Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: “No default printer found. Please choose a printer and try again”
Dear all, I updated to LO 4.1.2.3 and then to LO 4.1.3.2 whithout the printing problem arising. While installing LO 4.1.4.2, the following message appeared (in Greek): /The following applications use files to be updated by this installation:// // //Microsoft Windows Search Filter Host //(Process Id: 3896)// // //Close the applications and press Resume //installation to continue//./ I started the Task Manager, selected 'Show processes from all users' and indeed noticed the above process running. It vanished before pressing End Process, which allowed me to resume installation. The installation stopped again showing a similar message, this time about processes 3616 and 3732, which, however, I didn't identify in the Task Manager. After a while, I pressed 'Resume installation' once again. When the installation finished, there appeared no printing problem. [It is worth noticing that a similar message had appeared the first time I upgraded to LO 4.1.4.2 and at that time I opted to abort installation, restart computer and install LO 4.1.4.2, which produced the printing problem.] Finally, I updated to LO 4.2.0.2 without experiencing the printing problem. That kinda means closing the Quickstarter (which i always avoid anyway (except on Windows)) Pinpointing exactly which version first had the regression sounds like it might help the devs quite a bit! It is really disturbing that the 4.1.4 doesn't work but the 4.1.1 does. We don't normally get that type of regression. We do occasionally get a regression in a newer branch, such as the 4.2.0 (especially when it's still pre-release) but generally the sub-point releases don't add new features or stir-up lurking problems. I know you have done a LOT of work already but is it possible to post a bug-report about this? Also is it possible to test-drive the 4.2.0 easily and see if the problem is also in there? Errr, that 2nd request is more work than i expect anyone to put in but if it's really easy then it might help. Similarly for Pedro's requests to try the 4.1.2 and 4.1.3. I think those are less important than trying the 4.2.0 because the regression might have already vanished in the new branch. https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport LibreOffice usually has 2 branches. One that is stable branch and one that is kinda new features and extra compatibility with MS Office formats, errr branch. We don't seem to have a short and snappy title for the 2nd branch. Obvious contenders, such as development branch, are inadequate or just plain completely wrong. Both branches are actively developed so a newer release could be in either branch. Errr, to cut a long story short = if the 4.1.1 worked then the 4.1.4 should also work but the 4.2.0 might not. This is roughly like everything working fine in Win7 or Xp but suddenly finding problems with Win8. So what is disturbing here is that it's happened in the middle of the branch = like turning on an Win7 machine one day and it suddenly not working for no reason. [libreoffice-users] Calc - can't open table in asp page
Hello everybody , I have an intranet page where people push on a button and there for people using microsoft excel as default application for spreadsheet automatically they have an excel sheet opened with the table extracted from the page addressed by the link associated to this button (a link like http://server/htmlpage.asp;). After installing Libreoffice Calc, if calc is closed , nothing happen on the screen , but I can see that 2 process are started soffice.exe and soffice.bin. Also after more than 10 minutes nothing happen on the screen. If Calc is already opened , the calc windows become gray and it stay blocked. In fact after pushing on the web button we have a first popup asking us to open or save. With open we have the blok, if we use SAVE and we rename the file as html type , than we can open it with Calc (we have first a popup asking us for automatic language for import) and we only need to press OK. That last solution I guess could be only used as workaround. In your opinion could be a bug or I need to do something to avoid Calc freeze (options or something else) ? test done with S.O. Re: [libreoffice-users] Too many choices - not only colors
