i do not have an account at owncloud.documentfoundation.org, i am unable to
download the standard.soc. please have a look at the link. according to the

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: ASCII Filter Options - Help please!

2014-01-10 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :(
Sorry about that! I just tried opening the file here but it would
open. Then i renamed the file-ending from .odt to .zip but that
wouldn't open. I tried changing it to .docX on a whim but without MS
Office that was never going to be any different so i don't know why i
even tried it!

I tried opening with GEdit (= a lot like Notepad) but the 1st 2
letters were not PK and then i checked a different Odt that someone
else sent me earlier and that did start with PK. I'm not convinced
about the whole PK thing but it's interesting

I didn't yet try finding some tool for fixing zip files. it might be
worth testing on a copy of a couple of files. There might be an odt
fixing tool around the internet somewhere too.
Apols and regards from
Tom :)

[libreoffice-users] getting larger set of colors that the standard that comes with LO

2014-01-10 Thread Kracked_P_P---webmaster

Here is a question, and answer. . .

How can I add more colors to the list that is shown in Writer and Calc,
when you choose a font color or the background color for a "cell"?

Well you could add one, one at a time, through LO's internal ability to
add colors. That is not the way I am talking about, this time.

There is a "standard.soc" file that is used to store the Hex color code
and name, along with the order that color is in the list.

You can always add a large number of colors to that file. I sure did.

One person on these lists helped me out with this "idea" and I build a
"whopper" of a color list.

Of course there may be some overlapping of colors, but I think that it
is OK, since there are several different color set listed on my file.
Some of the color names and the associated Hex codes might not be listed
correctly, but I was relying on others for these codes and names. I
have a HTML page of color names and codes that are different than any
other list I have seen, but that is OK as long as the color is what you
want, whatever the name is.

One of the color "lists" is the "Branding Colors" for LibreOffice.
Things like the official Green 2 and Yellow 3.

So where is this file located? I have not looked for it, yet on a
Windows system, but you can search for it easily enough. For Ubuntu, LO
4.x stores the file in the following area:

.config/libreoffice/4/user/config

note: make sure your "Show hidden files" option is checked so you can
see the ".config" folder listed in your "Home" folder.

For me it is - - "timothy/.config/libreoffice/4/user/config"
since my home folder's user name is "timothy".

rename the old "standard.soc" file as "standard.soc--old.txt" or
something that shows you it was the original one..

copy the new one in its place.

Well, to get you started, here is the one I use. It is about 2000
colors listings in size. I kept the original color list at the top of
the file and added the LO "Branding Colors" next, then just started
adding other sets of colors I was given.

https://owncloud.documentfoundation.org/index.php/apps/files/download/2014-calendars/standard.soc

The format is shown below.
First the color's Hex code, then the name associated with that color.

draw:color="#70a752"/>Here is a list of some of the colors in the HTML file I talked about
[above] with the interesting color names. I will add them to the
"standard.soc" file, one of these days. How many of you could use one
of the "Chocolate" colors or how about "Snow". "Gold" is always good,
but the list did not have "silver" or "copper" in it. It does have 100
versions of Gray, from the darkest [nearly black] to the lightest
[nearly white].

Yes, you can. I supposed that you used the mailinglist, which strip
attachments, but uploading through nabble is fine.

Unfortunately, none of my tools is able to find any correspondance between
your file and known archive formats. Maybe someone more specialized will
have more luck, but by the look of it I wouldn't hold my breath for it.
As the data looks random, either you've encountered a serious hard-disk
corruption (unlikely to have gone unnoticed by the filesystem itself), or
some malware/virus really altered your data.

[libreoffice-users] European and USA 2014 calendar files

2014-01-10 Thread Kracked_P_P---webmaster

OK
since I was asked to place the calendar files onto the LO ownCloud service,
here are the links to my first version[s] of LO themed calendars for 2014.

This set is for the A4 paper size calendar using Monday as the first day
of the week.
I used the white background LO banner and use LO's green#4 for the
weekend color.

