Just enter your identity data into the options page:

Just setting your intials should suffice.

[libreoffice-users] can not copy paste from web in libre office writer as the images do not load

2014-09-18 Thread Rajwinder kaur
Dear Sir,
I am unable to copy and paste the web pages in libre writer.
i am trying to copy a web site information into libre office and the images
do not load , in place of images I only see the links to images and when I
try to break links the images still do not load.
Images only load when I connect to Internet, but I want to save files so
that I can use them while I am off-line.
Kindly provide me solution for the same.
I have tried it on libre office 4.3 on windows xp, and 7 also on ubuntu
12.10 in libre 3.6.2.2.

Thanks & regards:

Re: [libreoffice-users] Multiple Forms In HTML

2014-09-18 Thread Hal Vaughan
I thought I had replied to this, but I don’t see any record of a reply from me.

I’m quite visual, but operate in different "modes." When I’m writing or doing
layout design, I *have* to have things simple and intuitive and for layout, I
need to see things as I move them around. But once I get into "programming
mode," I can deal with HTML directly and have no problem with a more complex
text editor or even vi or emacs - but there’s no way I could use one of those
while writing!

I’ve looked at Bluefish, but for my initial work, I need a good WYSIWYG setup.

For now, and for the foreseeable future, I’ve decided I’ll use LibreOffice for
HTML for the initial version - until I get it looking like I want it. Then
I’ll keep two copies of each page I’m working with. On one I’ll use
LibreOffice and do the visual editing. Then I open both versions in a text
editor as I copy and paste and manually edit the HTML code for the other "live"
version with all the form data and so on included.

Overall, yes as Alex says, LibreOffice, as an HTML editor, is crippled. At
some point I have a question on another issue I want to post relating to the
HTML editor and how converting to HTML can seriously mung the whole layout of
an ODT document. (But that’s a whole separate issue.) Unfortunately,
Dreamweaver has the market and I don’t want to spend a ton (or, as it is now, a
monthly subscription) for it and I can’t find a good HTML editor for OS X for a
lower price.

So thanks for the thoughts and comments, everyone. For now I’ll just use my
"split" approach and do the visual, then keep the pages separate so I can keep
my forms and such intact.

LibreOffice will do this. Being familiar with MS Word the method would not
be what is expected.

Four page styles need to be used for the scenario as you've describe.
page 1: a "front cover" page style
page 2: a blank page style
page 3: an "ODD pages" style
page 4: an "EVEN pages" style

I believe, based on the description of front cover and page 2 the same
could be accomplished with only three page styles.
page 1 & 2: the default page style (this includes headers and footers but
if they aren't used their presence shouldn't matter)
page 3: an "ODD pages" style
page 4: an "EVEN pages" style

Writer has several included page styles that should support this
requirement. They are "Default Style", "Left Page", and "Right Page".

Create the cover. It will be using the Default Style page style.

With the cursor at the last element on the cover page (use the keystroke
Ctrl+End to be sure you're at the last part of the cover page)...

Select from the menu "Insert | Manual Break...",
Select the "Page break" option and for Style select "Default". Click the OK
button.

The cursor should now be on the 2nd page.
Press enter once (I don't know why this is needed but it is the only way I
could make it work).

Insert another page break via the menu. This time set the Style to "Right
Page". The cursor will be at the top of the 3rd page.

The third page of the document will have the "Right Page" format. As
content is entered and it fills this page and goes onto the next the next
page will automatically have the "Left Page" format applied.

These instructions were composed with reference to LibreOffice 4.2.6.2 on
Ubuntu 10.04.

This is why there was so much nonsense with the introduction of OOXML

Typical MS.

The hiding extensions is a pain and if you choose to use the non-default

packages GIMP no longer saves graphics in the "standard" formats, but
requires you to export them, and now uses their one proprietary format
for the save option. So with Windows hiding option you will not easily
know if you made a mistake and saved the file and not exported.

There are a lot of issues that can come up if you do not un-check the
auto hide option for extensions and many other auto hide uses.

Re: [libreoffice-users] calc: Find has never worked for me

2014-09-18 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Ahh, so if it's on Linux then maybe the Find box has moved onto a different
workspace?

