[libreoffice-users] Writer, forms, and content controls

2011-10-25 Thread Joe Nierenberg
I would like to use LibreOffice Writer to create forms that would have
the following features:

1.  Some input fields where things like names can be entered;

2. Some fields where the entered information (like names) will be
automatically reproduced, i.e., so no need to enter more than once;

3. Some drop-down boxes, where things like appropriate pronouns can be
selected;

4. Some fields where the selected options (like pronouns) will be
automatically reproduced; and

5. Some areas with optional text choices, allowing the user to select
one set or another.

There would be no external database.

I've looked at the online form content control material in the
documentation, but I can't tame it to do what I want. Can someone shed
some light on how to do this, or where I could look for answers?

TIA.

[libreoffice-users] Find Text and related arrows do not work

2011-09-06 Thread Joe Nierenberg

[LO 3.4.3, build 302, under WinXP SP3]

Would someone with LO 3.4.3 and Windows please try to reproduce the
following?

1. The downloaded build includes a button on the top toolbar with the
text Find Text. It appears to have no functionality. Not only does
it do nothing on its own, but it also does nothing even after entering
text with the Find Replace dialog (either through the menu or by
adding the FR icon).

2. The problem could be even worse than non-functionality. It appears
that the toolbar button is stuck on one word and will not allow it to be
changed. (I assume this means that, at one point, it allowed a value to
be entered) Even when a user enters a different value in the FR
dialog, if the user then clicks either the Find Text button or one of
the two arrows next to it, the program looks for the embedded/stuck word
and not the one it should be looking for.

3. The problem described in the previous paragraph means that, in a
multi-page document, when one clicks Find All in the Find a Replace
dialog box, there is no way to move to the next occurrence, because the
arrows are looking for a different value.

[libreoffice-users] INCLUDETEXT

2011-03-28 Thread Joe Nierenberg
I would like to include text from a closed file into the open file.
However, rather than have all of the text there, reproduced in the open
file, I want only the field name. (The reason is that it is conditional
text, that might not always be included.) According to my searches,
there is no LO Writer equivalent to MS Word's INCLUDETEXT field; there
is only the menu command to insert a file, which gives the entire text.
 Ideas?

[libreoffice-users] Field of increasing ordinal numbers?

2011-03-09 Thread Joe Nierenberg
It does not seem like the field options include a way to add FIRST,
SECOND, THIRD, etc., as fields that will auto-update if they're moved
around. The available fields all seem to be cardinal numbers, with no
ordinal number options. Is that correct? Is there a way with LO to do
what I'm trying to accomplish?

[libreoffice-users] SUM icon in Calc 3.3.1

2011-03-02 Thread Joe Nierenberg
There does not appear to be a SUM icon in Calc ver. 3.3.1 under Windows
XP. It's noted in the Help file; it's a basic function; but I cannot
find it anywhere, either in the menu trees or on the standard toolbar or
on the customization that is possible to the toolbars. It should be a
large blue upper case sigma. (It's the icon I'm concerned about, not
the SUM function in the formula field.)

Is it there and I'm just not seeing it??

[libreoffice-users] Two coordinated sets of sequential numbers

2011-02-17 Thread Joe Nierenberg
Hello. I regularly need to create documents that have numbering schemes
like this:

Request 1. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet,

Response 1. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet,

Request 2. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet,

Response 2. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet,

Etc. Occasionally, the paragraphs will have subparagraphs (a, b, c, etc.).

I have tried various approaches, but cannot find a way to create numbered
paragraph styles in LO to meet this need. Can anyone suggest ways to do
this?

Thank you.