Here is the Letter paper size USA calendar with some USA holidays.
We use Sunday for the first day of the week, or most of us seem to do.
This also has the white background banner and green#4 weekend color.

[libreoffice-users] Digital signatures for macros

2014-01-10 Thread shadebug
Hello,

I've been trying to work out (1) what type of certificate you need for
signing macros and (2) how to get the option to do that.

I've got both a document signing certificate and a code signing certificate
and, after installing them in thunderbird, they both appear for document
signing. For macros, however, I can't seem to make the macros > digital
signatures option enable.

I've enabled experimental features, which gave me macro recording, and threw
in a hello world macro to make sure there was something to sign but digital
signatures are still greyed out.

I'm sure there's an answer but lots of googling and both irc channels
haven't provided one. Can anybody on the list help?

Currently running Version 4.0.4.2 (Build ID: 4.0.4.2-9.el6) on CentOS. Any
help would be much appreciated

[libreoffice-users] test drive the 4.2.x !! Re: [libreoffice-accessibility] Re: NVDA and Libreoffice

2014-01-10 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Wow!! It seems the alpha pre-release versions of 4.2.x branch are
already stable enough to use! People from the Accessibility Mailing
List have already been test-driving it!! That is normal users who are
blind, deaf, etc or partially so. I guess deafness isn't an issue.

4.2.x is still alpha (or early beta) so for most users i would still
avoid it but if you have a machine where you can test-drive without
losing access to your main install on your main machine then it might
be worth trying the "nightly builds"!! I think they are here
http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/pre-releases/win/x86/

I think you get bonus kudos points if you test-drive the Accessibility
features and find anything to post bug-reports about. It is probably
better to join the QA Team if you do test-drive the 4.2.x but if you
are only going for a quick spin rather than seriously tracking down
bugs then there is no need.

Good luck to all and happy hunting!!
Regards from
Tom :))

What do you mean by ZIP repair tools?

I know what ZIP is and I use compression software on both Windows and

This (the ASCII Filter options thing) indicate that LO don't recognize your
file as a valid ODT file. If you let the option as indicated, it mean that
your file is no longer a ZIP file (ODT are zip files), so I fear that their
recovery will be very hard (is possible at all). But, I might be mistaken,
so if one of these file doesn't contain sensitive informations, you could
try putting it online somewhere and link it here, so others may fiddle with
it and (hopefully) find a solution.

However, you indicate that you had a "virus". Do you know which one it was?
(usually antivirus software keep some sort of history). It's not out of the
question that something messed with your file (most likely encrypting
them), as CryptoLocker type of virus got some more activity recently.

Re: [libreoffice-users] failing case for .docx import

2014-01-10 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
I don't think it's fair to ask individuals to post bug-reports against
MS. it's very difficult to work out if it's even possible to report a
bug to MS.

The best bet is just to report the bug to us and try to give us a file
that has the problem. It helps to let our bug-tracking service know
which version of MS and which version of LibreOffice. If people here
are able to try the document on their systems then we might build-up a
picture of which versions have the problem and which don't although
the devs probably have some magic way of figuring that out but even so
it might be nice to help save them a bit of time.

Tom :)

Hi :)
Step 1 = Don't Panic
As you have pointed out your filter options seem wonky. Anyway even
if it's not that the chances are that all your files are fine.

Step 2 = Rename your "User Profile"
This is a bit of a sledge-hammer approach that solves almost all weird
problems especially ones that crept in or suddenly started happening

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile

Of it works it might be possible to do some finessing later. Renaming
rather than deleting means all your old settings, configs, galleries,
templates, Extensions and all that are still there but just cunningly
hidden from the program.

Tom :)

Am aware. To clarify, the usage scenario is to perform this task via
the command terminal, without opening the program graphical userface.

[libreoffice-users] new campaign suggestion; reciprocal bug reporting to m$

2014-01-10 Thread e-letter
Readers,

It is personally tiresome to constantly read: "I received an m$ file,
LO can't read it"; and "I used LO to create an m$ formatted file but
the m$ recipient can't see it", etc..

