have been a problem with Opensuse provided 5.0.4.

Thanks for the checking and getting me to a stable version.

Aha - you nailed it on the head. The person who built the document used
an internal file:// refernce, nd the inaccurate message popped up. When
I added a second link with the correct web URL it worked fine (though
strangely enough I could find no menu choice to allow editing the URL
that was previously there!)

This happens, for example with a link like "htp://www", i.e. a wrong
protocol identifier.

Hi Ian,

I'm sorry, but crashing and subsequent corruption of an ODB file that
links to a mysql database does not lead to dataloss of the linked mysql
db, or at least it shouldn't if you know how to manage your mysql db. At
worst, you can mess up your forms, lose your query definitions and
report setups, but that's about it. Yes, with embedded hsqldb, dataloss
is a known problem, but not with an external database.

Why not separate out your forms from the ODB file if you are concerned
about the stability of the ODB file itself ? It is perfectly possible,
you can still link to a mysql db and you won't have the issues of
screwing up your ODB just because the power goes off, or your network
goes down, or some other life-event that seems to befall computer users
on a daily basis.

You could look at Dabo (a python based UI interface to mysql dbs), or
webforms using Ruby, Rails, or PHP. They all require some kind of effort
to obtain a "usable" solution. Even the MySQL UI admin tool has a simple
Form view mode, where you can enter data in what looks like a form -
sophisticated it isn't, but it works !

In fact Firefox is set as default and doing a command click on a link
from Writer works fine.

From looking at the code (shell/source/unix/exec/shellexec.cxx,
sfx2/source/appl/openuriexternally.cxx) that error message can
misleadingly be presented also when a browser /is/ found, but something
else goes wrong when trying to open the hyperlink with the browser.

Marc, what is the hyerlink's exact URL? (In Impress, select the

open copy the content of the "Target" field. Alternatively, you can
