Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice suite
Hi Laura, Collabora, a LibreOffice contributor, has a LibreOffice based suite for Android. If you use the PlayStore it is available there (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.collabora.libreoffice=en_US ) --with some less than completely positive comments. Collabora is/was available via f-droid, but it requires some doing from what I have seen. A quick search will help with that. Lacking that knowledge, the first thing that occurs to me is to try with a new profile. Your profile remains even you re-install or update and that is where your settings are saved. You can test this by going to Help and choosing Start in Test Mode. That will ignore your profile and, if it works, you can find your LibreOffice profile folder and rename it. When you restart you will have to redo your settings, although you can very likely copy most of the components from your old folder. Wish I could be more specific, but without knowing the OS or the latest LO you're using, its a bit harder. That said you described the printers as "installed," meaning they are visible/listed in whatever printer settings are available in Ubuntu or directly via CUPS in your browser (usually https://localhost:631, user "root" and root password to access). If you see them in CUPS/Ubuntu settings, try restarting in test mode (don't recall the English at the moment, but available from the Help menu), and/or shutting down LO and renaming your profile directory "~/.config/libreoffice" (e.g., add ".bad" or ".old" or whatever you like). When you restart, LO will create a new directory. If LO then sees the printers, it means that your old profile was corrupted for some reason. (It happens from time to time.) If the profile is the problem, you will need to go through all your settings again. You may be able to copy some elements (e.g., templates) from the old directory to the new to save a little work. If the profile is not the problem, you can erase the new directory and change the old directory name back to "libreoffice." -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ Privacy Policy: https://www.documentfoundation.org/privacy

The Redhad Package Manager (rpm) simply installs from an accessible file as opposed to downloading and installing from an external repository. The duplication of LO results because the source is not a Fedora repo. I am a Mageia user unfamiliar with dnf (even though it is available as an alternative package manager), but there is likely a way to add the LO repo to your system so that it will automatically update from there (if that is what you want). As far as I know, there's nothing > about it in LO. > - Robert > This does not affect just adjectives, but some nouns -- and evolves over time, such that the phrasal verb "follow up" is hyphenated as adjective ("follow-up report"), but appears either hyphenated or as one word (followup) when used as a noun. The trend in the latter case, AFAIK, is to make the noun a single word -- or maybe it is just my personal taste. Even the LanguageTool plugin provides only limited help. Testing with: "I would like you to followup on this issue. The follow-up should be complete and presented in the form of a follow up report." LanguageTool highlighted the hyphenated form and reported: "When ‘follow-up’ is used as a noun or modifier, it needs to be hyphenated." It also reported the instance without a hyphen noting: "‘follow up’ seems to be a compound adjective before a noun. Use a hyphen: «follow- up»." However, it did not flag the single-word form used as a verb. The other positive in this example is that LanguageTool notes that "follow up" should be hyphenated before a noun. Predicate adjectives are excluded: "He is a well-known author." "The author is well known." The problem in implementing this is we can expect not only temporal, positional and personal variation, but dialectical as well with, in my experience, en_GB being more conservative (although the case cited above with LanguageTool was for en_US). All of this makes the implementation of such help a minefield (something I am sure was once a "mine field")! In short, using LanguageTool or even adding examples to a dictionary is not foolproof and you must be prepared to reject some "corrections" and accept that some errors will be missed. [libreoffice-users] Alternative to a new profile?
Lately it seems that LO updates more frequently require redoing one's profile. My latest example in Calc: open a .csv file, mark the date columns as date (DMY) and import. The resulting dates are treated as text or numbers and, of course, cannot be changed after the fact. However, doing the same in safe mode does work correctly. Although all extensions are for Writer, I tried disabling them all and restarting, but the import still does not work properly. I had a problem with LO Writer 7.1.2.1 (Mageia Linux) crashing when opening a document and discovered that it was a problem with a not-up- to-date Language Tool extension. Have you reported this to Neon? This sounds like a packaging or possible Plasma problem (having seen that Plasma just issued a minor update). [snip] Double-clicking on the document assumes that it is readily visible -- perhaps on a sloppy, crowded desktop? -- otherwise there are additional steps. Opening LO certainly works as well as opening from within LO Writer and is a bad recommendation. However, as I think about alternating between creating and editing documents in Writer (my most heavily used component of LO), going directly to Writer seems the most natural way or working (at least for me). Furthermore, if you think that this should be the MO for using LO, perhaps there should be no links to open LO components directly from menus. > > > I'm most concerned with the persistence of the empty new document > > window once something else is opened - that's not right. > > If I was designing software and you'd chosen to open such a blank > document, I might want to let you keep it. > That may be, but it seems that the poster I have other ways of working that make sense to us. Furthermore, why would I open a blank document first if I were going to be working with both an existing and blank document simultaneously? Opening the existing document first seems more logical to me. However, all of that is beside the point because we are talking about a change in what has been the default behavior and, if my test in safe mode is any measure, is still the default behavior. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ Privacy Policy: https://www.documentfoundation.org/privacy

[libreoffice-users] Writing to Android device
Until relatively recently I have been able to write and export directly to my Android device, which allows me to read things in transit or avoid lugging my laptop. However, somewhere along the line, I believe in the LO-6.2 series, this has become impossible. Attempting to write an odf file or export to pdf results in a "File does not exist" error, followed by a "general input/output error". The problem occurs in Mageia 7, E22 DE, currently with LO-6.2.3.2. Is there perhaps a setting to cure this ill? [libreoffice-users] LO 6.2.x save dialog on Linux
Does anyone on the list, whether from the DF or a user, know if there are plans to improve the save dialog? As it stands, at least on Linux, separate partitions and connected drives are no longer shown in the dialogue. Saving to such a partition or drive means navigating there through the root directory. I know that it is possible to save the location, but this does not help if you are saving to a new or infrequently used external device. If needed I will file a request for enhancement because the one step forward for cloud users brought several steps back for connected drives. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ Privacy Policy: https://www.documentfoundation.org/privacy
