Hi Cor,

Thanks for your helpful reply – I'll give that a shot first of all and
see :)

Copy an ODF file to the desktop -- Writer .odt, or Calc .ods--

Right mouse click and select "Open with"

On the context menu select "Choose another app"

On the selection dialog -- if a LibreOffice module does not show at the top
meaning it is associated with the file type, in the "Other options" section,
select "More apps" and select LibreOffice.

Can use the generic LibreOffice, or a specific module (i.e. Writer, Calc,
Impress) as appropriate for the file type.

Be sure to check the "Always use this app to open xxx files" (xxx is the
detected file type/extension).

That shuld do it.

[libreoffice-users] [Writer] LO Writer RANDOMLY erases my formulas

2016-01-06 Thread Paul O. Seidon

Hi all,

I've read this quite a few times in the Internet and it bothers myself
for around 3 to 4 years now, since I decided to move from LATEX to
LibreOffice:

Formulas get randomly erased.

There are two scenarios:

1. Create formula, exit it, formula is displayed, everything seems ok.
But wait, I forgot something, so let's reedit it. Double click and - the
formula editor shows an empty pane. Nothing there. Press Escape, which
hopefully cancels. Man, no chance, the formula is gone.

2. Edit a document with formulas. Come back later and some formula are
shown as empty boxes. Double click on the empty box, empty formula
editor. This happens randomly to random spots in the document, no matter
were in the dox you are currently working

As for (2): Now guess what if you have a doc containng around 500 pages
filled with formulas! Of course I use sections, where sub dox are pulled
in. But this is annoying to say the least!

Any ideas how I can help the devels to find the related bug?

Paul

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Making liberoffice as default

2016-01-06 Thread Tim---Kracked_P_P---webmaster

Also
there is a setting in LibreOffice that you may want to look at.

go to "Tools - Options - Load/Save - Microsoft Office
and make sure the boxes are checked.

Here is a question - what currently opens up for your document[s] if not
LibreOffice after it was installed?

I run Win10 on laptop and desktop, and I do not use anything else for
office file. If you did use some other packages for "office work", most
cases installing LibreOffice should change the associations from the
previous packages. If it does not, then you will need to look at the
"Load/Save" options and then manually associate the file extensions to
LibreOffice, like V. Stuart shows in his post.

Also, did you do a "standard" install or opted for the "custom"
install? I tend to use custom installation for every package that I
install on Windows, as part of my "security methods". You would not
believe some of the items that some free software tries to install on my
Windows systems if I do not use custom installations. The only reason I
do this for LibreOffice is to control the different dictionaries I want
installed to my Windows systems.

Re: [libreoffice-users] [Writer] LO Writer RANDOMLY erases my formulas

2016-01-06 Thread Remy Gauthier
Hi,
I experienced something similar with inserted images with V4.X of LO. I
would happen - sometimes - that inserted images would be replaced by an
empty placeholder (like an empty frame). The only way I thought I could
use to recover was to erase the placeholder and re-insert the image
until I realized that this would occur when:
- the image was anchored to a paragraph or the page
- the size of the image was not margin-friendly (maybe just a bit too
wide or too high for the page)
Since then, I always anchor images as characters and make sure they fit
in the margin area of the page and the problem has stopped happening.
When I got the "empty placeholder problem", I would change the
anchoring and the size of the picture and it would re-appear.
I don't know if formulas will behave the same way, but you could start
there.
Good luck.
Rémy Gauthier.

[libreoffice-users] Macro help

2016-01-06 Thread Steve Edmonds

Hi.
I am hoping someone on this list is a lot better with accessing Calc
functions in a macro than I am, I have have struggled with this for a
day and resorted to a cheat in frustration.
I had an equation 300 characters long in a group of cells and decided to
replace it with a function as it is something I use on a regular basis.

The macro (below) looks up the first column of named range RngName to
find the position of value and interpolates between the tabulated data
before and after value to determine an interpolated number cdgv at
value. I have yet to add any validity checking.
The cheat I added was to pass the first column of RngName as its own
named range for use in the MATCH function.
In a sheet I can use =MATCH(472,INDEX(CdG1data,,1)) where 472 would be
value, CdG1data would be RngName but I just can't get this to work in my
macro.

Function VLinterp(value, RngName, offset, firstcol)
REM firstcol is named range first column of RngName
   fc=createUnoService("com.sun.star.sheet.FunctionAccess")
   rowBefore = fc.callFunction("Match", Array(value,
ThisComponent.NamedRanges.getByName(firstcol).ReferredCells))
   v1 = fc.callFunction("Index",
Array(ThisComponent.NamedRanges.getByName(RngName).ReferredCells,rowBefore,1)
   v2 = fc.callFunction("Index",
Array(ThisComponent.NamedRanges.getByName(RngName).ReferredCells,rowBefore+1,1)
   cdg1 = fc.callFunction("Index",
Array(ThisComponent.NamedRanges.getByName(RngName).ReferredCells,rowBefore,offset)
   cdg2 = fc.callFunction("Index",
Array(ThisComponent.NamedRanges.getByName(RngName).ReferredCells,rowBefore+1,offset)

   cdgv = cdg1+(cdg2-cdg1)*(value-v1)/(v2-v1)
   VLinterp = cdgv
End Function

Any help appreciated,
Steve

Re: [libreoffice-users] Macro help

2016-01-06 Thread Andrew Pitonyak

Steve, I know a little bit about macros and I am willing to take a
look, but, I am trying to avoid having to create a sample document to
test what you are trying to do and I have very little time.

can you send a sample Calc document to "and...@pitonyak.org"

If possible:

1. Add your macro to the document.
2. make sure the document contains the named range with appropriate
data.
3. Indicate exactly what parameters should be used to call the function
and what you expected the result to be.

I know, it is a lot to ask, but otherwise I need to set all that up
myself and I think it would be much faster for you (since you probably
already have this).
