Re: [libreoffice-users] rtf files

2014-09-28 Thread Tim Lloyd

Hi Carole,

I tried the following on Fedora Linux 4.3.1.2:

 * open a new document
 * format page to include 2 columns
 * populate the columns
 * save as .odt
 * Close and reopen - all good
 * Save the doc as .rtf
 * Close and reopen - not so good. The 2 columns are maintained but the
   contents are in different places.

Is this what you are seeing?

FYI I removed 4.3 and installed 4.1. The problem is not apparent with
the older version. I have some old versions stored away so I can drill
down and find when exactly this problem occurs and report to the
bugzilla (I can't see anything obvious there).

Let me know if we are on the same page.

Regards

Surely you can see what sort of thing happens simply by trying out the
various forms and dragging the connected items around? The standard
connector appears to use only horizontal and vertical element, whereas the
line connector allows diagonal elements.

In my version of LibreOffice, 4.3, only the "connectors" shows up in the

drop down menu, not the "line connectors". I found the "line connectors" in
the Impress guide (4.2) and in the UI 4.3 text files (UI.po).

o Click the down-arrow next to the Connector icon in the Drawing toolbar
to bring up the Connectors toolbar.
o Drag the toolbar off its parent using the bar at its base.
o Click the down-arrow in the Connectors toolbar and use Visible Buttons >
or Customise Toolbar... to vary the options shown. Note that Straight and
Curved Connectors are also available.

Alternatively, right-click an existing connector and go to Connector... .
You can change the type there, as well as making detailed modifications.

I trust this helps.

[libreoffice-users] Top Window without Decoration on Ubuntu

2014-09-28 Thread X Roemer

Hi,

I try to get rid of the window decoration on Ubuntu, but can't find a way.

Here's how it looks like on Windows:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/rvc3ftjrdeh2cx4/LO%20on%20Win7.png?dl=0

and this is on Ubuntu:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/fp4z1ceeleqxwr5/LO%20on%20Ubuntu.png?dl=0

I did set the flag for the window attributes to 512 (no decoration), but
I'm still getting close bar on top of the window.

If someone wants to have a look on the code, my window is created with,
it's here: (line 294 and below)

https://github.com/XRoemer/Organon/blob/master/source/py/menu_bar.py

Thanks for any help,
Xaver

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: Base Document - Forms

2014-09-28 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Superb! Thanks :)

Errr, if you are "up for it" then it would be great if you could join the
Documentation Team to help review or proof-read the Base Handbook.

For many people i suggest starting with something more familiar before
diving into Base because there is quite a lot else to get used to when
joining the Documentation Team. We do still have a couple of chapters of
the Writer Guide left but in your case i think you could jump straight into
working on the Base Handbook.

I'm trying to keep the first few chapters available for a new person to the
team so that he can learn about Base as he goes. The more people joining
in the better! Especially people who have experience with databases such
as you and Peter G.

Thanks for the advice though! On another mailing list people suggested
that it might be something wonky about the import filters for the date
format (the devs did some work on them in the 4.1 branch) or that Excel
might not be properly setting the date-field. Your pointers give
additional options.

So, thanks and regards from
Tom :)

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: Base Document - Forms

2014-09-28 Thread Paul
I've got some experience with various databases, but little with
Access, sorry.

Given the OP exported the data from Access once, I'd assume that it's
possible to export to csv format instead of Excel spreadsheets, and I'd
recommend that. Then importing into Base should be straightforward, and
formatting shouldn't be lost. Access might even give some options for
the export formats, but worst case the data can be massaged in Calc
before importing into Base, say to change the date format.

If the OP is still having trouble with this, he can try posting a
couple of lines of the exported csv file, and we can see if there is a
reason Base is not importing it correctly.

This does sound like it should be possible with the method he is using,
but it's much harder for me to debug. If he's using plain csv files,
just posting a couple of lines would give me an idea of how the data
looks, and I could test on my machine, which does have Base, but not
Access.

And if he wants to go to MySQL/MariaDB/PostgreSQL, again using csv
files should be pretty straightforward, even if it does mean command
line and queries, and not a GUI interface. Although those exist, I'm
just not as familiar with them.

[libreoffice-users] Convertir csv en ods

2014-09-28 Thread Jean-Francois Nifenecker
Bonjour,

(Win7-64 -- LibO 4.1.4.2)

j'ai à convertir des fichiers csv (texte délimité) en ods.
Pour ce faire j'ai pensé utiliser le mode --headless de soffice.exe avec
l'option --convert-to ods
La ligne de commande est :
soffice --headless --convert-to ods monfichier.csv

Merci,

[libreoffice-users] bug segnaled in 4.3

2014-09-28 Thread Paolo Debortoli
a debian user has written on a mailing list that differently from version 4.2,
in the last 4.3.2.1 version the ordering function (right click -> sort) in calc
is not working yet (I haven't verified it by myself at the moment actually).

Re: [libreoffice-users] problems with the spell checker

2014-09-28 Thread Tim Lloyd

Hi,

this list does not accept attachments. However, if you nip over to the
nabble interface:

http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Users-f1639498.html

that does accept attachments so you can post there.

Cheers

[libreoffice-users] Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: Base Document - Forms

2014-09-28 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Has anyone here got experience with migrating Access databases to Base?

I have a strong feeling that migrating the Tables to Postgresql or
MySql/MariDb would be a better first step.

I'm not sure what platform Peter is on, sorry.
Regards from
Tom :)

[libreoffice-users] Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: Base Document - Forms

2014-09-28 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Errr, obviously if he's using Access then it must be Windows. The only
other platform that MS Office has been able to port to was Mac and they
weren't able to port Access were they?

Anyway, i think that mean Peter could use some help porting an Access
database to either Postgresql, MySql/MariaDb or into Base itself and on
Windows.
Regards from
Tom :)

[libreoffice-users] Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: Base Document - Forms

2014-09-28 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Ok, so the Documentation Team have got an example database for Peter to
work with in the short-term but the question of how to migrate an Access
Database would still be good to get some hints and advice on.

Is there anyone who can help with this?
Regards from
Tom :)
