Re: [libreoffice-users] Printing specific pages in 4.1 writer

2013-08-02 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
We just got an Oki MB471

Dead easy to set-up to print and does all the duplexing and everything just
fine.  Oki had a ppd driver on their website.

There is no driver for faxing and i haven't tried scanning yet either.

I thought the whole thing was going to be a total nightmare in Gnu&Linux
because our Oki C810 still doesn't work.  There was a ppd for the C610 but that
doesn't work for the 810.  The main problem for me is that there seems to be
hundreds of drivers that are listed through OpenPrinting and places
specifically for the C810 but none of the ones i have tried so far work at all.

So, i was quite surprised that it took about 10mins per machine to sort the
MB471 in Gnu&Linux but about an hour to go through the Windows installer.

Hewlett Packard just seem to be easy whichever system you are using.  They seem
to last longer and even appear in 2nd hand listings which hardly any other
printers do.  Ages ago i asked this list for advice about the best printer to
choose and got some good advice which my boss ignored.

Regards from
Tom :)

Re: [libreoffice-users] Printing specific pages in 4.1 writer

2013-08-01 Thread Kracked_P_P---webmaster

To get my Cannon printer to work with Linux, I first was told that they
do not support Linux. Well, the UK Cannon site had the drivers and
supported Linux even though the USA site does not.

I had to download 4 files. Two for the printing and two for the scanning.

I use a HP Officejet 7000 wide format printer - up to 13 by 19 inches.
The next model had duplexing, but mine was on sale for half off. It
took some "tweaking" of the HP Linux drivers to get Ubuntu 12.04LTS to
allow for paper larger than letter or legal size. I mostly run tabloid
size paper [11 by 17 inch sheets] but I have photos and "standard" paper
for the 13x19 and 11x17. I sometimes print the 8.5 x 14 inch legal
paper in it, since it is easier to "insert" it in the wide format
printer than it is for my other color printer.

Mint 13 and 14 would not "see" the Cannon printer on the network, but
worked fine using the USB port.

I have been using Ubuntu since 9.xx days and LO since the first release
[not RC] that came out. Been using using Ubuntu as my main desktop OS
since Feb 2010, and still have a lot to learn about what I can and
cannot do with it. I never could get WINE to work.

As for Printers and LO, I find that I have the least troubles with an HP
printer and its drivers when dealing with printing all the different
options within LO. It was my HP Laserjet 2300dn printer that had no
problems with duplexing within LO without that "pesky" printer dialog
check box, but my Epson Artisan 810 inkjet printer needed the checked
box to duplex. I have kept it checked and decided not to try any other
options since my Cannon MG6220 inkjet [replacement for the worn out
Epson] worked fine in the duplexing as I had the options setup.

Now there are some things that these printers can do, according to the
Windows 7 drivers that are not listed in the Ubuntu/Debian drivers, but
I hardly remember what they are and will use my Win7 laptop [dual
booting with Ubuntu] to print if needed.

I had a set of screen shots on a Wiki page that showed the check box
option in Linux, to help with those people who are having troubles with
Linux printers and LO duplexing. But, the last time I looked, someone
deleted that page. It seemed that someone did not want the users to
know that there might be an issue with duplex printing with Linux
versions of LO, and the posting of the needed instructions to the needed
check box to help fix that issue with some printers.

needed to be checked, while other did not, tended to make the issue a
little worse to figure out.

I do not use Mint due to printer issues. The biggest one wasthatit
would not recognizeor even find it on my network my main network
color printer that Ubuntu has not problems finding/using. But it
would see it via a USB cable. I had other printer/driver issues for
it to print "properly" on the other printers on my network.

You are running 32-bit Mint 14? Mate or Cinnamon desktop?
You removed the previously installed version of LO, correct?

Did you have any problems with 4.0.4 printing page selections?

In Tools / Options / LibreOffice / General
have you checked "Use LibreOffice dialogs" in the "Print dialogs"
section?

Check it if not. If already checked [which I used for Ubuntu
12.04LTS] then un-check it. See if that changes anything. This
option does not show up with the Windows users, so they would not
know this. I had to check it to get one of my printers to duplex
properly. I am told others need to have it unchecked for their
printer[s].

Re: [libreoffice-users] Printing specific pages in 4.1 writer

2013-07-30 Thread Kracked_P_P---webmaster

You do remember all those months ago having the duplexing problems and
then finding out that the "General" dialog had different things listed
in the Windows version than it had in the Debian-based version, right?
That "print dialog" was one of those differences. That was what I
needed to be checked to get duplexing to work for my old Epson Artisan
printer. The Windows version did not need any help, but the Ubuntu
10.04LTS / 12.04LTS did.

Last time I checked, Windows version did not have the --- "Use
LibreOffice dialogs" in the "Print dialogs" section.

I do not think the Print dialogs would be, or should be, listed under
open/save dialogs section. That would not make sense. Are you saying
the "print dialogs" check box is actually listed in that section of the
"General" dialog box?

Well, I have not installed 4.1 yet, but the "Print dialogs" option was
shown on the DEB 64-bit version [Ubuntu 12.04 and 13.04 installed] and
not on the Windows version [Win7 professional and home premium installed]

When I was having all my issues with my printer[s] not duplexing
correctly, it seemed that most of the people who tried to help were
Windows users. None of the even suggested the "print dialog"
check/uncheck option. After a few weeks, I just started experimenting
and found that checking the "print dialogs" option would make the Epson
Artisan 810 printer duplex correctly. The HP Laserjet 2300dn duplexing
worked either way. Now that I have a Cannon MG6220 to replace the
Epson, I have not unchecked that box to see if the duplexing still worked.

Hi there

Thanks for your reply.

Yes - all printing worked fine with Mint 14 Mate using pre-4.1 versions
of LibO.

I am unable to reproduce the error - but it required me to shut LibO
down and restart it for me to successfully print.

Perhaps it was just a one-off?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Printing specific pages in 4.1 writer

2013-07-30 Thread Andrew Brown

Hi Kracked_P_P

One correction, your last statement, the option to check "Use
LiberOffice dialogues" is available for Windows users under the same
"Tools / Options / LibreOffice / General". In this part of the "General"
settings it's under the heading "Open/Save dialogues".

Regards

Hello list

On a Debian like system (Mint 14), my newly installed 32-bit
LibO-4.1. is creating a bit of problems for me. This latest issue is
trying to print specific pages within a Writer document: the print
dialog box does not allow editing the specific pages text box. In
order to make this work - i.e. to select the pages I wanted - I
closed LibO4.1. and re-opened it, then it worked.

Anybody else experienced this?

I've had two relatively minor issues with Writer LibO-4.1
(password-related and the page selection for printing mentioned here)
which don't really inspire confidence as these are features that have
been preserved since the OOo days ... so not at all sure why they
don't work as expected with the 4.1 release.

Anyway, will continue to test 4.1 for a while, but am inclined to
roll back to 4.0.4 for doing work at this point.

Cheers

I do not use Mint due to printer issues. The biggest one wasthatit
would not recognizeor even find it on my network my main network color
printer that Ubuntu has not problems finding/using. But it would see
it via a USB cable. I had other printer/driver issues for it to print
"properly" on the other printers on my network.

This
option does not show up with the Windows users, so they would not know
this. I had to check it to get one of my printers to duplex
properly. I am told others need to have it unchecked for their
printer[s].
