OK, then, lets start with the simplest way (easy as 1-2-3, literally):

(1) Forget the label template.

Good. I got myself so wrapped in using the Avery stock I didn't think
it through.

(2) Treat the card sheet in landscape mode (which puts the cards in
portrait mode) by defining your page (either Format the Default Page
Style or define a new "Index Cards" style from the Default Page Style):
With either the new or Default Page Style, go to the Page tab and define
it with Format=Letter, Orientation=Landscape, with margins L=1", R=1",
T=1.75", B=1.75", then OK.

(3a) Now define a 3-column/1-row table (which will automatically be set
to three 3"-wide columns; if not, you can make it so).

(3b) Set the table's row height (Table>Size>Row height) to 5".
(3c) Set the table's borders (Table>Properties>Borders tab) as you like.
I'd suggest no lines, but you may want non-zero padding.

Now you're ready to go -- and because the page/sheet is in Landscape
mode, you have all three cards on your computer screen, at maximum size
for maximum convenience.

Perfect.

Thanks,
Rod

Variation on this approach: You could substitute three 3"x5" frames for
the three-column table; same idea, just slightly more work.

Hope that helps,
John

Trying to understand what you want to do that, I looked at Avery 5388,
which has 3 3"x5" cards (labels, for form purposes) arranged (landscape)
vertically on what appears to be an 8.5"x11" (portrait) card sheet, with
unused borders on that sheet of 1" top/bottom, 1.75" left/right. Correct?

And you want to treat each card/label as if it were in portrait
orientation for text purposes?

Yes. This is what I want to do.

If so, there are different ways to
accomplish that, but before going further please confirm or correct that
understanding (no point giving answers to the wrong question).

[libreoffice-users] Rotating labels to landscape

2023-02-11 Thread Roderick Anderson

Good morning all.

I have a need to create some 3X5 index cards with the content oriented
along the 3" axis.

I'm having no joy rotation the label form (Avery 5388) to landscape.

Impossible mission? Should I create a custom label?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: LO not finding my scanner

2021-02-15 Thread Roderick Anderson

Interesting. I never noticed the scan option before.

So I gave it a try.

Linux Mint 19.3, LO 6.0.73, Xsane 0.999 (graphic front end to SANE),
Brother MFC-L3750 CDW.

Slow-ish but let me scan.

Device (Brother) doesn't support a preview but LO faked it. Set to 300
DPI, is scanned and inserted the image.

2 years later and this is still an issue not only on Linux but also on
Windows XP up to Windows 10, People on the net in various forums have
reported that while scanning does not work in LibreOffice they had it
working in OpenOffice(I have not yet tested that).

I have had this issue since Libreoffice 6.2.2.8 which came installed with my
Peach OSI TW 16.04 LTS(Xubuntu) 64bit, i also tried 6.3.

I just removed all instances of LibeOffice today and installed the snap
version of 7.0.4.2 to see if the problem were solved, but no it's still
there. In Writer, I go to insert-Media-Scan-select source and nothing
happens.

I managed to get SANE working to see my scanner and it now works flawless. I
tried some other Office suites but they didn't have scanning options, so
back to LibreOffice in hope that you guys here can figure out a solution.

Printer/All-in-one set up as network printer in my home, Canon Pixma MG3070S
work with their own tool Scangearmp2 and now SANE. I do not run it, and
don't want to, as USB scanner, only network. I would like to be able to
scan directly in to LibreOffice Writer and other apps of the office pack.

There must be a setting or script somewhere, were this option has been
disabled or written wrong, ex. an # where its not suppose to be.

Hope you will look into this and come up with a solution. Thank you in
advance.

Jan
Solution to the SANE problem, where it can find USB Scanner but not network
Scanner:

1. Open Terminal/Console Shell emulator window

2. Download Canon MG3000 Scanner Linux Drivers

Here https://ph.canon/support/PIXMA%20MG3070__%20MG3070S__%20MG3077/model

Download Canon MG3070S Scanner Driver for Ubuntu Linux 32/64-bit.

3. Also grab Canon ScanGear MP .deb Driver.

4. Confirm to Open with Archive Manager on Browser
Or after Double-Click/Right-Click on Scanner Driver
(When Downloaded with Firefox may be located in /tmp/mozilla* Dir)

5. Extract into the /tmp directory

6. Now to Install Canon Scanner Driver

First, access the Target directory with:

cd /tmp/scangear*

And then Run the Installation Script:

sudo ./install.sh

Note: During installation You may be Asked to Connect & Power On your
Scanner…

Now if in the Output you find trace of some Missing Package then try first
to execute:

cd /tmp/scangear*/packages

sudo su -c "apt-get install gdebi"

sudo su -c "gdebi ./*.deb"

When finished, restart the laptop

7. Head over to
https://launchpad.net/~thierry-f/+archive/ubuntu/fork-michael-gruz and
install the ppa as described:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:thierry-f/fork-michael-gruz
sudo apt-get update

8. Go to /etc/sane.d/ and edit dll.conf as root. Under canon, add
canon_pixma and save the document and close the editor.

9. Open terminal and type sudo sane-find-scanner – it will not find the
scanner

9. In terminal type scanimage -L – scanner is now found and all SANE apps
work. LibreOffice do not work.

Hope this helps someone out there :)

Re: [libreoffice-users] Writer display problem in LO 6.4.6.2 on Linux Mint 20/Cinnamon V4.6.7

I must have done something, for this suddenly started happening.

I can display a page either full screen, or minimize it completely, so it
disappears off the page entirely. In other words, Minimize is now not a
partial screen, but it is in effect parking it off screen, where I can
maximize it again from the Writer icon on the task bar.

Ergo what is lost is the ability to reduce the window to a partial screen -
if I try, it becomes a postage stamp and my only option is to maximize it
to full screen again.

Minimize it to the postage stamp size then grab a corner and drag it up
in size. Might have to grab a 'corner' multiple times.

This happens to me every so often and I can't figure out what causes it.

[libreoffice-users] Labels with background image

2020-08-27 Thread Roderick Anderson

Good day to all.

I've exhausted my search foo. Everything I find gets close to what I
need but doesn't quite make it.

I'm trying to make membership cards for a HAM radio club.

They need to be business card size (3.5in. X 2.0in.) with a background
image and three fields. Call sign, Name, and expiration date.

The part I'm not figuring out is how to add the background image.

If this makes any sense could someone suggest the correct search terms
or point me in the right direction?

I have a hard copy of Bruce Byfield's "Designing with LibreOffice"
coming and the PDF version on the desktop but haven't found the info I
think I need yet.

TIA,
Rod - K7ZBE

Any other suggestions on getting bar codes into LO documents?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Gmail Saving in Libre Writer

2019-07-21 Thread Roderick Anderson
Sounds interesting. I can't really help as I use Thunderbird as a front
end and a very robust folder set up. I see messages from 2015. I'll
look at using the web client later today to see if it is a TB feature or
a gmail quirk.

But I am very interested in how you are betting the messages into LO
Writer? I am a board member for a not-for-profit and would like to have
off line documents of various discussion threads.

Has anyone found an easy way to search gmails older than just one year.

There's the search box drop down menu where you can search by terms and All

There's a box next to that box where you can play with dates going back 10+
years but that one year box next to it limits the search.

Can you pls share how you've been able (recently) to search all your mails
(or at least all your Sent mails) for the past 10+ years in your gmail
account?

Thank you.