Another option might be to reset the screen resolution to make everything
ridiculously tiny?

Is it possible to move windows/consoles by grabbing them anywhere but with
the Alt key pressed down? That might avoid the need to find a
grab-handle.

Is it possible that the Find box is somehow underneath the Calc window??
That would be a bit crazy.

Errr, that's all i can think of!

The basic "Find" is just a toolbar (usually at the bottom of the screen,
but you can move it as with any other toolbar). It has a text box to
enter the text to search for and a button to open the Find & Replace
dialog. If the toolbar is already there, you may not notice much change
on screen, but the cursor should move into the text box where you can
enter a search query. Is that happening?

When I press Ctrl F, the left margin moves, but do find prompt opens.

I'm not sure what margin you're referring to? This is in Calc, as per
the email subject, not Writer, right?

Does is say "Ctrl+F" next to the Find... option on the menu? It may be
that Ctrl+F is currently mapped to a different function. Check Tools >
Customise > Keyboard and make sure Ctrl+F is mapped to Find when
"LibreOffice" is selected to the right of the list, and nothing else

depending what you're using at the time).

When I enter edit->'Find & Replace ...' then Find and replace box opens
and I use it. When I press Ctrl H (For Find & Replace), nothing
happens.

Again, check that it does say "Ctrl+H" next to the menu option, and
check the keyboard shortcuts as above.

Mark.

OK, here goes:
1) I am in CALC, When I press Ctrl F, the collum with the row numbers
moves to the rights about 3/4" anlong with the whole SS (margin was not
a good descriptor).

Ah... it seems that it's possible to move the Find toolbar to the left
edge of the window, which has that effect as the spreadsheet content
moves to make space for it when you press Ctrl+F. But it's not
particularly useful in that position, since there's no space for the
text box to actually enter what you want to search for! Try dragging the
grab handle on that toolbar and moving it somewhere else - either
floating or docked at the bottom or top.

2) I am familiar with the Find text box, used in other apps. That is
what I have looked for-not found.

I thought that was probably the case, but figured it worth checking
before looking for more complicated things.

3) When I select the edit->find menu item, the cursor disappears. I
tested this by placing the cursor in the edit box, where it flashes.
When I select find, it disappears. When I select a cell, there is no
cursor flashing, so when I select the find option, nothing changes.

That also seems consistent with the Find toolbar docked at the left edge
of the window. The cursor moves into the Find text box, but that's not
visible (although it does actually still seem to work - you can type
something and press enter, and Calc will search for it; you just can't
see what you're doing).

4) Yes, the Find option in the menu shows Ctrl+F as a shortcut.
5) For 'find and replace' the shortcut shows ctrl+H.

OK, so those sound OK.

I have not remapped any keys, as I rarely use the shortcut keys, as I
don't want to loose my memory for the WordStar keys used in Wordstar and
Borland Pascal.

If you still can't find the toolbar, it may be worth resetting your
LibreOffice user profile. This will clear any user settings (hopefully
including whatever has happened to the Find toolbar), as well as any
added dictionary words, custom colours, etc. so it's a good idea to back
up your existing profile first. See
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile ("Resolving corruption
in the user profile" section) for instructions.

If that fixes the problem, the easiest is probably to keep that new
profile and redo or copy any settings you need from the old profile. It
may be possible to compare the two, work out what made the difference to
Find, and reset just that part of the old profile, but that's more
tricky (if you try it, make a copy of the old profile first, so at worst
you can always get back to the current situation).

If resetting the user profile doesn't help, I'm afraid I'm out of ideas,
but post back here and someone else may be able to suggest something.

Re: [libreoffice-users] set different header/footer for even/odd pages

2014-09-18 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Thanks! :))

In LibreOffice "styles" become really useful. They use a very different
system from the styles in MS Office which i always found created tons of
problems and never solved anything.

I found that just a few minutes of reading up about them saved me hours of
work collating articles from different sources and fitting them neatly into
my company's (well, my bosses company) newsletter. What used to take the
previous chap a couple of weeks with MS Office (and took me about the same)
now takes a couple of days at most and i can do other things at the same
time too. I've got a feeling that if i used LibreOffice for the content
and then moved it into Scribus for the weird bits of the layout then it'd
probably take just 1 afternoon.

