[libreoffice-users] Can't insert citation (Zotero)

2023-09-27 Thread John Jason Jordan
I have recently installed SparkyLinux, based on Debian Stable, and it
came with LibreOffice 7.4.7.2 installed without choice in the default.
The default, however, did not install Zotero, which I absolutely must
have. The distribution's repositories have Zotero 6.0.27, so I
installed it, and later I replaced it with Beta 7.0.0.42. When I launch
Writer I find the Zotero toolbar in View > Toolbars, and it looks
normal, but when I click on it to enter a citation nothing happens; no
error messages, nada. There is also a button for Add/Edit Bibliography,
but it also does nothing.

The installation added a launch entry for Zotero, which brought up my
hundreds of documents, so I guess I haven't lost anything yet. But it
would be really nice if I could use it.

The only literature I can find says that installing Zotero
automatically links it to installed word processors. In my case I must
characterize that as wishful thinking.

Some have said that you must have Java installed. OpenJDK came with
the operating system, and LO finds it, with the 'Use' button checked in
the Advanced window. However, below that is a little place which is
supposed to list the provider of the Java, and it is blank. Furthermore,
if I un-check the 'Use' button, a few minutes later it becomes checked
again, all by itself. Weirdness abounds.

I have Zotero.oxt from a previous LO, so I added it in Tools >
Extensions, but it didn't make any difference. And 'Add Extensions'
produced an Unofficial Zotero add-in, which I also installed, also
without accomplishing anything. The Add Extensions option also offered
the official extension from Zotero, but it doesn't actually download an
.oxt file. I'm not sure what it did, but whatever it did resulted in no
change.

I need my Zotero! Can anyone offer suggestions?

Yes - attachments get stripped off. You can put a file up on another web site
and post the link to it in your message on this forum.

I have found that, for unknown reasons, a number of the cross

required 12. My various attempts to change this size do not work.
How can I increase the font size in reference numbers in the
bibliography?

Attached to the mail is a printscreen of a piece of the bibliography
with different font sizes. Numbers [345]-[349] have a font size of 10,
unlike other numbers. Cross-reference numbers inserted in the text
itself, as well as the entire text, are in font size 12.

Attempts that didn't work:

1) Left-click on any of the numbers, highlighting the entire field of
numbers - and change the size from 10 to 12
2) When deleting the text of a paragraph in the reference list, the
cross reference number returns to font size 12, but inserting/typing
any character in the area of that paragraph returns the reference
number size to 10.

The old version of LibreOffice 5.3.6.1 is used (rpm packages in CentOS
7). So a large number of hotkeys, unfortunately, do not work.
But I guess my question has nothing to do with CentOS at all.

PS. I don't work professionally with LibreOffice.

Why are you top-posting a new post instead of responding to what
aguador wrote? Please learn email etiquette (and bug reporting
etiquette!)

And why are you ignoring the suggestion, given that is what is already
posted as a workaround in the bug report you linked to? If it won't
work for you, you need to explain why.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Assembling a Master Document.

2023-09-27 Thread Philip Jackson

When you create a new master doc, you have a blank page. What the instruction
indicates is that the navigator should be showing just a single TEXT entry.  I
just checked, and that is what it says.

Now write something in that blank doc that is text. Then you should modify that
text style to correspond with what you're using in your sub-docs so that when
they're imported, they automatically use the correct style.

Step 3: I just tried and it works as advertised.  Click and hold the insert
icon and you see it gets focus. Or you can just click the little arrow to get
the drop down menu. A small box displays with options: Index, file, new doc,
text.  Select 'file'. An 'Insert' dialog box opens and you can navigate to the
sub-doc you want and then click 'Insert'.  The sub-doc is inserted into the
master doc and an entry appears in the navigator.

Philip

Still something wrong. Everything in the drop down is still greyed out. I'm
running lo 7..5.6.2 on Ubuntu 23.04 if that makes any difference. What are you
running?

I'm running 7.3.7.2  in UbuntuStudio 22.04 LTS  and I've also got 7.5.5.2 on a
Wi8ndows10 box. Both of them behave same way. There is just one peculiarity I
spotted on both boxes, in order to get the insert icon at the top of the
Navigator pane to offer you some options, you need first to click on the 'Text'
entry in the Navigator pane to highlight it and then on the insert icon. Does
that help?
