Re: [libreoffice-users] Static vs. dynamic time
Was looking for options on this, but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. Closest I've found is Ctrl + ; that inserts current date and Ctrl + Shift + ; that inserts the current time. Both seem to be the fixed value? But have found no way to do that in a formula?? Recall long ago in either Lotus or Quattro, you could use now() and then {Calc} and it would convert the current time to the fixed value. But that was long long ago. Macro recorder doesn't seem to record that kind of stuff, and entering formulas don't either. Re: [libreoffice-users] Static vs. dynamic time
When I have needed a static date or time in Libreoffice Calc, I have found that the only way to do this is to enter the date or time directly into the spreadsheet and not to use a formula. As an example of this, I have been using Calc to measure the drift of timepieces compared to a time standard at weekly intervals over a 26 week period. I pre-enter the dates at which the measurements are to be made. At the required date, I simply enter the time as shown on the timepiece and the time as shown on the time standard at the same instance. These times are then converted to seconds and the difference between in seconds is then calculated and charted to show the time drift. These times and dates are static and can be used for later referral. I am not sure if there is a way to use a formula or macro to enter a static date. If there is, it is beyond my capabilities. Entering dates and times directly seems very straightforward to me. I tried looking for a static version of NOW() or playing with iterations (probably not correctly) or looking for a way to stop recomputing this specific column to no avail. Is there a way to set on column B the time of the typing on each line of column A and keep it as a static time. This is a simple question but unfortunately does not appear to have a simple answer. But - like with your other question - you can do something using a recursive formula. Enter into B1 =IF(A1="";"";IF(B1="";NOW();B1)) Once again, you need to have Tools | Options... | LibreOffice Calc | Calculate | Iterative References | Iterations ticked. This almost works, in that if A1 is empty and you enter something there, then B1 will change to record the time. But if you now simply overtype what is already in A1, B1 will not change. There is an easy workaround, however: before typing your new value into A1, just press Delete to empty A1 (B1 will now be empty too) and then enter your new value (B1 becomes the new time). So far, I am forced to type or insert the time manually each time. No longer! I trust this helps. Re: [libreoffice-users] Static vs. dynamic time
Some disappointment: Now I'm not so sure any more that this is possible. My idea was to check the currently selected cell, but it has two big flaws: 1: When updating cell contents, any cell can be selected. 2: ThisComponent.CurrentSelection.getValue() seems to always return 0 in a situation like that, no matter which cell is selected and no matter its value… but even if that part worked, the whole thing wouldn't work anyway, see 1. So I simply failed to make it work. Sorry. In my Google Spreadsheet, I have a script that fills in the corresponding cell in column A if one of a few cells in the same row was filled, but there doesn't seem to be any (easy) way to trigger a macro to run when a cell was changed in LibreOffice. Maybe trying with listeners, but I never studied those so I'm totally clueless about them. In Google Spreadsheets you only have to create a function and call it OnEdit(). It will run every time a cell is changed. In that function, you just write code to find out what cell was changed and if a cell in a certain column or cell range was changed, just fill in the current date and/or time value in your time- or date column at the same row as the cell that was changed. It's actually very straight forward. Anyway, odd that I couldn't find an easy way to do it in LibreOffice Calc. I'm sure it's possible, but I don't have a clue how to do it, at the moment. I'm sure I'm overlooking something. This should be easy, shouldn't it? A few simple workarounds that comes to mind: Use the pre-defined keyboard shortcuts to insert date, time or date and time. I don't remember the shortcuts now, because I changed mine (to Ctrl+↵ for date), but maybe it is Ctrl+; that is the same as in Excel? Another workaround is to use the NOW() function and when finished just select all date cells and then hit Ctrl+c Insert ↵. Ctrl+c for copying the cell range, Insert for Paste Special (or is that just another one of those keyboard shortcuts that I changed on my own setup?) and ↵ for executing the paste. Or write a macro that replaces all date cell's formulas with their values automatically and run it before saving your spreadsheet. Or maybe let the same macro also save the spreadsheet and use that macro instead of Ctrl+s for saving. As others have said, the cell, does not "contain variable numbers", but only the single value (or expression) that is there at the time. The trouble is that MAX() compares 2 different cells, whereas I want the maximal value of one cell. No, you don't. A recursive formula such as =MAX(A1;B1) would probably not work, and returns an error 523 indeed. Actually, this works: read on. At 07:18 02/10/2020 -0700, Chimel Noname wrote: A cell with a formula can have a whole "history" of values that change every now and then. No, the cell has just whatever is in it now. It has only one value at one given time, it's this value that I want to compare with its previous values so I can extract the maximal value the cell ever reached. But the previous values have been overwritten by the current one, so are no longer there. Actually, you have solved your own problem. If you want to keep a record in B1 of the largest of all the values that have appeared in A1, then putting =MAX(A1;B1) into B1 would appear to work - as B1 has kept a record of that part of the history of A1's values that you need. But the logic is recursive: evaluating the formula changes one of its parameters, so the formula potentially needs evaluating again. How many times should this happen? The process might never terminate. In this case, you want the calculation to happen once only, but how can LibreOffice know that? All you need to do is to permit recursive calculations, which you do by ticking Tools | Options... | LibreOffice Calc | Calculate | Iterative References | Iterations. Then your formula works. I trust this helps. Thanks, Brian. The formula I mentioned earlier works now. I tried the Iterations settings before, enabled and disabled it with different values (step, min), but when I clicked on the Reset button to restore the default options, it actually only restores the previous values I played with before, not the LibreOffice "factory settings". These previous values of 1 for steps and min return the error 523 I mentioned. I tried step=100 and min=0,001, and my formula (the same you mentioned) works just fine. So the formula was fine all along, it's the Iterations settings that were incorrect. Problem solved, thanks to everybody who helped and sorry if I was not clear. -- Sent from: http://document-foundation-mail-archive.969070.n3.nabble.com/Users-f1639498.html -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ Privacy Policy: https://www.documentfoundation.org/privacy