The better implementation of styles in LibreOffice is partly why documents
produced by LibreOffice tend to look so much better than ones produced in
MS Office. Numbered lists don't have extra numbers or missing ones.
Bulleted lists keep the same-sized bullets. Both stay lined-up under each
other. Much less struggling against sudden weird changes in formatting.

Regards from
Tom :)

Tom's pointers are good. As a summary, you'll need using styles. This
style thingy is the cornerstone of LibreOffice Writer, Draw and Impress,
still very useful with Calc as well. Remember, using Writer, 95% of
questions have the "style" word as an answer.

For your needs, you'll have to create or adjust the four following page
styles:

-- one style for the first page (there's one preset that you might want
to edit to your liking). Its "next" property will have to be set to the
"blankpage" style below.

-- one style for blank pages(let's call it "blankpage") (its easy to
create one, see the docs). As the blank page will be an even page, its
next proprerty will have to be set to the "oddpage" style below.

-- one style for the odd pages (let's call it "oddpage"). Its "next"
property will have to be set to the "evenpage" style below.

-- one style for the even pages (let's call it "evenpage"). Its "next"
property will have to be set to the "oddpage" style above.

Once these exist, dealing with subsequent pages is a breeze: the "next"
properties take care of the page changes.

[libreoffice-users] Documentation Team needs reviewers for 5 chapter of Writer

2014-09-18 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
The documentation team needs 5 chapters to be reviewed, ie checked for
accuracy (not writing anything, usually).

It could be different person for each chapter so you can sign-up to do
just 1 and then see how it goes. If 4 people joined the team we could have
the full guide published in a week or so!

Reviewing is the stage where you just check that when the guide says "click
on this" that it does what the guide says. Mostly you can probably confirm
just from memory but it's good to click through a random sample just to
check.

Since it's the Writer Guide it's been through a lot of proof-reading and
such so it's likely to be extremely good already.

There is also an opportunity for someone to go through and replace all
screen-shots as most current ones were done in Windows. Generally it's
preferred if screen-shots are done in Mac or Linux (preferably Linux) jic
there are ever any copyright issues. (Apple has less reason than MS to
start anything ridiculous like that. Linux has no copyright issues).

Doing screen-shots is more fun than just straight reviewing but involves a
bit of faffing around so racing through doing a straight review is more
helpful at this stage.

Anyone up for it? If so please join the

Hi,
yes, it can be hard to find file extensions. That's one of the first things I
set up on any new computer. Here's how to do it (windows7; Win 8 is probably
similar):
1) in a windows explore window, click 'organize' and choose 'folder and search
options.'
2) in the 'folder options' dialog that opens, click 'view'
3) UNcheck the box that says 'Hide extensions for known file types.'

Hope this helps,

This is why there was so much nonsense with the introduction of OOXML in
MS Office - as "display file extensions" is off by default (why one
wonders?), people were sending OOXML documents to recipients who had MSO
2003 or earlier, not knowing that the document was *.docx instead of
*.doc, and of course the recipients couldn't open them!

Typical MS.

I think the only problem is the "leading zeros" definition.
The function itself is correct, but it has to be intended as "number of
digits of the cell, filled with leading zeros"

Re: [libreoffice-users] set different header/footer for even/odd pages

2014-09-18 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
For the first page the Faq gave me this link
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Faq/Writer/003
Hopefully when doing that you'll stumble onto how to do odd and even
pages. In my really brief skim through the Faq for Writer nothing leapt
out at me but i'm fairly sure it's not tough once you've started looking
into "Styles and Templates"

The main Faq is at
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Faq

Full documentation is at;
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications
See the "Getting Started Guide", pretty much any version will do for this
but that link often lets you get the most version even before publication.
The GS guide is fully published but if you scroll down you see others that
are "works in progress". It's the chapter 3 in the GS guide that might
help the most.

An easier link for published guides is
http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/
but it only lists guides once they are fully completed.

