[libreoffice-users] Remove Standard Toolbar

2023-09-02 Thread John Jason Jordan
LibreOffice:
7.3.7.2 LibreOffice Community
Ubuntu package community
1:7.3.7-0ubuntu0.22.04.3

I regularly use Writer, but seldom any other part of the package. When
I use Writer I want as much vertical space on the screen as possible,
while still being able to read what I'm writing, in spite of the fact
that the display is 4K widescreen. I want to see as much of the full
page as I can. Toward this end I have removed all toolbars and other
stuff from the top of the document window; with the couple of toolbars
that I need floating to the right of the window. All that is at the top
of the document window is 'File, Edit, View, Insert, etc.'

Recently, for some reason that I do not understand, the Standard
toolbar keeps popping up, floating in front of what I'm trying to work
on. This toolbar contains 32 icons, starting with New, Open, Save,
Export as PDF, and more, none of which I need, because for each such
function I use either a keyboard shortcut, or I go to up to the File,
Edit, View, Insert bar, or I have an icon for the function on the
custom toolbars that I do keep floating to the right of the document.

It's trivial to click and remove the Standard toolbar, but a few minutes
later it pops back up again. It also presents itself with every new
document and every time I open a document.

How can I permanently nuke this annoyance?

Thanks.

I have started to figure it out, though not completely.

When I click on the icon, it shows me an open file. for some reason they
have been minimized. The minimized file appears on the desktop, but it goes
in the upper left hand corner on my dual screen system, right where trash
is. and it is hard to tell, but I can then drag it and enlarge it, and
things are back to normal.
What is still unclear is what caused this to happen, for I have no
awareness of anything I did differently.

Assuming you did not install the Flatpak version:

Go to the folder with the calc document in it.  Right click an empty
space and select "Open in terminal".  Then type this in the terminal and
enter:

libreoffice --calc

Does calc open?  If so, close it.  Is there any response in the terminal?

Then type this in the terminal and enter:
libreoffice --calc

Replace with the filename.
Does calc open?  If so, close it.  Is there any response in the terminal?

When I open a spreadsheet, the icon appears in the margin, but I cannot
actually open the document and get it to display. It must be a setting I
have somehow changed, for I used to be able to open up a spreadsheet, but
not any more.

Clearly, the file is somewhere, but I am not getting it to open up and
display on the screen.

When opening a Calc spreadsheet, is the name of your file at the very
top of the window?

Example: BlahBlahBlah.ods - LibreOffice Calc

[libreoffice-users] problems on Ubuntu

2023-09-02 Thread Rogier F. van Vlissingen
This year, I switched to Ubuntu, and I am having a problem with the opening
of spreadsheet and other Libre Office files, though not with Writer, which
is what I use the most.
