Somewhere on GitHub is a project that converts MarkDown to/from ODT. I
did ask the developer if they would be willing to modify it, so that it
could be used as a LibO extension. They declined, on the grounds that
that feature would be outside the scope of their project.

There used to be an extension that validated Markdown, when creating
documents using that presentation markup language. It did _not_ convert
MarkDown to/from ODT. I say used to be, because it calls something
within LibO that appears to no longer exists.

Thanks.
I am/was using TDF provided binaries.

However, a distro-damaged version of LibO was also installed, as a
dependency of something --- probably okular. This distro-damaged version
managed, somehow, to affect parts of LibO configuration.

By removing everything related to Libreoffice, and deleting every folder

I think Ancient CJKV work fine, provided you have the appropriate font, _and_

I'd suggest filing an rfe for all ancient languages you use, if there is an ISO

You'll need complete locale data for each language.
I'm assuming that there is an ISO-360 code for the language.

fixed back around OOo 2.0 - 2.2 My laptop is acting up, otherwise I'd test it

(The fix is to reinstall Linux. Which i hope I'll be able to do by the end of

The developer's documentation for OOo 1.x describes how it is supposed to work.
There are some developer specifications for 2.x that describes the changes.
I have no idea where to find either set, though.

My other question is what fonts are listed in the default style?

As far as fallback fonts go, the specifications are _not_ implemented.
That part of LibO needs a complete rewrite, to perform to specification.
There are a couple of known bugs there, that could be your problem.

It is not uncommon for features to enhance standards compliance.

Whether or not a new feature hinders or enhances quality control, depend upon
how well the affected source code is documented and how structured the program
as a whole is.

One of the major obstacles that Microsoft ran into, and why it could not adhere
to EEU court rulings, was that its source code was not documented, and the
overall program was completely unstructured. Both Apache OpenOffice and
LibreOffice are refactoring the OOo codebase, so that quality control related
to standards compliance is enhanced.

LibO 3.4.5 and lower can write files whose password protection relies on
Blowfish;
LibO 3.4.4 and lower can read files whose password protection relies on
Blowfish;
LibO 3.4.5 and higher can read files whose password protection relies on
AES-256;
LibO 3.5.0 and higher can write files whose password protection relies
on AES-256;

The Crypto++ library contains routines for encrypting/decrypting
blowfish, AES-256, and other algorithms for ciphers.

In 2001, four or five firms, worldwide, offered commercial OOo password
recovery services.

One of the firms frankly admitted that they used brute force. The setup
fee paid for the computers used for the "attack". The monthly fee
covered the utility bills that the "attack" generated. FWIW, this firm
now appears to be out of business.

http://openoffice-password-recovery.en.softonic.com/ offers a tool that
they claim:
« OpenOffice Password Recovery is a software program to restore any
forgotten passwords from any document created with Open Office. This
tool supports all Open Office applications including OpenOffice Calc,
Impress, Math, Writer and Draw.
OpenOffice Password Recovery also features protection removal so you can
get rid of the read-only restriction used for protection with some files. »

http://openoffice-password-recovery.sharewarejunction.com/ offers an OOo
extension for US$79.00 that allegedly recovers passwords from OOo
documents.

Those tools might work, but I have my doubts. Whilst there are known
attacks that result in determining the password faster than using brute
force, those attacks require at least a century to complete, using
Beowulf Clusters that are currently commercially available.

Create a page style for the left hand page, and a different page style
for the right hand page.

To get the first word defined on the page into the header, requires:
* The defined word to be the only word on the line;
* The defined word is on the first line of the new page;

If it is acceptable to have the last defined word of the previous page
being in the header, then the only requirement is that the defined word
be the only word on the line.

I don't know how to get the last defined word into the header of the

If you want to use a running heading for the defined word, you can do
so, but at the expense of having an apparently blank line between each word.

It is theoretically possible to write a macro to place the first defined

With documents of under 500 pages, less than 100 images, and less than

With documents of 5,000+ pages, several thousand images, several

Note: The biggest issue/bug with 5,000+ page documents, is that LibO
