarOffice, and then

as to why they should be present in LibreOffice.

You said you created a clean profile from a new user when you installed
LibreOffice - however, did you have any previous OOo or StarOffice
configuration files still laying around on your system ? If so, this
could be one reason why you are still seeing those font entries. Some of
the configuration files are stored system wide, and these are overlaid
on top of the user configuration at startup.

Alternatively, it might be that the default Impress textbox font
configuration setting never got changed to the new Liberation fonts. One
way to check would be to do a search for XCU files, and then see if any
of them contain a reference to Thorndale or Albany.

I have a set list of fonts that I want any Writer document to use,

Re: [libreoffice-users] Wanted: Macro for removing Page Breaks in MailMerge docs

2012-05-02 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky
If you are looking to have more than one record on a page, look into the
next record command

Writer automatically assumes next record = next page when merging.

Adding next record after last field entered, begins repeat of fields
on same page.

From menu Insertfieldsother, select next record.

Suppose you have a set of fields. F1, F2 and F3 in a table. Add F1, F2
and F3 on every table row.

At the end of each row in the table, add next record field after F3.

Hope this helps

XML shows that paragraphs with page breaks are different from paragraphs

In the automatic styles section, P4 has the following property:

style:style style:name=P4 ...
   style:paragraph-properties style:page-number=1/...

which - I suppose - is responsible for the page break before this paragraph.

Questions:

- Can anybody give me a hint how to write a Macro which removes those page

The problem arises from a change in where the templates are
located: LO 3.5 stores them in a different location
(.config/libreoffice/3/user/template) than 3.4
(.libreoffice/3/user/template).
Suggestion: use the organise templates feature again. If you use
My Templates as the folders for your templates, highlight it. The click
the Command button and select Update. Perhaps this will cause your
templates to appear.
If this does not work, copy your templates contained
in .libreoffice/3/user/template to .config/libreoffice/3/user/template.
Then organise your templates, highlight the My Template folder, click
the Command button, and select Update from the drop down menu. The
templates should appear.
I used this process to add multiple templates to My Templates, and
it saves time compared to importing one template at a time.

Re: [libreoffice-users] [3.5.1.2/Calc/XP] Regex to find/replace numbers?

 Hello

I need to search and reformat toll-free numbers in a spreadsheet, but I
can't find how to do this in Calc:

  (\d\d)(\d\d)(\d\d)

ie. space + six digits in pairs.

Do not understand the logic to search for numbers as pairs, but the
syntax to use is '[:digit:]'. It may be quicker and easier to use
regular expressions within a text editor and then import the
information into the spreadsheet.

I'm editing a document and need to get some predefined text to

store a string to paste in a key combo?

Try AutoCorrect:
o Go to Tools | AutoCorrect Options... | Replace.
o For Replace:, enter (say) #c .
o For With:, enter {code} .
o Click New.
o Repeat for #n, #s, and #h.
o Click OK.
(At Tools | AutoCorrect Options... | Options, ensure Use replacement
table is ticked.)

In your document, now just type #c etc. and watch the fun!

I trust this helps.
