Hi :) @ Ernest, errr, if you could upload your screen-shot or file to Nabble that might help get some advice from Alex and the others here. Follow the links to Nabble and in the correct thread reply to any suitable post. Just above where you type in the message is a row of buttons with the last being "More". The top one there is "upload" which works much the same as upload an attachment to an email except that it puts a line of html code into the message. You can move the inserted code around a bit if you need to, or even edit it if you are comfortable with html @ Alex, thanks for the insights and summary there. Alex, Slight correction, Approach was written for OS/2 Warp4 as well as Windoz. I am using ver 1.6 on eCS running in VBox on my Mac. As you say it is very intuitive and easy to make queries. I would change over to Base if it was straight forward, but there's no way Base would be anywhere near as easy to use so I'm sticking to eCS. [libreoffice-users] Help needed with LibreOffice Calc 4.1.3.2
Hi! This is my first time posting to the mailing list. :) A client of mine is in need of editing some Excel spreadsheets on her shiny new Windows 8 system. I installed LibreOffice 4.1.3 and it mostly works but she's not able to do some of the things she used to do with MS Excel 2000. Primarily, she wants to be able to change the color of hyperlinks of email addresses. In MS Excel 2000, she could simply select the column of email addresses and change the color to black or any other color and the color of the links changes. In Calc, we select the column of email address and change the text color to black and the hyperlinks remain blue. I did some web searching and found I needed to edit the hyperlink style, but that appears to be only for cells that use the "HYPERLINK" formula (if that's what it's called) and not on cells that have email addresses listed that aren't using "HYPERLINK" syntax. I have a test Excel spreadsheet (generated with MS Excel 2000) I can send, if necessary. Any ideas on how I can get the color of the email address links to change color? She would like to preserve the links, in the spreadsheet, as she'll occasionally click them to send messages from Mozilla Thunderbird. Also, is it possible to adjust the thickness of grid lines shown in a spreadsheet, if we enable display of grid lines? Thanks in advance! Peace... I just saw on the LibO homepage https://www.libreoffice.org/default/ the great news that LibO gets shown at the CeBit in Hannover. This will expose LibO also to large, medium, and small size enterprises as well as to a very large audience which regards the CeBit as a leading exhibition. How could that be solved ? Let's imagine your values are in columns A to F. o I'm guessing that, if you need only one value per minute, you don't need to know the seconds value of the timestamp. In a spare column, enter =ROUNDDOWN(A5*24*60)/24/60 and fill or copy that down the column. This will round your timestamps to complete minutes. Now copy this column and paste it back over column A (replacing your original values), but using Paste Special... instead of ordinary Paste and ensuring "Paste all" and Formulas are *not* ticked in the Paste Special dialogue. o At a convenient place, perhaps elsewhere on the sheet or on another sheet, create a list of times containing only one value per minute. (I'm going to assume that these values are also in column A starting at row n.) To do this, enter the first two values manually (here 2013-10-11 13:47:00 and 2013-10-11 13:48:00), select both, and then fill them down the column as necessary. Now all you need to do is to harvest the appropriate values for subsequent columns. o In Bn, enter =VLOOKUP($An;$A$1:$F$999;COLUMN();0) (with the real row number in place of "n" and the real final row number in place of "999", of course). First fill this formula down column B. Then select all the relevant cells in column B (containing this formula, as modified) and fill these across columns C to F. How does it work? Then VLOOKUP() function searches the first column of the range of original data for the first occurrence of the appropriate timestamp. When it finds a match, it copies the value from the appropriate later column. Using COLUMN() in place of an explicit column number allows the formula to adjust automatically for later columns. (If your cleaned data are not in columns A to F, you will need to modify this parameter to COLUMN()-1 or whatever.) The final parameter needs to be zero (or FALSE) to indicate that if there is no value for that minute, you will (presumably) want to see an error condition instead of a value unhelpfully harvested from a nearby minute. [libreoffice-users] Help with Base report
Hi, I am new to this list and need some help with Base. Can anyone help me to create a list report which has one field that may expand to more that one text line? Most lines of the report in the detail report section are just one line deep. However, a few fields may wrap round to more than on line, so the height of the corresponding text box needs to be expandable and, of course, the height of the detail section as well. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: having 2525 defined colors to choose from within LO
Some colors may have different names, depending on language and geographic regions. Some colors have different spellings, depending on the language used. Also, the real problem is that some color names are defined differently by regions or who you get the color list from. I have seen Aqua a little darker than Cyan, cyan being one of the primary printer ink colors and the name of aqua is not. So they are not interchangeable in some applications and my need different "acceptable" names for different applications. I have seen Gray spelled both ways, but gray is what I use since my American English spell checking in Thunderbird tells me "grey" is misspelled. Other languages may use "grey" instead of the other spelling. Some duplicates may be in color sequences, so they need to stay. Some are not and can be removed. Some non-working colors will be fixed or removed [as the case with the colors I was given]. Some of the colors only have a hex code for their names, since those colors are a sequence of color shading and did not have names assigned to them. I feel that just calling them things like "red hue 15 shading 3" would not be any good, since it would be a made up name. Yes, all of the names have been made up, but I will not create names for these colors, like "rosemary pink" or "coral sea foam green". How paint companies come up with these color names is a mystery to me. Of course, some say there are too many colors to choose from. Some would like more colors. I was thinking about looking into more colors and their shading towards white. The red hues need to be found and the shadings. Maybe some of the named colors could be placed in hue order instead of alphabetical order. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