Regards from
Tom :)

Re: [libreoffice-users] autofill in calc

2014-09-18 Thread Gary Collins
Thanks Brian and Tom for your answers.

I often use calc as a simplified database, where Base would be an overkill, and
there I would often want several successive cells (vertically, corresponding to
several records) to have the same value.
Another problem is that it also works on strings which end in a number, so if I
have "string001" and use autofill, I get "string002, string003" etc.
I guess sometimes this can be useful and sometimes not. Your tip for holding
down control should help there, too.

And I still think it's inconsistent - the 'wrong way round!'
I'll check out edit>fill sometime, it sounds interesting.

Thanks again
/Gary

No answer to your general points, but a few comments:

>autofill, the 2 is incremented to 23,4,5 etc., i.e. there is an

Two points here:
o It is generally bad practice to repeat the same value a number of
times: it can be a recipe for mistakes. If you need the same value in
multiple rows, it should appear in any necessary formula either as a
constant or a reference to single cell elsewhere. Having it in a
separate cell also makes it easier to modify, if that becomes necessary.
o If you really do want to autofill cells without increment, you can
do so by holding down Ctrl whilst dragging the fill handle.

In addition, you can do cleverer things by first selecting the result
range and then using Edit | Fill > | Series... .

I trust this helps.

Re: [libreoffice-users] CANNOT INSTALL LIBRE OFFICE SUITES

2014-09-18 Thread Gary Collins
Hi,
yes, it can be hard to find file extensions.

Hope this helps,
/Gary

Subject: Re: [libreoffice-users] CANNOT INSTALL LIBRE OFFICE SUITES

Hi :)
Finding the "extension" or "file-ending" is difficult on Windows. They try
to hide useful information like that.

On Xp, Vista, Win7 i think you can find out by hovering the mouse arrow
over the file and a tool-tips kinda yellow-box appears with tons of
information in it. It might be tricky to figure out which bit is the 3-4
letter file-ending/extension. So another way is to look at the window that
shows the files&folders (we call it a file-browser) and click on
View - Detail
Now one of the columns after the file-names gives a brief indication of
what the "file type" is.

It might well be possible to 'simply' change that file-ending/extension in
order to get the installer to work. However it is probably a lot easier to
just use a standards-compliant web-browser such as Firefox, Chrome, Opera,
Safari or anything else other than "Internet Explorer" (perhaps on a
different machine?)

These links might be better but they probably need you to be using a ;

Windows version, English (Uk), well English (GB)
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-still/?type=win-x86&version=4.2.6⟨=en-GB

Windows version, English (US),
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-still/?type=win-x86&version=4.2.6⟨=en-US

I'm not sure why MS seems averse to properly implementing internationally
agreed standards, such as ISO standards, even when they have been heavily
involved in drawing up some of those standards in the first place! It
seems to lock people into buying into the MS products(sometimes called a
"vendor lock-in"). Another neat trick is that they seem unable to
implement the same non-standards spec in any 2 versions of the same thing
so people have to keep buying newer and newer versions of the same thing in
order to be compatible with each other.
Regards from
Tom :)

Re: [libreoffice-users] Reducing defect density from 1.1 to .08

2014-09-18 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Sorry for the delay and for the lack of further responses! I felt sure
that other people would jump all over this thread!

I was trying to look-up direct links for the things i was talking about but
due to ill-health only got as far as
"
The link to LOWN is
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/LOWN
"
It 'should' be fairly easy to find things, such as from the main website
"Get Help" - "Mailing lists" - devs irc channel
or something like that.

Apols and regards from
Tom :)

[libreoffice-users] set different header/footer for even/odd pages

2014-09-18 Thread Rafnews

Hi,

I would like to set different headers and footers according to page types.

for example:
page 1: should have no footer or header as it's a front cover
page 2 is blank so no footer or header

page 3: since this page, all ODD pages should have a particular header
and footer (not the same as EVEN pages)
page 4: since this page, all EVEN pages should have a particular header
and footer (not the same as ODD pages)

In fact, i'm looking for something like in MS Office i used before
however i don't know if it's possible in LibreOffice 4.3.1.

Any help would be great.

thx.

A.
