Hi :)
Has this question been sent to the devs list yet?  I'm not sure if anyone else
got confused about which machine we were talking about so i went back to the
original post to check.

Subject: [libreoffice-users] How I can reduce the loading speed of Calc ?

First time I come here - Hello to everybody and thanks to The Document
Foundation.

I have an Asus EeePc 1005 HA - 2 Go ram (2 Go * 1) - Intel Atom N280  @
1.66GHz - Windows 7 Home Premium 32-but SP1 - HD 244 Go

My LO version is 4.0.1.2 (in french).

Number of operations : 100.
Memory for LO : 20 Mo
Memory per item : 5,2 Mo.

My (small) file : 24,6 ko (28 on the disk).

On the desk I have a link for my file. After a double click I have to wait
42 sec. Another way :

I click on LO shortcut : = 6 sec. Then...
I choose Calc : = 2 sec. Then...
I choose my file (in the last of the last files...) : = 26 sec.

How I can reduce the loading speed of Calc ?

Thanks,

Jacques

Re: [libreoffice-users] Oracle Report Builder - Text field overflow and N.aN problem

2013-04-08 Thread Marion Noel Lodge
Hi Girvin,

Thanks for all that information . When I get time, I'll disable Oracle
Report Builder and try LO 3.6 again. Hopefully I will then get Report
Builder 1.2.3 and see if that solves my problem with N.aN.

 Noel,
I don't think you should have a problem between 3.5 and 3.6 installation.
The files, at least on my Linux machine, are in separate directories. LO
3.5 is in libreoffice3.5, LO 3.6 is in libreoffice3.6, and even openoffice
3.x is in openoffice.org3. So, these versions should co-exist on the same
computer without conflict. There has been much discussion about this very
subject in past postings on this forum.

However, the same is not true for your personal configuration (options,
etc.). On my Linux machine, the configuration files are in
/home/user/.config/**libreoffice/3. So, both 3.5 and 3.6 will use the
same configuration directory. User-installed extensions seem to be
registered in this directory also. So, the bottom line is that you may
indeed have to uninstall your ORB extension prior to installing LO 3.6, if
only just to ensure a clean start on 3.6. Alternately, you could rename
this directory to something else temporarily, such as 3.5. That way, if
3.6 doesn't gain you anything, you can always go back to 3.5 by renaming
the directory back to 3 again. (Make sure LO is not running when you do
 this.)

Someone else in this forum may be able to specify exactly when Report
Builder was first bundled into LibreOfiice, but I first noticed it around
 3.5.3.
 Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. I'm away for the next couple of days, so I won't

I take it that Report Builder is part of the download of LO 3.6.5, (which
 I
tried a while ago but ran into problems that I didn't have time to
investigate fully, so I went back to LO 3.5.6.2). If I try LO 3.6.5,
should I remove Oracle Report Builder 1.2.1 before installing 3.6.5?

 I'm running Windows 7 64 Bit.

Sorry about my previous post. Hit the wrong button and sent it

With Oracle Report Builder it does not seem to be possible to have a
 text
field overflow into the next line and push everything below that down a
line. (I'm porting an application from an old Paradox system and this
 was
possible in Paradox reports.) If I make the text box double height in
Report Builder, then the second line appears OK, but most of the records
don't need a second line and end up being double spaced. Is there any
 work
 around for this?

What I have tried is to use a macro to check the length of each text
 string
 ,
and if it exceeds 40 characters then I create a second record to contain
 the excess characters.
I've almost got it working as shown below -

   Date Details
   ReferenceAmount
 01/01/2013 Dick Smith - 3.5mm Plug 14.94, 25 CD
 1363649.92 Dr
Cases $9.98, Headphones $25.00
 N.aN Dr
The problem is the N.aN in the amount column. In the Table this field
 is
blank, but Report Builder displays it as N.aN which I understand means
 'Not
a Number'. I want it to be blank in the Report. I've tried all sort of
possibilities in Conditional Print in the General Tab for that field,
 but
nothing seems to work. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

One final question - is there a better alternative to Oracle Report
 Builder?