It has only one value at one given time, it's this value that I want to compare with its previous values so I can extract the maximal value the cell ever reached. -- Sent from: http://document-foundation-mail-archive.969070.n3.nabble.com/Users-f1639498.html -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ Privacy Policy: https://www.documentfoundation.org/privacy

What do you mean by 'the maximum value' of a cell? It sounds like you think cells have a history of their contents? That's not the case. A cell has a value. If you then enter a different value in the cell, it has the new value. It does not 'remember' the old value. (Notwithstanding the ability of the UI to 'undo' editing - that's something completely different). So the entire notion of the 'maximum' value of a cell is meaningless. > For instance, A1 contains variable numbers, and I want to store the > maximal value of this cell in B1. > The trouble is that MAX() compares 2 different cells, whereas I want > the maximal value of one cell. > A recursive formula such as =MAX(A1;B1) would probably not work, and > returns an error 523 indeed. > > Is there a way to store the maximal value of a cell using a formula, > preferably? > > Thanks, > Chimel. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ Privacy Policy: https://www.documentfoundation.org/privacy
[libreoffice-users] Static vs. dynamic maximum
Hi, I must be of a conservative mind today, because after the message about static NOW(), I am also stuck with extracting the maximum value of one given cell. For instance, A1 contains variable numbers, and I want to store the maximal value of this cell in B1. The trouble is that MAX() compares 2 different cells, whereas I want the maximal value of one cell. A recursive formula such as =MAX(A1;B1) would probably not work, and returns an error 523 indeed. Is there a way to store the maximal value of a cell using a formula, preferably? Thanks, Chimel. -- Sent from: http://document-foundation-mail-archive.969070.n3.nabble.com/Users-f1639498.html -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ Privacy Policy: https://www.documentfoundation.org/privacy
Re: [libreoffice-users] corrupted font name and size display in format bar in Calc

The size should be 10 but it looks like both 20 and 10 written in the same space at same time. Equally the font name should be Liberation Sans but it too looks sometimes like a combination of two names. This is less common that the font size corruption. If I highlight a cell and click the font size dropdown, the correct size is clearly displayed. If I then select another cell, instead of displaying 10 it looks like a mix of 10 and 12 (not 20 and 10 as when first opened) until I again click on the dropdown. If I close the formatting bar and reopen it, the corruption is back. Hi Philip, Exactly the same issue here but not only in Calc but also in Writer, Impress and Draw. No old documents needed to reproduce it. Just open any of these modules, type in some characters so that you have at least two different fonts and two different font sizes. Then point the cursor in the text to the different fonts and font sizes and that's it. I am currently using Xubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu Studio 20.04 and Ubuntu Budgie 20.04. I downloaded LO 6.3.6.2, LO 6.4.6.2 and LO 7.0.1.2 from libreoffice.org and installed them in an external hard drive so that I can access these installations from any distro. The issue only occurs when running these installations of LO 6.3 or LO 6.4 from Ubuntu Studio; it does never happen with LO 7.0 (regardless of the distro) and it also never happens when running any of these same three installations of LO from Xubuntu or from Ubuntu Budgie. Thanks for your confirmation, JPS. I can confirm that I get the effect in Writer too. I hadn't noticed it before but you're quite right. Interesting that you get the poor display only in UbuntuStudio and even using downloads of LO direct from libreoffice.org. I made a fresh, clean installation of UbuntuStudio 20.04.1 at the beginning of August and my experience with it so far is that it is the worst since I started with this distro back in 14.04. I have some applications that take 32 seconds to start up regardless of whether it is the first start or an n'th start since bootup. I had xscreensaver which wouldn't kick in until I disabled the startup script that came with the distro. Some applications do start normally but some are always slow and some of these slow ones were part of the distribution and not something I installed later. Maybe it has something to do with the fact announced by UbuntuStudio that their dev's were pretty well all working with Kubuntu and the KDE Plasma desktop. 20.04 was their last planned release with the XFCE desktop. Anyway, it does not appear to be a subject for this discussion group and would be more correctly dealt with on the Ubuntu forums. [libreoffice-users] Static vs. dynamic time
Hi, I use the formula IF(A1<>"";NOW()) copied to every cell of column B. It gives me the correct time every time I type anything on a line of column A. But this is refreshed constantly by the time of the computer, not the time I typed something in column A. I tried looking for a static version of NOW() or playing with iterations (probably not correctly) or looking for a way to stop recomputing this specific column to no avail. Is there a way to set on column B the time of the typing on each line of column A and keep it as a static time. I am usually good with formulas, but this very basic need escapes me. As far as usability is concerned, a STATICNOW() function seems much more useful than the current NOW() function. Or inserting a 0,1 argument for staticness or something. So far, I am forced to type or insert the time manually each time. Let me repeat it: Manually each time! Me! ;) Thanks, Chimel. -- Sent from: http://document-foundation-mail-archive.969070.n3.nabble.com/Users-f1639498.html -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ Privacy Policy: https://www.documentfoundation.org/privacy
Re: [libreoffice-users] Can you please associate my extension to me?
FWIW, the MODIFIED flag is apparently the status for unpublished extensions (maybe you changed something but the extension file?). And after pressing the button again it shows up now on the page. Or do you talk about the "Manage your extensions" section, which is empty for me for some reason. In any case you are welcome to file a ticket on https://redmine.documentfoundation.org/projects/extensions/issues Cheers, Heiko -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ Privacy Policy: https://www.documentfoundation.org/privacy
