Re: [libreoffice-users] LO version 7.6 shows 7.5.5.2

2023-09-28 Thread Paul D. Mirowsky

Logout and then login. Check menu for two installed versions.

I am using Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS - Gnome 42.9

I always install from LibreOffice direct download of package which
leaves the old version listed in the menu system and installed.

I use synaptic to remove the old version. Logout, login and then the old
version is gone from menu.

I imagine Thunar is similar.

Hope this helps.

What's going on here?

Thanks.

Progress!

Zotero support documents always say that integration with word
processors happens automatically when Zotero is installed. They
also say that if the toolbar is not working (my exact problem), it is
because Java is not installed. So I uninstalled the Beta version of
Zotero, and then installed the regular version, from the Debian
repositories, as before. When I restarted LibreOffice I noted that in
Tools > Options > Advanced the pane (empty before) showed the three
different Javas that are installed here. Yay!

But the bad news was that then the Zotero toolbar was completely
missing. Previously it was there, just not functional. So LibreOffice
saw the Javas, but lost integration with Zotero. To fix this I started
by reinstalling Zotero, hoping that it would automatically integrate
with LO. But that failed. So then I went to Tools > Extensions and
tried to seek additional extensions. I had tried this before, so I knew
that a search on 'Zotero' would bring up two: an Unofficial extension,
and one with the Zotero logo boldly in the middle. The Unofficial one
downloads an .oxt file, which I added, but I still had no Zotero
toolbar. The Official one appears to do nothing; no files downloaded,
just a link to a repository, and none of it made any difference. But I
still had the old .oxt file from a previous LO installation, so I
installed it, et voilà, my toolbar is back, and now it works!

There is only one tiny problem remaining: The Zotero toolbar now shows
no icons, only text. If I click on the text for something, it works, but
the text takes a lot of space. I think that this is a problem somewhere
in LO that is unrelated to Zotero. I'll poke around, and I'll probably
find it eventually.

Thanks to all for listening to this long story. :)

The regular version is what I installed at the beginning. I installed
the beta version only after failing to get the integration working.

I have recently installed SparkyLinux, based on Debian Stable, and it
came with LibreOffice 7.4.7.2 installed without choice in the default.
The default, however, did not install Zotero, which I absolutely must
have. The distribution's repositories have Zotero 6.0.27, so I
installed it, and later I replaced it with Beta 7.0.0.42. When I launch
Writer I find the Zotero toolbar in View > Toolbars, and it looks
normal, but when I click on it to enter a citation nothing happens; no
error messages, nada. There is also a button for Add/Edit Bibliography,
but it also does nothing.

The installation added a launch entry for Zotero, which brought up my
hundreds of documents, so I guess I haven't lost anything yet. But it
would be really nice if I could use it.

The only literature I can find says that installing Zotero
automatically links it to installed word processors. In my case I must
characterize that as wishful thinking.

Some have said that you must have Java installed. OpenJDK came with
the operating system, and LO finds it, with the 'Use' button checked in
the Advanced window. However, below that is a little place which is
supposed to list the provider of the Java, and it is blank.
Furthermore,

if I un-check the 'Use' button, a few minutes later it becomes checked
again, all by itself. Weirdness abounds.

I have Zotero.oxt from a previous LO, so I added it in Tools >
Extensions, but it didn't make any difference. And 'Add Extensions'
produced an Unofficial Zotero add-in, which I also installed, also
without accomplishing anything. The Add Extensions option also offered
the official extension from Zotero, but it doesn't actually download an
.oxt file. I'm not sure what it did, but whatever it did resulted in no
change.

I need my Zotero! Can anyone offer suggestions?

In message from "Mikhail Kuzminsky" (Wed, 27 Sep 2023

In LibreOffice writer:

To create a list of references,  it was used not the bibliography
mechanism, but cross-references to numbered paragraphs in the list of
references.
I have found that, for unknown reasons, a number of the cross
reference numbers in this list are set to font size 10 instead of the
required 12. My various attempts to change this size do not work.
How can I increase the font size in reference numbers in the
bibliography?

Attached to the mail is a printscreen of a piece of the bibliography
with different font sizes. Numbers [345]-[349] have a font size of
10,

unlike other numbers. Cross-reference numbers inserted in the text
itself, as well as the entire text, are in font size 12.

Attempts that didn't work:

1) Left-click on any of the numbers, highlighting the entire field of
numbers - and change the size from 10 to 12
2) When deleting the text of a paragraph in the reference list, the
cross reference number returns to font size 12, but inserting/typing
any character in the area of that paragraph returns the reference
number size to 10.

The old version of LibreOffice 5.3.6.1 is used (rpm packages in
CentOS

7). So a large number of hotkeys, unfortunately, do not work.
But I guess my question has nothing to do with CentOS at all.

PS. I don't work professionally with LibreOffice.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Assembling a Master Document.

2023-09-28 Thread Wiebe van der Worp
Now write something in that blank doc that is text. Then you should
modify that text style to correspond with what you're using in your
sub-docs so that when they're imported, they automatically use the
correct style.

It is still odd we can't change templates from the interface. Template
usage is one of the LibreOffice blessings.

To overcome this, I created a script. It may be of use in cases with
master documents and large amounts of slave documents.