I am running LibreOffice 3.5.6.2, Oracle Report Builder 1.2.1 and
 Windows
 7 64 Bit

 Thanks,

I am running LO 3.6.4.3 (Linux) and it has Report Builder version 1.2.3
bundled in. So something has been changed. You might try that upgrade.
Note that Oracle Report Builder is a term that Apache Open Office still
uses for their report builder extension. However, LibreOffice uses just
Report Builder when referring to their bundled report builder
 extension.
So your use of the ORB term is confusing, since theoretically you could
install the Oracle Report Builder over top of the LO-bundled Report
Builder. You need to inform this forum just which RB you are using.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Docx export issues

2013-04-08 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Try using the older Doc instead of the DocX.  DocX is very variable even
between different versions of MS Office and between those different versions on
different Operating Systems.

Pretty much all Doc files (for MS Office 97, 2000, Xp, 2003) look fine in just
about any word-processor.  It would be helpful if MS Office users could save as
the older format when they want to share with other people too.

Another suggestion for them is to get up-to-date and install LibreOffice
themselves alongside their MS Office as it is far superior in many way.  They
can have both on their machines and that will also allow them to easily read a
much wider range of formats more easily.  Having both LibreOffice and MS Office
on the same machine makes a lot of sense nowadays.  Writer is more of a proper
desktop publishing package than Word and even beats Publisher sometimes.

Regards from
Tom :)

Thanks Tom, I'll try with the old .doc format.

Regarding your suggestion, I'll ask them if the can install LibreOffice.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Importing PDF problem

2013-04-08 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Also 2 things;

1.  It might be worth uploading your Pdfs to Google-docs and the opening them
with Google-docs to save as Odt.  Someone here recently said that seemed to
solve all their problems with Pdfs so it would be interesting to see if yours
work too.

2.  if you right-click on images in a Pdf it generally allows you to Save
Graphic.  Of course this way you have to place them again.

3.  If you just copypaste text straight out of the Pdf and into a document as
Unformatted text and then apply styles it might end up with a much more
consistent document but again you would have to follow 2 above in order to get
all the pictures/photos/logos/images back in.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

David,
LibreOffice allows graphics to have placeholders in case rendering such
takes a lot of time when scrolling.  Maybe yours are turned off.  Try
Tools - Options - LibreOffice Writer - View
Under Display, there should be a checkbox titled Graphics and
objects.  Make sure this is checked.
Hope this helps.

page was exported, which is more complicated than copying and pasting
from each page of the draw object.

In the mean time, I've discovered a free conversion site,
www.zamzar.com, and they were able to convert the PDF files to odt (with
the images as bitmaps.  Now here's another strange thing:  I can use LO
to open the converted file and the document looks as I expect; however,
when I insert the file (insert-file) into my larger document, only the
text is picked up, leaving blank spaces where the images should go.

This sounds like a bug, but perhaps there is some setting that controls
this.  One other thing: when I open the single/converted pdf-odt
document, the navigator shows draw objects and graphics objects as 0.

it can surly been automated, import the PDF in draw and then export the

I'm using LO 4.0.2.2 on a slackware/Linux box.  I started the extension
manager (tools-extension manager) and then clicked check for updates.
LO crashes (leaving a core file).  I see:

terminate called after throwing an instance of
'com::sun::star::deployment::DeploymentException'

on the console.

This is 100% reproducible.

If I may add a word.
When trying to tackle a problem / understand a feature I have not used

In this case (chapter 12 of the Writer guide): remove page numbers from TOC.
There is no mentioning of remove page numbers exclude page numbers
delete page numbers etc. as far as I can tell.
The only thing that points into that direction, which I only understood
after advice I got on this list, was the mentioning of

you can delete items from the structure (by selecting and deleting them)

Maybe I am just too slow to get it in the first place.
But I intend to keep trying.
