[libreoffice-users] LO 4 documentation

2013-02-11 Thread Caesar
Does anyone know when the documentation at

http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/

is scheduled to be updated to v4.x?

The LO v4.x templates creation and handling seems to have changed
quite a bit from v3.x. Note: I am using the Windows portable version
of LO 4 so the I don't have access to the installed version of the LO
4 documentation.

Can someone tell me if the Windows installed documentation has been
updated?

Thanks.

You can get completed chapters in advance from
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications

Errr, that page also has old archived versions. Normally the guides
wouldn't have come out until around the 4.0.4 so to see the Getting Started
Guide is almost complete already is quite amazing!
 Regards from
 Tom :)

There is a way to get them quicker. You could join the docs team and
help complete the chapters that you are interested in. That way, you
know that they will come out quicker and the chapters that you want
completed are the ones that you care about. I don't think you will hear
anyone complaining about you wanting to work only on the chapters that
you want to work on.

Join up and help! Who knows, you may have so much fun that you will want
to help finish another chapter that some other user hopes to have come
out soon too! :-)

Cheers,

Marc

Thank you Marc for the invitation, but I just started using LO 3.6.4 a
few months ago, and LO 4.0.0 a week or so ago, so I really don't know
much about how it works. I'm definitely at the start of the learning
curve. I can't imagine I would be of much help, except by making
donations, which I have already done a couple of times.

Until I learn more, I believe that is how I can be most helpful.

[libreoffice-users] LO 4 portable problem starting

2013-02-09 Thread Caesar
For those who have installed LibreOffice v4 portable
http://portableapps.com/apps/office/libreoffice_portable

and find that when trying to start it, nothing at all happens; the
problem is very likely missing .dll files for the Microsoft Visual C++
2010 such as MSVCP100.dll and MSVCR100.dll

To correct this problem, install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010
Redistributable Package which can be obtained at
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=

That solved the problem for me.

Thanks Dan. I found History Manager and I also found History Master

Not that I know of. But there is something of a workaround:
o Click the down-arrow at the right end of the Standard toolbar.
o Click Visible Buttons | Load URL.

The new toolbar element creates a potentially longer list of recent
documents. You will have to set this up separately for Writer, Calc,
and so on.

Well, that's very interesting! I certainly never would have thought

Hi, although it colud be possible, the installation program registers on
the registry the same associations. If you have encountered crashes with
Libreoffice 3.5.2.2 try using version 3.4.6.
I prefer using Libreoffice because it is more efficient and it has a lot

You can probably avoid any such conflicts by using a portable

Perhaps you misunderstood what I meant.

What I meant was it feels mean to say that someone values a person's
contributions so little that they have an automatic deletion filter on
all of their contributions. Especially when it is someone that produces
so much good for the LO community (say in the area of free documentation).

If a poster insists that he be able to post in a manner that I find
confusing and offensive, then I'm not interested in reading anything

I find it very effective in making this mailing list readable.

True. However it´s not a solution for the main problem. The main
problem is, that people who do not follow the suggested posting
rules, destroy the value of the archive of this mailing list, which
is intended to be a growing knowlegde base.

Stefan

That is very true Stefan. The question then becomes: how do we handle
people who do not follow the suggested posting rules, and thus
destroy the value of the archive of this mailing list.

There are only two options available: 1) individuals can kill-file
offenders, thus leaving them to correspond only with fellow top

data.

Excellent points.

The whole 1980s migration from central computers w/dumb terminals to
PCs was motivated in large part by the desire to spread the computing
load and sever the umbilical cord/chain that central mainframe
computers required. In most rural areas of the U.S. today, dial-up
modem is as good as it gets, and that won't facilitate the cloud.

I was part of the movement. I even saw PCs used as dumb terminals for a

upload/download the files to the central systems like we do with FTP
clients and the web.

Yes indeed. I too ran from the tyrany of the mainframe as soon as I
was able. I have no desire to ever go back to giving a central site
custody of anything of mine that is important.

And I still have an old Kermit manual around here somewhere :-)

So, if you want to use cloud computing and file storage, you better
remain in the cities. In the more rural areas where people like to live

Quite so.