Hi :) Workarounds. For colours i have been using Gimp's external colour-picker. (click on the foreground or background colour blocks in the appropriate vertical toolbar and the pop-up dialogue-box has a stubby pipette). That gives me the html, rgb or cmyk colour-code for whichever program i need to use that same colour in. MS Office makes it easier. Just select an area of text in the colour you want to figure out and click on the colour selector. The appropriate colour is highlighted. (but it doesn't give the html, rgb or cmyk values and only works for the standard colours and not ones from their colour-circle or elsewhere) Oddly it's not difficult to copypaste from MS Office to LibreOffice without losing or changing the colour of the text! Anyway, Tim's recent work means i can miss out the step of using MS Office so it's all a LOT easier for me now! :) Thanks Tim! :)) Regards from Tom :) On 20 January 2014 10:46, Milos Sramek sramek.mi...@gmail.com wrote: Hi, some time ago Kracked_P_P--webmaster has asked about possibilities, how to add more colors to LO. For example, I do not know how to choose a color, which is the same as some text elsewhere. It is even not possible to compare the colors visually (color perception depends on neighborhood). So I have to try several times to hit the right one. I even filed a bug on this back in the OOO times. Nothing has happened, so I found my way how to choose colors. However, in LO42 there is a new color table. A nice one, with sorted colors. For me it is completely useless. I thing that common users like me need something very simple: a list of colors used in the document, the last (used or picked) color, and a more button). A similar situation is with line thickness - we can specify any thickness in mm (or inces or whatever). I would prefer just a few steps between very thin and very thick plus user specified value. Primarily, she wants to be able to change the color of hyperlinks of email addresses. In MS Excel 2000, she could simply select the column of email addresses and change the color to black or any other color and the color of the links changes. In Calc, we select the column of email address and change the text color to black and the hyperlinks remain blue. I did some web searching and found I needed to edit the hyperlink style, but that appears to be only for cells that use the HYPERLINK formula (if that's what it's called) and not on cells that have email addresses listed that aren't using HYPERLINK syntax. I have a test Excel spreadsheet (generated with MS Excel 2000) I can send, if necessary. Any ideas on how I can get the color of the email address links to change color? She would like to preserve the links, in the spreadsheet, as she'll occasionally click them to send messages from Mozilla Thunderbird. Also, is it possible to adjust the thickness of grid lines shown in a spreadsheet, if we enable display of grid lines? Thanks in advance! Peace... [libreoffice-users] Formatting Errors in Calc
LibreOffice Version: 4.1.3.2 Build ID: 410m0(Build:2) on Kubuntu 13.10 Background: I use KingSoft Office Spreadsheet for Android on my phone because regrettably LibreOffice Calc for Android is not usable. KingSoft uses and saves .xlsx files. From time to time I upload one of these files to my Linux computer to enhance the layout. I use LibreOffice as noted at the top of this post to perform the enhancements. Problem: Formulas that evaluate to text strings are being displayed as a formatted zero value. Examples: • A formula that evaluates to 14.01.16.xlsx according to the Function Wizard displays as December 30, 1899 instead using a date format code. The formula is supposed to display the file name without the path. Since CELL(filename) formats the information differently in Kingsoft Office vs LibreOffice the formula tests the structure of the returned string and extracts the file name accordingly. The LibreOffice part of the formula is: =MID(CELL(filename),FIND(C1,CELL(filename),1)+LEN(C1),FIND('#, CELL(filename),1)-( FIND(C1,CELL(filename),1)+LEN(C1 ))) • A formula that evaluates to according to the Function Wizard displays as $0.00 instead using a currency format code. The simple formula is: =IF(ISNUMBER(F20),IF(F20C20,C20,),) This is a new phenomenon. To answer the question, what has changed, the only changes I've made to LibreOffice since these cells displayed correctly to try the 2525 color pallet mentioned in another thread on this list. The changes were in directory: .config/libreoffice/4/user/config/ • I moved file standard.soc to standard.soc.std and replaced it with a copy of standard.soc--jan-19--10_26---2525-color-blocks.txt following which I restarted LibreOffice. • After seeing the problem I am reporting I restored file standard.soc from standard.soc.std and again restarted LibreOffice. The problem is still there. After each restart I took a look at the Background Colors pallet and saw what I expected so I know that each change took effect when tried. Does anyone know what I should do next to resolve my problem? -- Jim -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Hi :) Perhaps increase the memory settings in Tools - Options - Memory Crashes used to be associated with java usage most of the time. Can you try switching java off? Tools - Options - Java/Advanced and untick the tick-box at the top so that a Java runtime Environment is not being used in LibreOffice. If you ever get an error message asking for you to use java in LibreOffice then it should be reasonably easy to tick the box again. Hardly anything needs java now. It's only Base now and only then if it's using the internal back-end.
