Re: [libreoffice-users] Double sided printing-again

2014-12-21 Thread Steve Edmonds
In LO Options>Load/Save there is a setting for load printer settings
with document. Have you had a look at that.
My understanding is that to load specific printer settings in a default
document (from the default template) the box should be ticked and the
printer settings should be saved in the default template, but I may be
wrong.

CUPS is installed, v1.5.3and LibreOffice 4.2.6.3.

problem that no
printer settings entered through LO are saved. I should be able to
pick my printer

choice each time.

A small extra step, but irritating.

But here is an interesting observation. CUPS shows the printers

I'm not sure if you want the number of days on the spreadsheet, or the

The original poster seems intent on using the wrong tool, to achieve the
wrong outcome, for the wrong reason.

* The output must be in HTML.
Thus, they want to use Write.
What they don't appear to know, is that the HTML produced by Write does
not conform to any known standard. Consequently, the odds are that
whatever is used to render it, will not display the way the creator
intended it to display.
(The OP claims that HTML is the only file format that the recipients are
assured of being able to view.)

* The content is to be emailed to people.
HTML is large, even before images, audio, and video is embedded in it.
(At one point the OP implied that there were wanting a video in the
document.)

* This is a business plan.
For business plans, autoplay is always a fail.
Both Impress and Write enable audio and video content to be embedded,
that is started by the user. IE: non-autoplay.
If the intended audio, or video content is meant as a demo, then it also
needs to be submitted as an auxiliary to the business plan.

#
I do know of one reason why autoplay of audio in a write document is
"required". I consider that usage to be immoral, unethical, and in most
jurisdictions, a violation of the law of the land.

Has LibO, and all of the libraries, and other things it calls, been
vetted for:
* string overflow conditions;
* race conditions;

This includes anything that LibO might call to play audio files, video
files, images, and graphics.

When I had problems with this using Ubuntu and an Epson printer, I had
to wait till the OS updated the drivers, CUPS and others, to fet double
sided printing and even scanning to work.

For Linux, it could be the driver. If it happens with Windows, then it
is the way it is setup in the printer driver options - like using
Postscript level 3 instead of PDF as the default.

If you're referring to 'hiding' slides,
then these slides should not produce any flash; the PP should
merely skip right over these.

Could you have inserted a slide which appears for a fraction of a
second?; this should show in edit mode though.

Could the video itself be so embedded with that elusive split-second
slide?; a video editor may or may not be of any help - if this is the case,
then you might end up either not correcting the problem or deleting part of
the video.

Sorry, you've not understood my question; maybe I was unclear.

On one slide on the middle of a presentation, there's a video placed
("Insert | Movie & Sound"). While editing, this shows either some
arbitrary frame from within the video or a grey box with a question mark
(well, you need to see something to grab!). Call this 'Exhibit X'.

The video plays automatically when the slide appears.

Looking more carefully, it appears that when this slide is shown,
'Exhibit X' is shown while until slide transitions are complete, then
the video runs. 'Exhibit X' is shown briefly even if there is no
transition set. It also reverts to 'exhibit X' after the video is done
and while while the slide disappears.

This makes an unacceptable flicker at start and end of the video.

Incidentally, I've just been trying the presentation on a 32-bit laptop
- similar problem, except I /also/ get a white flash. (Embarrassing when
I'm using it in front of a dedicated Powerpoint user :-( )