I took the original file and added the LO branding colors, and decided to go from there. With the help from a fellow user, added some colors to that list from some I had and some he had. I added gray and 99 different shades of it - i.e. 1% to 99%. At that point, I still wanted more. I found colors like Gold, Silver, Bronze, Brass, etc. and added them in. Then I added the colors from a set of color tables where they took one color and kept lightening it up 6 times, for a total of 7 color blocks. There were 7 colors per table making each one 77 colors. This added 462 colors to the color blocks you see. So now, I have 2525 color blocks, if my count is correct. For Ubuntu users, you have to look into the hidden dot folders to find the "standard.soc" file. ".config/libreoffice/4/user/config" where it is on other systems, I do not know. I have not added it to my Windows systems, yet, but will find the file later. So here is the download file link. It should work fine, but I am still new at using the "ownCloud" system. https://owncloud.documentfoundation.org/Common/QA/New-Colors/standard.soc--jan-19--10_26am---2525-color-blocks.txt Total colors in that file : 2525 Total unique colors in that file: 2366 The following colors are named more than two times: (color # is found 6 times, color #80 is found 4 times, etc) # color 6 00 4 80 3 0066cc 3 008080 3 00 3 33 3 66 4 800080 3 808000 3 99 3 b3b3b3 3 c0c0c0 3 cc 3 ff 3 ff00ff 3 ff4500 4 ff9966 5 66 3 ff -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted Okay, I downloaded the file to my HD. It is a .txt file. I used locate to find the standard.soc file on my machine. It is in .xml format. I moved the original standard.soc file to standard.soc.old. I copied the standard.soc--jan-19--10_26am---2525-color-blocks.txt to the same location and renamed it standard.soc. It's in html file. I guess I should get to the question now. What am I supposed to do with that file? The new one should be renamed to "standard.soc". Then restart LO. The .xml and .html files are actually text files, but they have "controlling tags" withing them to make them usable as .html and .xml files to other packages. This is the same with many program coded files. The .soc file had the extension of ".soc" but reads as a text file in text editors.

[libreoffice-users] Donations and Contribution
Hello. I have been using LibreOffice for some time now (ever since it started coming pre-installed in Ubuntu) and I have found it to be an extremely functional and comprehensive Office Suite. I would like to donate to this project at the moment (monetary) since my exams are coming up and I do not have time to contribute in any other way, at least, at this point of time. I live in India, and I am confused as to how I should make a donation. I cannot do it via PayPal because I do not have a PAN Card. Is there a surefire (and if possible, convenient) way for people in India to donate? [libreoffice-users] Too many choices - not only colors
Hi, some time ago Kracked_P_P--webmaster has asked about possibilities, how to add more colors to LO. While there should be possibilities, how to do that, my problem is quite opposite. For me, there are too many colors to choose from. I am lost in the (for me too large) table of colors. For example, I do not know how to choose a color, which is the same as some text elsewhere. It is even not possible to compare the colors visually (color perception depends on neighborhood). So I have to try several times to hit the right one. I even filed a bug on this back in the OOO times. Nothing has happened, so I found my way how to choose colors. However, in LO42 there is a new color table. A nice one, with sorted colors. For me it is completely useless. I thing that common users like me need something very simple: a list of colors used in the document, the last (used or picked) color, and a "more" button). A similar situation is with line thickness - we can specify any thickness in mm (or inces or whatever). I would prefer just a few steps between very thin and very thick plus user specified value. I've file a bug about this (https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=48622, with dialog mockup to LO. What do you think about this? - perhaps I am the only one who has this problem Milos -- email & jabber:sramek.mi...@gmail.com -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

I take it you exported the data as a ".csv" file and > that is what is looking like a flat spreadsheet? Lotus Approach saves its databases as an APR file extension, but the actual data is stored as a group of DBF tables. Any binary (e.g. image) data or extended character data (Memo fields, etc) are stored in a separate DBT file which is referenced in some way by the APR file and thus appears in the DBF file that contains the binary field. It was/is for its time a brilliant piece of kit that held its own with Access and FMPro. It had an accessible UI and form builder, had a fairly competent SQL parser, and could even be scripted with Lotus Smartscript. In fact, from the user perspective, it was "intuitive", everything which LO Base is not. I fully understand why people have stuck with it. However, it was essentially, single OS (well it did run on OS/2 as well for a while in Windows compatibility mode), as the software was provided for the Windows platform only. I appear to have succeeded but the result > is what looks like a spreadsheet and I cannot find a way to display one > record at a time. 1) How did you transfer the database ? LO can not read APR files per se. 2) LO can read the dbf files that Lotus Approach creates to store its data : - by default in Calc, the spreadsheet component, this might be what you are seeing on your screen, but you don't give enough detail to clue us in a bit more - however, this will not be a database, and there are known issues when re-exporting (i.e. saving) your data from Calc in DBF3 format ; - you can import the dbf files into a new LO Base file, using the database creation wizard, and choosing "Connect to existing database". DBF should be in the drop down list of selectable db types. Make sure that the tables you want to connect to are all in the same directory. When importing multiple DBF tables into an ODB file (LibreOffice database file), you will lose all relationship constraints. DBF support in LO does not extend to multitable queries, foreign key setting or relational integrity. You will lose all your forms and queries. You might be able to export your queries from Approach as SQL (haven't checked), but if they involve joins, they will no longer work in LO. The only way I know of currently, at least on Windows, to have multitable DBF queries with LO is to use ODBC, which means you would have to find a driver that will work for you. Note that once you have created your ODB file referencing DBF tables, you could re-import them from the DBF/ODB by drag and drop into a default embedded hsqldb ODB file of your making (File > new Database), and then reconstruct the key constraints, queries and forms.
