[libreoffice-users] Re: KDE integration

2013-03-09 Thread Marc Paré

Le 09/03/13 01:20 AM, F Glopez a écrit :

Hi Jay,

I did what you proposed ...

I added ppa:libreoffice/ppa to my
sources , looked for libreoffice-kde package, installed it and some
of its dependencies ( a couple of upstream packages had to be removed
) .

Unfortunately it seems LibreOffice
upstream packages didn't cohabited properly with ppa:libreoffice/ppa ones (
LibreOffice didn't even started ) , so ... I fully
uninstalled upstream LibreOffice and finally installed LO 4.0.1 from
ppa:libreoffice/ppa .

Well, I have to say something ... I
had initially decided installing LO from upstream after almost two
years running with ppa:libreoffice/ppa . I decided to made this
change after suffering several problems regarding 'Partial Upgrades'
, this is a very unconfortable issue where you have to uninstall
quite a lot of packages to reinstall them again and ... even in that
position, you may be unable to upgrade your LO version.

I have decided to give a last
opportunity to ppa:libreoffice/ppa , but either way, I believe the
proper solution would be to include 'KDE Integration' packages on
LibreOffice upstream.

Does anybody know if this is a
plausible/planned solution ?

Thanks a lot.

Although I do not use Ubuntu linux, I use Mageia2 Linux with KDE. I
install the freedesktop menus that are found in the Desktop
Integration file folder, and the menus work well with KDE.

I am not sure if this would work with Ubuntu.

Cheers,

Marc

2013-03-09 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
I suspect that the 55% for AOO in business is due to LibreOffice voters not
finding an option to vote for Libreoffice.

In such cases the votes seem to be split between Google-docs and AOO because
they are the 2 suite that are most similar to LibreOffice.  Likewise where
AOO is not listed i suspect their voters are torn between voting for
Google-docs or LibreOffice.

When i first voted i was determined to vote everyday but then forgot after the
2nd day.  I suspect that AOO is more dedicated to voting because of the early
massive lead LibreOffice had.

In my opinion LibreOffice and AOO should be offered as 1 single choice because
the products are so similar.  We don't see the MS Office vote split between the
various different bundles or different versions.  It would be interesting to
see how many in the Academics Section just carried on using whatever came with
the machine rather than deliberately going out and getting the Student
Edition of MSO.

Machines seldom come with LibreOffice/AOO preinstalled so votes for them are
from people that have found good reason NOT to stick with whatever they already
had on their machine.  Votes for MSO are often a vote to just a vote for
inability, apathy, ignorance or even fear of their machine.  MSO 'should' be
winning in the votes because of the percentages of people using it and their
resistance to change.  The fact it isn't points more to apathy of MS users.

Tom :)

Do!  My example of the Academic Section was a tad flawed!  lol.  They do
actually have 2 of the bundles for students and academics, they just don't have
the 'normal' bundle for a comparison.  So, it's still not a fair vote but
somehow LibreOffice is streaking ahead despite that.

I think a macro could do that for you and I was even thinking of
writing one, but if it should be useful no matter what locale settings
you have, the macro needs to know things like decimal- and thousands
separator (for example in my country we use space for thousands
separator and comma for decimal separator, which is quite different
from yours). I am sure it's possible but still searching…

Re: [libreoffice-users] Currency conversion/display in calc

2013-03-09 Thread Don Myers

Hi Steve,

I only have 4.0.1.2 installed, but my guess is that with the comma in
there, or possibly the dollar sign, or maybe both, when you are pasting
it, calc thinks it is text and not a number. That causes the left
alignment and not being dividable since text can't be divided.

 Hi :)
I think you might be over-complicating it? Just typign the number in as a
number and letting the formatting do it's magic seems a much easier route!

Well, I don't know what the OP usually does, but maybe he goes to a
website somewhere, highlight a a table or something and then paste it
into calc?

Of course he could then do a Search/Replace to get rid of the
thousands separator and the dollar sign, and form there it is probably
quite a lot easier to do the rest. But it feels like that's at least
one step too much… It's easy to create a macro that does all the
necessary Search/Replace steps in one single step, though.

 Hi.
If I type or paste $2,441.99 into a cell in calc (3.6) it is left aligned.
If I right click format cell it states number-general.
 If I divide it by 2 I get #value!

How do I get LO to recognise this as a number. I found a long winded way,
format it as currency and remove the ' that LO puts in front.
 Steve

I think a macro could do that for you and I was even thinking of
writing one, but if it should be useful no matter what locale settings
you have, the macro needs to know things like decimal- and thousands
separator (for example in my country we use space for thousands
separator and comma for decimal separator, which is quite different
from yours). I am sure it's possible but still searching…

I use LO 3.6.5.2 from the LO website. When I write $2,441.99, Calc
recognizes it as a currency. When I copy it and then paste it into a
cell, I get the Import Options dialog. At its bottom is the Options and
a box that should be checked any time the data contains special numbers
such as dates, currencies, etc.
So I have 2 ways to paste currency: click the box in the Option
section, or paste special.
However, if you have gotten you version of LO from a repository
rather than from the LO website, your version may not have the Import
Options dialog.

[libreoffice-users] Macro Security Settings

2013-03-09 Thread Andrew

Version 3.6.5.2 (Build ID: 5b93205)

I wrote a program? macro? many years ago in Excel 2000 that I haven't
used in almost as long, but now I have need of it again.

When I try to run it, Libre Calc complains about the security settings.
I changed them in tools-options--LibreOffice---Security--Macro
Security to Low and it still gives me the same error and refuses to
run the macro.

Any help?

Thank you in advance

Re: [libreoffice-users] Macro Security Settings

2013-03-09 Thread Mirosław Zalewski
Perhaps macro is not run due to error?

LibreOffice does not use VBA, as MS Office does; it uses Star Basic instead. It
tries to translate VBA to SB on the fly, but most of time it fails to do so. I
bet this is your case.

I am afraid you must rewrite your macro to Star Basic, so LO will be able to
run it. Or try with MS Office (although they might have changed API in past 10
years, in which case your macro will not run anyway).

I thought easy enough with regexp but noticed that there are
instructions on how to do it in excel so thought LO might too.

For security reasons I think it's better to keep the highest level,
just add paths in the ”Trusted sources” (or whatever it's called in

Hi :)
I think there are 4 different languages that can be used to create macros for
LibreOffice.  Java is going down the pan now that Oracle run it so it might be
best to use Python?  The LibreOffice devs are currently converting all java
stuff to other languages, i think mostly to Python or C++.
