[libreoffice-users] new version of LO gives gibberish for excel file.
Hi I just downloaded an excel file from http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/taxfacts/displayafact.cfm?Docid=205 The file is the excel version of Historical Source of Revenue as Share of GDP. The newest, recommended version of LO opens the file as gibberish: LibreOffice Version 3.6.5.2 (Build ID: 5b93205) My system runs Windows 7, 64 bit, AMD quad core, 4 GB RAM. Can anyone explain or help me fix this? A workaround is to fetch MS' Excel Viewer, then copy from that to a table in Writer for my document, but I would prefer to use LO for as nearly everything as possible. Re: [libreoffice-users] new version of LO gives gibberish for excel file.
Hi :) All looked fine in Ubuntu 12.04. I might be able to have a look in Xp later. I took a screen-shot of the website to show that looking fine and then the xls download (they called it their Excel version, not sure if that infringes their Eula but there we go) and also their Pdf version. Opening their Pdf in a Pdf reader was fine but opening it in LibreOffice always gives me tooo many options and i never know which to choose. So, the Pdf looked a bit wrong if i opened it in LibreOffice but only because i have no idea what options to choose. Perhaps simialr trouble there so please try the Excel version instead ;) Regards from Tom :) From: Mirosław Zalewski mini...@poczta.onet.pl To: users@global.libreoffice.org Sent: Friday, 1 March 2013, 15:52 Subject: Re: [libreoffice-users] new version of LO gives gibberish for excel file. [libreoffice-users] Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: Getting Started v4.0 full book now available
Hi :) Sorry, someone pointed out that ToC links are rarely if ever a problem. Missing x-refs and missing figures are much more likely to occur. I kinda assumed people would read the email i was forwarding to the list and not take too much notice of my own note but i should have beena lot more clear about that. Jean's email (3rd one down now) is the important one. Apols and regards from Tom :) From: Tom Davies tomdavie...@yahoo.co.uk To: Jean Weber jeanwe...@gmail.com; users@global.libreoffice.org users@global.libreoffice.org Sent: Friday, 1 March 2013, 15:08 Subject: Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: Getting Started v4.0 full book now available Hi :) The Getting Started Guide is ready as a full book but it would be a huge help if people could download the Pdf of it from https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications and check it looks fine. Perhaps check a few of the Table-of-Contents links and other links (probably all those do work tbh). Maybe other links. Just generally have a really quick look through to see if you spot any deliberate mistakes due to making the guide into a Pdf. Many thanks in advance if anyone does manage to have a look through Regards from Tom :) From: Jean Weber jeanwe...@gmail.com To: documentat...@global.libreoffice.org Sent: Friday, 1 March 2013, 14:24 Subject: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: Getting Started v4.0 full book now available Would appreciate someone (or several people) doing a quick check of the PDF for oddities, which often creep in any time I regenerate the PDF. [libreoffice-users] Get Involved with LibreOffice - No Programming Skills Needed
Hi All, This is an invite for anyone who has just a little time to join the QA team in triaging bugs. Our team is quickly growing but the ratio of users to QA contributors is still not functional as we are having a hard time keeping up with organizing bugs. The tasks are quite easy and someone from our team is almost always available to help new contributors master the skills needed to successfully triage bugs. If you are interested and have just a few minutes (honestly some bugs take 5 minutes to triage) please consider joining. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugTriage and our friendly team is available on freenode at: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=libreoffice-qa Hope to see some of you around. Re: [libreoffice-users] new version of LO gives gibberish for excel file.
Have you cleared the cache recently?; CCleaner is a handy program to use whenever you shut down your machine - clears the cache of all that built-up junk, which accumulates; so you won't run into these problems where the machine wants to find a MsFt program which you no longer have on it ;-) You can find CCleaner here http://www.techsupportalert.com/ with comments on how it operates, etc. On Fri, Mar 1, 2013 at 8:18 AM, David B Teague sr davidbtea...@comporium.net wrote: Hi I just downloaded an excel file from http://www.taxpolicycenter.**org/taxfacts/displayafact.cfm?**Docid=205http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/taxfacts/displayafact.cfm?Docid=205 The file is the excel version of Historical Source of Revenue as Share of GDP.
