Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: How to arrange figures on page (table?)

2012-09-26 Thread Dan Lewis
You are confusing me. You first complain about the figures getting
distorted by the cell you place them in. Now you mention that with my
suggestion the figures are not automatically resized to match the
arrangement in the frame. What is it that you really want? How many
figures are you putting together? What type of figures are they? (Are
they graphic files or drawings that are not files?) If graphic files,
what type are they? (JPG, FIG, PNG, etc.) What space limitations are
there? Do the figures usually need to be reduced in size to fit on the
page? How much?
Can I arrange 4 figures in one frame in a 2 row by two column
arrangement? Easily. Since the figures are anchored as a character, 2
figures can be placed side by side as I described. Then with the cursor
at the right side of the second figure, type the Enter key to create a
new line. Add figures # 3 and 4 the same way figures #1 and 2 were added
in the beginning.
In my writing, I have one frame that has 3 figures in a frame (all
three are in the same row.
I look forward to seeing your more detailed explanation of your
problem.

Also, according to your explanation, I do not see how you can arrange
4 figures in a, for example, 2 x 2 distribution.
When you say
The figure is anchored as a character. This permits me to place two
figures into the frame and have the figures centered.
I presume this is only to put 2 figures in a 2 rows x 1 column arrangement.
Am I wrong? If so, could you explain how to arrange 4 figures as 2
rows x 2 columns in the page?

cell shape to fit the figure. How can I do it?
Also, is there a better way to arrange figures in a page?
I've tried using columns, but I have the same problem: figures get
reshaped and do not keep their width x height ratio.

My previous reply may have an error in it: the part about Position and
Size. If a figure is a drawing of some type, you need to know its
dimensions. Then you can select the size of the frame to match its size. If
the figure is a graphics file, you can insert it into the frame. Then right
click it. Select Picture from the context menu. When the Picture dialog
opens, click the Original Size button. The the Height and Width boxes
reveals what the original size is. Then change the size of the frame to
match.

[libreoffice-users] Calc - bar chart - does not list order properly for cell values

2012-09-26 Thread webmaster-Kracked_P_P

I use 3.5.6 on Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit

I notice that when I create a listing of months and money going

March 100.00
April 200.00
May 150.00
June100.00

The graphs always give me the information from bottom to top.

June - - - - -
May- - - - - - -
April- - - - - - - - - -
March - - - - -

I have manually changed the data ranges starting with the last item and
ending with the first, but the column or bar graphs always seem to give
me the same visual of last to first on the chart/graph.

I do not know what is going on with this. I am dealing with a graph
showing month and income is a bar chart, but having the current month on
the left and the oldest month on the right just does not work for others.

Here is the Data info in the wizard.

Data Range:
$'Royalty Checks'.$A$5:$B$31

Data Series:
column B:
$'Royalty Checks'.$A$5:$A$31

Y-Values $'Royalty Checks'.$A$5:$B$31:
$'Royalty Checks'.$B$5:$B$31

When I do a highlighting for bottom to top or top to bottom, the ranges
and graph always is the same. When I revers the order of the beginning
and end values for the cells, I still get the same order of the graph
visual elements.

I do remember that last year, when I created a chart like this with
3.3.x [late version] or 3.4.x [early version], it did work file. If I
highlighted the top to bottom, it showed the order of the elements
matching top to bottom. I placed the chart/graph next to the columns
[in column C] so the value of the cell is in alignment with the bar on
the chart's graphic. It is used to watch the trend of the income from
that person's monthly royalty checks. Since the earlier spreadsheet was
lost with a computer crash and the backup disk was damaged, I cannot go
back to the old file and just update it.

2012-09-26 Thread Andreas Säger
Hi,

The Y-axis is a numeric scale with start, end and some interval.
The scale can be adjusted to be logarithmic or in reverse order. Just
double-click the chart and then the y-axis.
The order of the corresponding cell vector does not matter as long as
the cell values are numeric.

Correction: In a vertical bar chart the vertical axis is the x-axis. It
can be set to either one of Automatic (number or text), Date (number
with special intervals) or Text. Text scales are shown in the order of
appearance, numeric scales are sorted ascendingly or descendingly. If
you have text data, there is no choice other than Text.

Actually
If you want to have the exact amount listed next to the bar of the
column or bar chart, the way I have it set up was the only one that
worked Last year.

If I have to change that, I would place it on a different printed page.
BUT if I want it show together, it needs to be a Bar graph.

I need to have the oldest date on the left and the newest on the right
[or old on top]. But if I use a Column Chart, the system seems to
insist that the newest date [in a text format] be listed first [left
or top] and not last which is not the order of the column of data.