A suggestion. For each of the above scenarios, let us inundate m$ with
reciprocal reports of: "I saved my m$o spreadsheet to ods and all my
openformula-compliant functions disappeared. Please correct this bug";
or: "I sent a document in odt format to a client that uses LO and they
complained about the poor quality of the document format. Please
correct this error with your m$o software output"...

Equally, please ask the source of the file to save a copy of the
document in odt format, then assist in submitting a bug report to m$
to request their explanation for any data lost when m$o performed the
format conversion to odt.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Help with libre

2014-01-10 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Ahh, nicely done Mark! :) I wasn't looking forwards to trying to
address each separate issue. I can't seem to figure out how to
intersperse replies like that and rarely ever want to anyway. It's
excellent for things like this though :)

Also thanks for mentioning that we are almost all volunteers giving
"peer led" advice. It reminded me of the shock i got when i first
started using mailing-lists/forums for advice. Before that i had only
ever used telephone support which inevitably only gets 1 person's
opinion or tries to follow a script that i rarely fit into. I found
it interesting to get such different viewpoints and inevitably at
least 1 would be a huge help. On the one hand it was a shock to get
such rude answers so often and it sometimes felt like that 1 person
was speaking for the whole mailing-list but then someone else would
appear with a completely different attitude. On the other hand people
seem more interested in solving the problems and discussions even
sometimes run on long after the case is closed. All VERY different
from typical telephone where they have to just close the tickets fast.

Hopefully we have been able to help David solve most of his issues now
but i think there are probably at least a couple things still lurking
or that need further explanation. Also it would be good to get some
of his advice forwarded to the marketing list. Other people have
expanded on or added some points. It's best done by the "original
poster" but would be good if those other people could help support him
on that list. In the past i have tried to represent people's issues
from this list but that got me the reputation of being a troll over
there. They wanted proof the issues had been raised by other people
and when i gave proof they attacked me for posting too much
unnecessary traffic. So, it's better if the original poster, David,
raises the issues but then he might need some support from people
here.

Anyway. David, if you need us to elaborate on any advice given so far
then please let us know. It's great if you can let us know how you
get on anyway, especially since you seem to be solving the problems
now. Further questions are probably best posted as fresh new emails
to this mailing list rather than trying to "reply to all" and then
editing the subject-line. When i have a problem I tend to find it
best to ask questions first and then hit the books and google-it etc,
if i find the answer first then i post the answer to the list to let
people know it's solved. It usually takes people a few hours to
respond as we are all in different parts of the world.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

[libreoffice-users] ASCII Filter Options - Help please!

2014-01-10 Thread Jacob Marioni
Hello. LibreOffice has been wonderful up until recently.

All of my ODT won't open properly. Every time I try to open a .odt file, the
'ASCII Filter Options' comes up. These are all normal text files and this
has never happened before. When the filter options open up its set at:

-Character Set: Western European (Windows -125)
-Default Fonts: Times New Roman
-Language: English (USA)

I just clicked ok to try and start it, but when I do everything is gone and
turned into things like this:

"##’êH`h¤i3Vµe#K†£½À‡T½=E©Å#Ñs#u…^âkÂA¼¾Cé.ì@R÷¤'KÛ‡Ù=·î#¢öÌmÚÎ#Ťáo#íà‘ü,kvÝðŸ#·„Ëa—+ŒîsQíf—R7ÉÇ™#W…#
£#½´i)s‘’5Å=<#Ü(…0âêJªvVuÞŠ=ƒŽKÑ5“F)a¼á>#ÉÖ=Ʊ…'è<¿#LK×Ú#5…ÛpUŒë##“#2#îHLM†1“ŠG>Mò;ì¯mÊ6Ï#
[#€–ªÈ–%[s4*˜

This has affected All my old .odt files. My .txt files are fine. I can make
and save new .odt files fine without this problem happening. The only clue I
have is that all this started happening when I got a virus a few months ago.

I really need help! Thanks!
