Please enlighten us. I'm just now having a similar problem.\
I've tryed =TEXT(b3,"###.##") and just the formula appears in the cell.
I've tried =ABS(b3) and just the formula appears in the cell.
I'm guessing there's some switch to change from displaying formula
to displaying result; however, I've no clue where to look :(

It finally dawned on me that the column was formatted as Text.
When that was changed to Category=All, Format=General, things
started working.

I don't know how, but there should be some way to hint to
the user what to do when a cell which looks like a formula
is not a formula.

-regards,
Larry

[libreoffice-users] How to fill in "Read filter criteria from"

2016-09-24 Thread Larry Evans

I selected Data>Filter>Advanced Filter; however,
I had no idea what to do next. I selected Help button,
which sent my browser to:

https://help.libreoffice.org/index.php?title=5.1/Calc/Advanced_Filter=en-US=UNIX=5.1#bm_id3151113

which was, again, no help.

How do I fill out the "Advanced Filter" dialog?

-regards,
Larry

Hello,

I can’t figure out why I have certain cells displaying the formula and not the
results.

I’m using calc version 5.0.4.2.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Spelling check funnies

2016-09-24 Thread anne-ology
my question has been/is as to why anyone would use a spell checker
...
I think we should reinstate phonics in schools so the youth can
once again learn how to read & spell; reinstating Latin & Greek as well.

Hi All,

I read the forum regularly but this is my first post. It's only
light-hearted but I don't see why that should be against the rules.

Using the spelling checker in LO Writer version 5.0.5.2 on Windows 7 Pro, I
recently passed over a fairly common English surname, "Ainsworth".

The spelling checker gave some wonderful suggestions, namely Wandsworth,
Wadsworth,

AIRWORTHY,

WORDSWORTH,

UNSEAWORTHY and

NEWSWORTHY (my capitalisations).

Has anyone else found some funnies. If so ,why not share them? The forum
does not have to be grindingly technical all day every day.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Get number of items in a calc's sheet filtered list

2016-09-24 Thread Bruce Hohl
Make sure "View > Status Bar" is checked. That information is displayed in
the second part of the status bar at the bottom of Calc but only when the
focus is within the range of data being filtered. At the bottom you will
then see something like: | Sheet 3 of 4 | 55 of 1425 records found | etc.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Page formatting in writer goes nuts

2016-09-24 Thread Bo Siltberg
I have noticed another odd behaviour which may be related to the "picture
problem" vs page formatting.

I have a page in my large doc with only text. This first picture shows the
content when the document is freshly loaded.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzKxVP7gn2uTTTJSdzBBUkNRQ00
Then, after a change somewhere (that does not affect the page count), bot
sure exactly what triggers it, it becomes
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzKxVP7gn2uTT3ZJdzA1cHp3U2c

Notice that the spacing between the lines has increased and that the last
line from the first picture now has spilled over to next page.
Of course, this creates seemingly unmotivated changes in the page
formatting.
Anyone has an idea what is going on here and if I can influence this
behaviour?

Thanks

[libreoffice-users] Get number of items in a calc's sheet filtered list

2016-09-24 Thread Daniel A. Rodriguez
I've been asked about this and can't find an answer yet. The 'other'
software shows something like "found X from Y records" and the need is
to find something like that.

Any clue?
