Traditionally monospace fonts have serifs becuase it makes it easier to
balance the spacing of the letters and so make the text easier to read.

Decoration of the digit 1 and the letter lower-case l is to avoid the
confusion between the two. Much as the various features used to
distinguish between the digit 0 and the letter upper-case O.

My copy of LO under Tools/Options/LibreOffice/Fonts has a dropdown for
Automatic or a particular font, and it has a check box for
Non-proportional fonts that is set, and which I assume it is using to
populate the dropdown, since I see only monospaced fonts in the list.

If you have these settings and it has selected a font that is not
'Non-proportional' then I suggest you investigate to determine whether:

- some proportional font has an incorrect attribute, causing it to be
  included in the list, or

- LO is ignoring your setting

In both cases a bug report would seem to be appropriate, but where it
goes depends on the diagnosis.

I strongly suspect it's so people can differentiate between 1 (the
numeral) & l (the letter) without having to resort to 'trickery'.

I found it in the Tools → Options dialogue. It was set to Automatic and to
only include mono type fonts, but in spite of that, a non mono type font
was selected. I just selected a mono type font (Droid Sans Mono), which is
the only one I found so far that is true Sans Serif. Many Sans Serif fonts
have a serif in the ones (1), for some strange reason, which I find
inconsistent and ugly. Anyway, my problem is solved now and I'm happy with
the Droid Sans mono until I find an even better one. Just strange that a
non momo type font was selected when set to Automatic, I don't have a clue
why that happened.

[libreoffice-users] Font in Basic IDE

2020-06-26 Thread Johnny Rosenberg
Today when I opened the Basic IDE for macro editing, I noticed that the
font changed. I'm not sure which one it is now, but maybe FreeSans or
something, but it used to be one of those mono fonts, and I want my old
font back. How do I change font in the Basic IDE?

Kind regards