Tom :)

for cell values
To: LibreO - Users Global users@global.libreoffice.org

I use 3.5.6 on Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit

I notice that when I create a listing of months and money going

March 100.00
April 200.00
May 150.00
June100.00

The graphs always give me the information from bottom to top.

June - - - - -
May- - - - - - -
April- - - - - - - - - -
March - - - - -

I have manually changed the data ranges starting with the last item and ending
with the first, but the column or bar graphs always seem to give me the same
visual of last to first on the chart/graph.

I do not know what is going on with this. I am dealing with a graph showing
month and income is a bar chart, but having the current month on the left and
the oldest month on the right just does not work for others.

Here is the Data info in the wizard.

Data Range:
   $'Royalty Checks'.$A$5:$B$31

Data Series:
   column B:
   $'Royalty Checks'.$A$5:$A$31

   Y-Values $'Royalty Checks'.$A$5:$B$31:
   $'Royalty Checks'.$B$5:$B$31

When I do a highlighting for bottom to top or top to bottom, the ranges and
graph always is the same. When I revers the order of the beginning and end
values for the cells, I still get the same order of the graph visual elements.

I do remember that last year, when I created a chart like this with 3.3.x [late
version] or 3.4.x [early version], it did work file. If I highlighted the top
to bottom, it showed the order of the elements matching top to bottom. I
placed the chart/graph next to the columns [in column C] so the value of the
cell is in alignment with the bar on the chart's graphic. It is used to watch
the trend of the income from that person's monthly royalty checks. Since the
earlier spreadsheet was lost with a computer crash and the backup disk was
damaged, I cannot go back to the old file and just update it.

[libreoffice-users] Loosing chart on exporting ods to xls

2012-09-26 Thread Vytas

Hi,

I have an ods spreadsheet in which I have a simple line chart. When I
convert it to a xls file all the data gets exported however the chart is
missing. Is there something special I need to do with the Chart so that
it gets retained in the xls file? Providing client with a PDF is not an
option as they need to be able to manipulate the data.

I am working on a computer running Windows XP an using LibreOffice
Version 3.4.4.

Thanks,

Vytas

2012-09-26 Thread rost52
I am afraid that it is not possible to convert ods charts into xls charts. I observed this effect
several times.

Does someone has experience with xlsx files?

I am running LO 3.5.6.2 on XP SP3

Re: [libreoffice-users] custom shows within a slide show - impress

2012-09-26 Thread Dr. R. O Stapf

As promised here the information on how I created a work-around.

Copied slides for custom shows into a special section of the presentation after the last slide of
the main presentation.

Created a text (name of a custom show) and used interaction with go to page.
Used slide 1 of the custom show as target.
At the last slide of the custom show I added the text return. Using interaction go to page and
jumped back to the page from where I started the custom show.

Disadvantage against MSO:
- One needs to create an interaction to return; in MSO one can just flag return
to start (or similar)
- The slide from which one jumps to the custom show will start from the
beginning.

I just hope that there is an enhancement in the near future.

Thanks for the hints

'hiding' is not an option as I want to stay in presentation mode

Using your URL approach could be a possible work around, I was thinking in the meantime about
using 'interaction' and do a similar thing. Need to some testing and will post the result. It
might take me a few days.

Have you considered 'hiding' these slides -- if you wish to have
them seen, just click on 'show' these -
if they're not desired, the presentation will skip over them;
or
insert a URL which, when you click it, would send you to these
slides - when you wish to return to the main show, click on the URL within
this sub-show -

Hoping this helps,

Hi and thanks for the first reply.

I intend to show the custom show depending on the discussion in my (main)
presentation.
Imagine following sequence:
- In my presentation I am showing slide N,
- Because and only because of the discussion I want to show 2 slides
additionally and then return to my slide N. (I grouped these 2 slides in a
custom show and call it CustShow.)
- Now I want to click on text or button to open the CustShow.
- After the last slide of the CustShow I want to show again slide N of the
(main) presentation.

I keep the slides for my custom shows at the end of my main presentation
in a section I call LinkedSlides

In Impress I looked into interaction and hyperlink but could not find
a way to show CustShow and return to my slide N from where I wanted to
branch.

Let me please also explain what I did in In MS PowerPoint:before I
switched over to LO
- created a custom show
- created a text box or button at the slide from where I wanted to start
the custom show
- hyperlinked text box (or button) with the custom show and set a flag to
return to the starting slide in the main presentation.

 Are you perchance referring to placing a URL link within the show;
if so, then that's what you do - when you click on it, then
that
site will open up.

If instead you're referring to placing a slide show within a slide
show,
then just add the additional slides where you wish them to
appear.

If neither, then please explain further.
